Hey all,

My name's Mark, 26, living in Sydney Australia. Up until 2 days ago I had always been shaving with cartridge razors. The whole Gillette lineup, every Schick, tried them all, but no razor seemed much better than any other.

Being fed up with usually getting a pretty damn average shave, I started looking at alternatives, and came across DE shaving... sounded intriguing, so I did some research, and just the other day ended up with the following:

Merkur Classic razor
Assorted blades including Merkur, Feather and Derby
Taylor of Old Bond Street Mr Taylor shaving cream
Proraso Pre-Shaving cream
Men-u boar shaving brush

Some Speik shaving cream and an alum block are on it's way as well..

2 days ago was my first DE shave, and started off with a Derby blade. Routine for now is, run hot water in ceramic bowl, place brush and razor in the bowl with hot water, shower, scrub face to get rid of oils, apply Proraso pre-shaving cream, get out of shower, drain bowl of hot water (except a little to use for lather), shake brush dry, create later, lather up and SHAVE !

First shave was surprisingly good, almost on par with my normal Mach 3 shave, but at the expense of quite a bit of razor burn and a couple weeps. Today's shave was better and no weeps, helped I think by the fact my lather was better than yesterday's. BBS on the chin, and most of my face quite smooth. I am having problems getting a decent shave on the upper lip area though, not sure why, hopefully it comes good with practise...

Anyway, greetings to all Badger and Bladers, I look forward to being a part of the forums :)

Mark

Welcome... For the upper lip, Mantic's videos really help when he was explaining how to shave with the grain, against and across. I was having the same problem so I went back to basics. Good Luck. Luc
