I started of this year really digging the older SE Lather catchers so I've been building up my collection of them.
This past week I picked up these. A 1902 Yankee razor (Thin Handle), 1903 Yankee Blade Tin and a 1904 Star razor.

I just scored a sweet little gillette Tuck-a-way from Ebay. It looks a little rough but hopefully it will shine up nicely. Has a name engraved on the case. I thought that was pretty neat. I'll post pics when it arrives and I polish it up.

Sigh... my regular digital camera is on the fritz and the cell phone camera is just crap.

Anyways, I got a 1949 Super Speed off of ebay, and it arrived this afternoon. I got a tip to check out a second-hand shop near my house. He had a clutch of three-piece Gillettes, a couple of GEMs, and a Rolls Razor. I came away with a 1950 Super Speed that came with a Blue Blade dispenser with a few "fresh" blades in it, and a Gillete Thin blade still in it's wrapper. The 1950 is a little more worn than the 1949, but it's still in fine working order, and the case is in a little better shape.

If I even come close to scoring half of the stuff I'm bidding on through eBay, I'll have a huge post coming soon.

Also I have a red-tip Superspeed, Bostonian, and a boxed Windsor already on the way.

Apparently, I've turned into a razor whore. I blame you folks here for that. :smile:

Hit a flea market a couple of days ago and snagged a few of razors from a couple of vendors. Then I came across one vender who had about a dozen nice looking safety razors. She'd been collecting them for a bathroom display that never happened so she decided to unload them. These are all razors that I've been interested in aquiring so I was pretty excited to find them (w/o paying ebay prices too!). The total haul came to $65.00; I probably could've haggled some to get lower prices but the prices were already so low that I couldn't make myself do it.

Yes Sir, that is the one. There is currently one up that has a reserve and looks excellent. I put a bid in for $81 but didn't make the reserve. I just don't think i can go much higher.

I had my box of 100 Israeli Personnas delivered yesterday. The guy was selling them on ebay, but I asked how much the postage was to the UK, and it was almost as much as the blades themselves. He said that if I went to his website (http://www.encure.net/storepage/blades.htm), then the shipping was free. So I bought 100 for $25, free delivery to the UK. So about £20 for 100, or 20p per blade. Cant really complain about that. I'd post a picture, but it's just a plain white box, and I'm sure you can picture that in your heads :)

Gonna try my first shave with them this evening. Hope I don't slice my face off.

My Windsor and red-tip arrived today.

Here is a pic of the Windsor from the auction...

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/_HandyMan/windsorbay.jpg

...and what it looks like now:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/_HandyMan/Windsor.jpg

Alas there is a small crack at the base where handle meets ball. Not bad for $18. It was $20, but she knocked $2 off of shipping since we are in the same state.

The 1955 red-tip is immaculate. Zero paint-loss on the handle. Sorry about the pic but I had to take it in my room, and those CFL's make everything eerie-looking when taking pictures. It's sitting atop the Windsor case, and come with a spanking pack of 4 Star Blades. $28.

I noticed you were getting the SE razors lately Ray (probably because you already have most of the DEs :biggrin:).

How's the SE collection coming?

Edit Oh and...nice box for that one too. Amazing how people have taken care of things over the centuries.

Bagged it for $3 in an antique store. It was the only razor in the building that I could find. These things have gotten popular.

I think it has a touch of brassing under the head and it has one tiny plating chip on the TTO knob. Looks like it will clean up nicely.

Cool! I'll try windex and see how that works. Luckily I have only polished a few gold razors. The Tuckaway that I posted on the previous page got hit real hard with Fitz polish last night. Hopefully I didn't damage it but it looks pretty good.

Sometimes you can get away with polishing some of the older gold razors because they are plated a little thicker. I think Fitz is one of the milder polishes, but definitely don't polish that Aristocrat because the plating is thin.

Oh and BTW, can you tell what the box goes to? I have some thick handled and ball end techs that might fit it. The truth is, I have two other Aristocrats that are immaculant and i haven't used them. I bought the second one with the intent to use but when it came in, it was in nearly perfect shape like the first. I think either a Fat handle tech (probably gold) or a NEW with the common bar handle should go in there. It looks like it might be one of those cases that they used for more than one razor, but I am not positive.

First pic: C.O. Bigelow Shave Cream, L'Occitane CADE Balm, C.O. Bigelow Elixir Black Body Spray, Cologne, and Hair and Body wash (not sure if I will end up using the last 3 at all, I'm not much of a body spray kind of guy and the scent is so-so for me).

Second pic: From a box my grandfather found in his basement, and gratefully accepted by me. Let me know if any seem incorrect as I am still trying to date them (any help also appreciated!).
Top L to R
-Gem Micromatic
-Gillette Ball-end Tech (no date code)
Bottom L to R
-Absolutely no idea, but says Gillette on underside of head and is missing bottom portion.
-1977 Gillette Black-Handled Adjustable (code X1)
-1917 Gillette Single Ring (says Pat.Nov.15.04 on band, code under head says E138949)

Got my 1921 Big Fellow today. The top of the box looks better than Achim's but the bottom of the box wants to pull away. Don't worry, I won't glue it :tongue:

Before-and-after pics after the cleaning. And boy does it need it. Still had a blade inside and a ton of blades in the bank. :eek:

Ok, here are the pics of the 1921 Bigfellow before-and-after.

First look inside;

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/_HandyMan/bigfellowfirstmain.jpg

Yeah there is still a blade in there;

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/_HandyMan/BFbladein.jpg

This was in the blade holder;

The head is nasty;

First stab at cleaning and put back in the case;

Business-end looks better;

Underside looks decent;

My Gillette Psycho arrived today! I didn't know they were made in England. This one razor caught the interest of a friend and he may be popping up on the B&B in the near future.

Nice! I didn't know they were British either.

And welcome to your friend too, if he chooses to join :001_smile

I had a shave with one of those once.

It didn't go well...

Scored a 2nd quarter 1955 Blue tip, with a little pitting in the aluminum handle. $2.00

Also scored a Schick Krona, looks unused, also 2.00

Same place I got my '47 SS and the '62 Slim Adjustable for 2.00 each.
Unfortunately the only other razors there were out of my price range, and no more DE's

Was a Wilkinson Sword kit, with the 7 blades, strop, case, and whathaveyou just like Thirdeyes Safety Razor of the Week, for $75
Sundays blade had a dinged corner, but everyhting else was tip top shape, even the strop was soft, slightly oily, and cut/nick free.

That is actually a pick, for removing nut meats from the shell.
Comes in a set with a few more, and a nut cracker.

We mostly use them for crab at my parents house.

I've been interested in the non-traditional Old Spice mugs and steins. Recently got these off the bay. One is a traditional shaving mug, but the blue one (with a matching boar bristle brush and the heavy ceramic beer stein are somewhat less common.:001_smile

My score for this week from my trip today. I found two NOS Gillette NEW razors in the box.

The first one is perfect! The second one is a basket case! It has two big cracks in the handle and both ends of the handle are not attached.

Looks like one of those tools for eating crab. You usually buy the "set" which has the shell cracker (also used for cracking nut shells) and two of the picks. Looks like you have a single pick.

Very nice NOS score, it's a shame the second one is cracked but that is a common issue with these oldies....

Come to think of it, my wife has been calling me cracked for years...:blush:

There was a fella on one of these fourms whose friend had a box of 20 or 30 of these. All brand new, each with its own key. He had listed them on eBay (i think) but was offering them to forum members, either as a complete box, or individually. The box was the original prison issue. I'm sure if you search psycho, you'll find it.

Not sure I'll ever save with it. I mean it's just a tech. I have several so why not keep this one perfect! After all it was brand new in box! I just like what it was designed for. Prison guards or orderlies would carry the "key" so that inmates or mental patients couldn't remove the razor blade. Very cool.

There was a pair of these listed on "the bay" with one key, buy it now for $350.

It was on this forum. I was wrong, he only had 10 in the box. He was selling the lot, or $91.00/each brand new: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=68894&highlight=prison

The two that I have came from a retired Prison Guard when the shut down the old Allegheny Prison in PA. He sent me a picture of himself in uniform and you can see the key hanging from his belt.

How does the key work on these? What I mean is how does it secure the blade when you remove the key?

the key reaches up and tightens with a hex head. Kind of like reverse Alan wrench. Very cool razors.

I am glad I did not break down and get one but I am still upset that I did not break down and get one.
I am really curious to see exactly how they work with the key.

I just won this on Ebay for under $6. Description says the case is for an Aristocrat. I needed an Aristocrat case so that by itself was worth $6 to me.

Been a good but expensive week, this is an LR Harner custom straight 6/8" damascus in G10 titanium scales, the orange trim also molds inside as a third pin blade rest, the balance on this is perfect and is a great shaver.
