I don't wear much cologne at all, but when I do, it's Aramis. However, that's a heavy smell meant for the evenings. Any suggestions on a lighter one for the afternoons?

A very YMMV topic, but I like Chrome for an 'anytime' scent. It is a clean, 'blue' scent.

I'm a fellow Aramis devotee. Most of what I wear tends to be heavy, masculine, and spicy. However, I do have a couple of lighter scents that I like. It was so hot here in Southern California that these two were the only ones I wore all summer (day or night). I'm gradually switching back to Aramis and Boss No.1 (http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120241.html) (I think it's making a comeback!).
My two light favorites of the moment:
Kenneth Cole New York (http://www.basenotes.net/cgi-bin/fragpro.cgi?a14=26120905) -- I've been wearing this to work most days. Very soapy-clean smelling. Quite frankly, it smells like some Star Wars soap I had as a kid.
Burberry Weekend (http://www.basenotes.net/ID26121693.html) -- I played with a sample of this stuff for a while before I decided that I liked it. Moss, fruit, and honey.
Whenever shopping for/considering new fragrances, I always visit Basenotes.net (http://www.basenotes.net/).
Here's the stat's on Aramis (http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120123.html), by the way (if you haven't seen them before).

Speick EDC is a light, but not faint cologne. Clean, spicy scent....definitely not overpowering, but yet noticeable at the same time.
Any good bay rum scent should also serve you well as being "light"

T&H West Indian Limes is a nice light cologne that lasts on my person at least 6 hours. Citrus scents tend to be light in nature. You may want to look in this catagory.

Wow. That certainly beats the roughly 6 minutes it lasts on me. The only lime scent that seems to have any staying power whatsoever on me is the Taylor.

You must be thinking of Trumpers. On my person Trumpers lasts about 6 minutes. Taylors Victorian Limes last a good 8 hours on my person.

Acqua di Parma: light, Fresh, complex -good staying power. Good balm as well.
Trumpers limes lasts about 10 seconds on me, but I get a few hours from the Taylor. Nothing else comes close for me.

I actually rather like the Musgo Oak Moss #2 as a lighter scent. But that's just me....
Edit: I should clarify that I know nothing about scents....

Eau Savauge is a real classic men's scent by Christian Dior. It's light, with citrus top notes. It is so sublte most people pass it over but they are truly missing out.

Eau Sauvage = lemon pledge.
You had some good suggestions already. I'll add T&H 1805, Atkinsons English Lavender, and either of the Provence Sante' scents.

I've always enjoyed L'Eau D'Issey, however I find it is a bit more of a younger scent, or atleast that's how I perceive it.
I also enjoy Floris Santal, which I'd classify as light.

Musgo might be a good one, but beware that it has the half life of nuclear waste. I can still smell it in my laundry bucket a week later. So if you want to switch to an evening scent later on in the day it might not be a good pick.
I like Nancy Boy's Butch for a light scent, especially for warm weather or if I'll be working out. Once the initial citrus burst wears of it's pretty subtle.

I recommend Hermes Terre. It's a mix of cedarwood and grapefruit. It sounds horrible, but it is light and refreshing, while still being something of a dressy scent.
It is very unique and you will not likey run into someone else wearing it. It isn't a dynamic scent, but rather keeps the same fragrance throughout the day.
Hermes will send you a sample if you ask them.

Creed Himalaya
A light, clean, pleasant scent. Decants are available at basenotes.com, I bought mine there, great service too.
