This was my first use of the Arko Commando. I was very pleased with how quickly it whips up into a big, rich lather. :thumbup1: In fact, I probably left a little bit too much water in the brush before I began. For anyone trying this, I recommend that you shake your brush out a little more than usual and then add water as necessary while whipping it.
Cheers,

YMMV, but after 6 months or so of use, I love the Long Handle Classic....it has become my go-to piece. For me, it works better than all the Gillettes, GEMS, and other Merkurs in my collection. It consistently provides the best all around shaves, no matter the blade, cream or soap used. Just the perfect handle length, balance, and weight make it the "right stuff".

I'll need a few more shaves with the Sharp to have an opinion... initially I really like it. However, like the Feather, it might end up being TOO sharp (it's not nearly as sharp as the Feather though).

Interesting comment. I am still working my way through my razor collection and Sharp blades. During the past week I have tried them in both a Gold Tech and a standard 1951 Tech. I would regard these razors as being quite tame.....however they were both more agressive when using a Sharp blade. Perhaps the blade thickness has something to do with it. Anyways.....in both cases I obtained EXTREMELY close shaves.

I was shocked at how gentle the Sharp blades are, in fact, I think they really speed up the learning process for a beginner and give him confidence.

Hey, Jeff and Richard, I’m looking for a decent brushless gel for use when travelling. If such a thing doesn’t exist, I’ll contemplate buying a travel brush.
Pull the plug - you'll save money in the long run (i.e., the money you would waste on brushless products you won't like).
I bought a little SR100 in pure from QED (small brush with screw-top travel container) for $28. That plus a shave stick, tube of cream or a sample-size container and I'm ready to hit the road. Much more enjoyable than any brushless I've ever tried. Especially if you want to use a straight while on the road!

After using the SR 3118 and Simpson Chubby for a long stretch, I really dislike the 2234 and can't believe that anyone would recommend this brush for a first brush (Mr Blogger, you know who you are...). It is like applying lather with wet, cooked spaghetti. It is relegated to the wife for shaving her legs and has lost a place in "the cabinet". The Lime was not at all Limey, but not a bad shave though.
Pull the plug - you'll save money in the long run (i.e., the money you would waste on brushless products you won't like).
I have another brushless on its way and a member of this forum also PMed me about a special product. If both dissatisfy me, I’ll follow your advice.

I continue to find that the Mens-U Face Wash is phenominal at squashing irritation following a shave if it is used before the Skin Food.

* I used the NB cream with a brush (as you see). It appears that NB actually formulated this as a brushless cream, but I have read on B&B how others have used a brush with success with this product. While it did work, it did not result in the sort of thick lather that a cream intended for use with brushes can produce. Next time I get to this in my rotation, I will apply the cream for at least one pass without a brush to see how that works.
** This was my first use of a brand new Simpson brush. I have read how the Simpson decal comes off these brushes easily, but I didn't realize just how easily: it was a very sad moment as I watched the decal go down the sink drain. :crying:

I actually got 2 bottles of the Extra Strength version on ebay. I am on my second bottle now.
I found a local source recently in my local mall at a health food store. They had the whole line except fo rthe Extra Strength version, so when I run out I'll probably pick up a rose bottle from them.
Sorry to hear about your rotten luck. Keep looking around your local health stores and if you still can't find them, I think you can order from Thayers directly.
If you are still out of luck, I can pick up a few bottles for you and ship them out to you. Though shipping will be a bit costly as I'm in Canada.
Edit : Opps just read that you already have access to the Rose. I think your best bet is to order from Thayers.

I have become an injector convert - in fact I almost never use my DEs anymore (especially during the week - when time is of the essence). I've only been using the adjustable for about a week now and its perhaps my favourite of the lot - I do the first few passes on 4 and then move up to 5 for the last pass and clean up.
The original puts the Nationwide copy to shame - the materials are higher quality throughout, the adjust mechanism is much better, and the razor just weighs more overall - especially the head. All I can say is shame on Nationwide for trying to fob off crappy copies on the wetshaving public.

First time trying the Zia Face Scrub. I found it to be pleasent enough, not much scent, with natural abrasive bits taking care of the exfoliating. I'll continue to use it, although it did strike me as being a bit pricey; $9.99 at Whole Foods.

All I can say is -Don't like it very much. It works, it's well made and as you can see it can whip up a mountain of lather, its also to big a brush for me
I think its a loft issue- too long and not dense enough.

Started work at 2:00am, so I just got my shave in at 4:00pm, and what a great shave it was.
I must say that the new PJ2 performed quite well with the Pre de Provence soap. I always get a great shave with the PdP soap, it is just a fantastic product, and I think the PJ is here to stay as well.

Slant with Derby - 4th Use
3 passes N-S, S-N, Horizontal Against TG
Nice BBS 3 pass shave (a couple of patches), but I ripped up my neck fairly well. I also didn't want to do touchups for risk of overshave.
Hi Tommy,
A few thoughts came to mind as I read your note:
1. I like the Derby Extra blades very much, but I do not push them past three days.
2. I usually perform a three pass shave, but my order is: N-S, E-W (horizontal), and then S-N.
3. I don't tear-up my neck. Maybe you should try switching the pass directions around?
Cheers,
Danny
