I'm about to buy my first high quality shaving brush. After reading quite a bit about brushes here, the one question I haven't seen addressed is: To what extent will the knot size or length of the brush affect how quickly I burn through my shaving cream?

I prefer cream and lather in a bowl.

I am imagining that a smaller brush might use up the cream a bit more slowly. I can see that no matter which brush I get I'll be looking for another before too long anyway. But it would be nice to know what to expect from a cost standpoint. My last tub of Truefitt and Hill lasted about 5 months with a cheap, small brush. I'm picturing going through it twice as fast should I buy a Chubby 2.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I don't think it will make much difference one way or the other. The Trufitt and Hill cream that lasted 5 months should last about the same, regardless of the brush.

If anything, a good quality brush may generate more lather with a given amount of cream because the bristles will hold more water.

I don't think it makes any difference at all with creams and very little if any using soaps, I have several brushes from a Rooney 1/1 stubby up to a very large 28-30mm brush, I scoop out the exact same amount of lather no matter what brush I use, some require much more water or more work to make the lather then others and some hold more 2nd and 3rd pass lather in the bristles then others but I always use same amount of cream for all.

My experience is that really large brushes like a Kent BK-12 require noticably more cream to load them. Anything in the 20-26 mm range should be about the same usage. The sweet spot for face lathering is generally in the 22 mm range.
