It's one thing to toss in a cheap bar of soap, but try doing that with an expensive bar of Taylor's, Trumper, etc and see how you feel! Fortunately, when I was melting soaps, I tried it with a 99 cent puck of Williams. Nothing lost there. But to put a cake of expensive soap into the microwave and wind up with "cat vomit" results....I'll pass! In fact, I no longer melt soaps based on SCS Sue's comments.
