I'm just wondering if any of you lube of grease the threads on your safety razor. I've noticed that screwing my new HD together after fitting a blade is a little rough to say the the least. I'm thinking a little silicone grease might do the job to prolong the life of the threads?

You might have something in the threads.
I've noticed with some of the Merkurs excessive plating on the male threads can cause binding.
That's why I have a #10-32 thread chasing die and a #10-32 tap to clean up buggered threads.
I mainly use them on vintage razors to clean up abused threads but have also used them on newer Merkurs.

Robotack, you can use any ordinary contact spray available at your hardware store. I use the stuff in the pictures below, works great.

I'd clean them off with a little brush but I would not put any type of oil or lube on them. Perhaps a little soap but that's about it.
I have many razors that are 80 to 100 years old and still use them. The threads are fine on them so I would not worry about it to much.

That might be a Merkur thing...quality control issue or the like...I've never had any problem with my Gillettes

+1, a Merkur 1904 I have since traded away had a really hard time opening. The three non-TTO Gillettes I've owned are silky smooth, almost too smooth
