Not too bad so far. The black razor is a mililitary gillette, and the brown is a "Slant Stroke" razor. Almost completely plastic, and despite its name, it isn't a slant razor :frown:
Also picked up a barely used Gillette ladies travel razor. But... its of the Central/South American variety: "Marcas Regs".
And not sure I can get past the scent of Tabac....

After many months of coveting, I finally have my Lined Chatsworth (and some other goodies)! Although I was a bit surprised to see that it has the new Mühle head, instead of my beloved Merkur head. I'm very interested to see how it performs...Aesthetically, I love it. Its clean lines give it an elegance that is somewhat lacking in the Merkurs.

Very nice, the lined Chatsworth is next on my list! I hadn't paid attention recently, when did they stop using Merkur heads? Is it still possible to get one with a Merkur head?

Hello All.
I have been absent from these parts for some time now but finally have a sufficiently interesting occurrence which I feel required to share.
My new bottle of Penhaligon’s Elixir arrived today (which I ordered un-sampled hoping it would differ enough from Hammam Bouquet not to smell like fresh diaper on my skin) and although it was intended as a Christmas present from the wife she allowed me a few minutes with the latest edition to the den so that I could sample, photo and post the results.
It goes without saying that the packaging is first rate (as with all of Penhaligon’s offerings). The scent, in my humble opinion, is terrific. I really pick up the eucalyptus and cinnamon and the rose of course. Foolish folly of impulse justified. No more regrets about Hammam Bouquet.
Wishing you and yours a Happy Holiday Season and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.
Enjoy the pics

I'm not sure when they stopped using Merkur heads. But it must have been recently, because their distributor's website still shows the Merkur heads on the lined Chatsworth (hence my surprise). You would have to ask them whether you could get one with a Merkur head...that I do not know. Although, I guess if you were desperate (and didn't care about the lower quality plating), you could always just exchange a 3-piece Merkur head for the Muhle one. They're interchangeable. To be honest, the geometry of the head, the angles, and the blade gap all look nearly identical to Merkur heads.
Nice Score!

Thanks! I'll be sure to post an update...

I was down to my last tube of Speick so I just had to order a couple of tubes from WCS. Also picked up a puck of TOBS Lavender, Musgo Real ASB and some packs of Sharp, 7 OC and BIC blades.
Tried the Sharps out this morning and they were better than expected.
I got this in todays mail:
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Score161208_01.jpg
A replica WWII German Luftwaffe shaving set. I re-enact a few time-periods, but WWII is currently not one of them. I bought the set hoping that the razor was a Merkur 1904. Sadly it wasn't.
The razor is branded Yuma it is cast in a lightweight material and the finish is wery poor. The blade gap is quite big and I suspect this razor to be quite agressive. I am still not quite sure whether I really want to try it out or not.
The brush is actually not bad, I believe it is boar. Though it does seem to loose quite a few hairs when you fumble agound with it.
A few pics of the razor:

In the mailbox this afternoon in Balmy Tampa.
Mappin & Webb 5/8 "Nulli Secundus" Genuine Ivory Scales.
A most elegant addition to my shave journey.
It is the "Saturday" razor from a Mappin & Webb 7 day set. My unscientific theory is that it MAY be one of the least used razors from a 7 day set. I wondered if "Saturday" would have been a day to skip a shave for a gentleman, having shaved certainly on Friday and also on Sunday prior to Church, leaving Saturday as a rarely used selection.
Many thanks to my friend Don Addleman (TAZ)

This week, I got a Brand new Gillette travel razor, 1960's in the case, with a single blade. Aluminum handle, I haven't tried it out yet.
Also I got a Red Tip, in trade with a fellow member, for my 1956 Blue Tip aluminum. I like it much more, but also have not shaved with it yet.
Great score Jakob, How does it shave?
Thanks. I haven't tried it yet. My face is still recovering from my "poor lather with new soap meets too much eagerness with a Gillette swede" experience (ouch!)
From the looks of it I suspect it to be fairly agressive though.

I still need to clean and polish the razors. 1 Gem Black handle, 1 Ever Ready Ornate handle, 1 Gem White handle, 1 Star plain handle, 1 Gem plain handle, 1 Enders Speed, a Valet head and several packs of DE blades. All for .99 plus shipping! Anyone know anything about the Enders? I think it may be missing a part of the head.

He he - from the pictures at the auction I knew that this old fellow was not in pristine shape. But, it showed out to be in even worse state when it showed up:

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Score181208_02.jpg
The razor bears no markings or stampings. The handle, which is in pretty good shape is cromed brass, the head is cromed zinc with heavy plate loss and a broken tooth. The box is wood covered with paper.
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Score181208_03.jpg
Included was a package of Danish Jyden nr. 50 stainless cold hardened old-type blades and the comb from a Gillette Old Style, probably used as a replacement for the original comb with the proken tooth. Maybe one should try one of the blades in a Gillette Old Style someday?
Regards.

Finally got my order of Fitjar Shaving Soaps from Norway (Royal Mail's fault, they were shipped quickly enough from Norway) and a puck of Windsor Shave Soap from Australia.
Unfortunately, my wife was quicker than me when it came to placing the orders, so I can't play with them 'til Christmas. :crying:

Went to a local thrift-shop yesterday and noticed a lonely razor and a 10 pack of blades sitting under the glass. Asked the guy at the counter how much, and he said $10. Called sol92258 to see what he knew about the cut-throat and his cursory searches turned up little. I noted that the blades that were in package were "shaper blades" looking like the turrets on a castle, not too useful for shaving, but maybe you can get regular blades for it too... still, $10? "Too rich for my blood," I told the man.
"$7.50?"
"Sold."
So, now I've got a razor I can find little information about. I've been able to find replacement shaper blades for this little jewel, and I can find straight blades for other feather razors, but I'm not sure if the standard blades will fit it. Does anyone know?
I'll try to post some pics later.
For now, here's the description:
It has lime green scales with silver writing:
Feather Plier Standard *L
The blade holder has a plastic slider built in for ejecting blades.
Here's the closest picture I can find online (note that it doesn't have the thumb slide):

My wife was being playful this morning so instead of wrapped presents I got the following:

2. A Screen-shot emailed to me this morning for multiple items ordered from Lee's Razors, a 38C, A bowl of GFT Violet with a refill of Coconut, a 39C, a Tabula Rasa SC, and 3 tubs of various TOBS creams in St James, Shaving Shop, and Avocado...My Favorites.
3. A 'hint' that soap was coming from...Olivia's! She said..."Some lady with a GERMAN accent keeps calling...her name is Olivia and says she has your soap." Yeah! This is the BEST Christmas EVER!
4. 1 of Tub Cella, and a Kilo of Proraso Pre-Post from Tryphon...

I unwrapped with glee this morning- 1 tub of TOBS Shave Shop, 1 bottle of Provence Sante Green Tea and the Boosters Sampler. As I was sniffing scents and enjoying my shaving booty (not nearly close to 7 pucks of Tabac), my wife asked me if this whole shaving thing was a cult. I laughed and tossed her the Wesley and Scott ASB sample I got with all the stuff above. She smelled it and really liked it. I told her that this is far from a cult. We are men and women with excellent taste in shaving products. Connoisseurs was the word that we ultimately agreed upon.

Thinking it's an Old Type. Has "PAT NOV. 15 04" on the handle and "G375085" stamped on the inside of the comb piece.
Wonder if it's possible to nail down the year of manufacture?
Has the usual hairline crack in the handle, too. Also missing the top to the blade box. Any idea where I might find another?

Actually you have the top, you are missing the bottom of the blade box. It will be gold colored and fit inside the top you show. The bottom will have a circle cut out of the middle to make it easy to remove the blades from the box.
I've not seen parts sold, but you can often find them as part of inexpensive vintage razor sets on eBay.:001_smile

My daughter (age 7) was watching me shave and noticed my stiptic pencil was in bits, started asking me questions about it, where you could get one, etc. And sure enough, she picked one out for me! Not the best gift in terms of wow factor, but the best in that she picked it out all by herself!
Also got a tube of Zihr shave cream.
Great Hauls guys!

an old brush scuttle, case for my Aristocrat Junior, QED Fresh Lime, a nearly all aluminum Rocket! only 33 g, TOBS Lemon Lime, Gillette 75th aniversary belt buckle (I don't wear belt buckles) and a French NEW set (made in England)
The French set has this stamp on it:

I also got my Psychos. I purchased two, and discussed getting three with the seller, because I am crazy, but backed out on the third, but the seller told me that they were going to send me the box as a bonus for helping them sell the razors, but I get the package and there is another bonus! :D I hope everyone else got their Psychos and are as happy with them as I am!

My family and I drove out to Amish country here in Volant,PA and it was gorgeous. It was in the mid 60s outside and there was a beautiful sunset. Oh and we had fried cod and fries for dinner (mammoth portions). The kids had their usual cheeseburger and fries. I was surprised to see a shop called Common Scents.
They had all types of soaps, oils, lotions and all types of fragrances. The GLW insisted we go in and check and see if they had shaving stuff. I was doubtful at first but man it was worth checking out. I was able to get a puck of Ogallala Bay Rum ss and Ogallala Bay Rum as. To make it better everything in the store was half off so I picked up both for about $10. It was a very nice evening to watch the sunset as we drove home this evening.

1966 Lady Gillette - blue handle/stars (thrown in with the Milady as a bonus).

WOW!
No photos yet.
Just finished polishing the Bulldog. It's looking a lot better. Initially, I thought parts of it might have been painted black. It now looks silver mostly (still some very dark spots) and I think it will be my razor this week.
No bent teeth and the crack in the handle doesn't seem to affect tightening down the head.

A fellow I work with came up to me and explained how he inherited a building out in West Texas, and found this, a small shave cabinet. The building was built in 1929, an office building with apartments upstairs IIRC, and apparantly these were common. He thought I'd like it, knowing my affinity for old-school shaving
As you can see, there is a holder for a brush, and razor, and a toothbrush (or another razor), a shelf for blades/soaps, and a place for a mirror in the front. I need to clean it up and repaint it, but before I did I figured ya'll enjoy seeing it.
Next up in the lineup is:

Long story short - a friend gave it to her, so she gave it to me!
stunning condition, I have NOT cleaned that thing up yet! It was in this condition as I received it. Even the blade inside almost looks usable.

went antiquing while I was home for Christmas and found these two little guys.
TWO bucks each,
The superspeed is not notched, no clue on age.
The Slim is a 1962, and looks unused(other than some blade rust that was in it)
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b337/fnord5/DSC00243.jpg
Then I got home and snagged a bowl from my parents, as well as an old bottle of Old Spice Musk that I hated a long time ago. Not too bad now, but the scent lingers!

No notch makes it a '47 which is the 1st year of the 40s style Super Speeds. That was the only year of no notch. Very desireable for that reason. Nice find!

48/49 were the first years with the notches, but were the superspeeds different before that?
I thought that they were all the same till the notches, then till the date codes.

Pretty cool for $7.50, even if you can't shave with it! Nice bargin. I found a virtually flawless English Ever-Ready SE razor (GEM 1912 style) in the green marble case (the case has a piece broken off). The price in an antique shop was $28. The woman said she could do better on the price. She then told me how she found in in England while visiting with her husband a few years back. She then said she would let it go for $20. I said, "Well...would you entertain $15?" She said sure. So I picked it up. It is neat that it is complete with the case and it has no scratches or brassing. I'll shave with it one of these days.
