I know there arent alot of fans of the Merkur DE blades but I found this blade does extremely well on my neck area - clean, smooth & without irritation.
I obtained them when I purchased my Merkur 38C and actually was my first blade to initiate my first foray into Wet Shaving. It was all right but I chalked up the sub-par shave to my in-experienced technique. But I eventually tried other blades when I got my hands on a WCS sample pack. Nope it was the Merkur blade. I wanted to use up the ones left over just laying around & found upon review ... hey they work great on my neck. A spot thats been so sensitive & hard to get smooth. Its been the only blade that can do a great job on my neck but create a bad version of The Texas Chainsaw above my chin. :o10: So I am still searching for the Holy Grail of blades for me that will bring it all together with one blade.
So now I have found myself on occasion using 2 separate blades in my Fat Boy, the one being the Merkur DE blade for my neck region - & with great results. So I was wondering does anyone else use 2 different blades in the same shave?

I use just one brand per shave but my neck determines which are my go-to blades. A lot of brands work well on the rest of my beard but there is a spot in my neck where my beard grows in all directions and is easily irritated too.

No, that would be making things much too complicated for me. I use one blade and one razor and I adjust my technique when necessary.

Not necessarily 2 different blades in one razor but i always have 2 razors loaded with blades, one is my super adjustable and one other.

if i had enough $$, id buy the factory where merkur blades are produced and blow it up. i hate those things. shaving with one was equatable to laying in a closed box lined with steel wool with spiders and cockroaches.

Just yesterday I tried something new... I loaded up an Old style with a Dorco ST301 blade, and a Gillette 7 O'clock (green) blade in my Weishi 9306. The open comb on the Old seems to grab those flat lying neck hairs with ease, but can't do anything for my face. The Weishi is great on the face, but misses too much on my neck.
I'm still playing with my other razors, but I found it an interesting concept. Perhaps I'll just keep a loaded open comb around all the time, just for my neck!
EDIT: For the record, I still like my Merkur blades... Not the smoothest blade I've used (not even close), but overall my skin seems to like it. Very little skin irritation afterwards, compares favourably to Derby in that regard, and cuts closer than my beloved Dorcos.

I concur with the negative feedback on the Merkur blades. Started shaving with them when I got into wet shaving and have since found much better performers. After several months of wonderful shaves I decided to go back and try the Merkurs again just in case it was my technique. It was like week 1 of wet shaving all over again. Pulling, tugging, and weepers! Second shave with the blade was just as bad. After that the last couple blades I had were put away in the round file or rather through the blade disposal slot on my vanity.
Adios crappy blades!

Really unbelievable how this YMMV-thing works. I found the Merkurs to be one of the better performers, just too expensive. And then all the positive feedback on those terrible Derby's; as if I could get one decent shave out of those blanks...

yeah i agree how its a real hot and cold issue. i know a couple of top notch fellows over at SMF that swear by merkur blades.

After buying my third Merkur razor I found that I had three Merkur blades lying in the cupboard. I used them in succession in a Merkur 34C razor and they worked fine for me, though the fourth shave seemed to be poor on each blade, so I changed it whilst I normally get a weeks worth from the Israeli Personnas (Super +) blades than I normally use.
Solo blade user...but I don't particularly like those blades.

I found the Merkurs to be one of the better performers also, only not in the Merkur razors I have. Yes they are too expensive for what they are:mad3:, many blades work as good or better for me at half the cost.
