Looks like my unit is going overseas in April!

I'm wondering if my SR3824 will do well with Iraqi water? I'm guessing I won't be getting any good cream over there so I'll just have to stock up before leaving. :001_smile

Be safe... our thoughts are with you and your fellow guardsmen. Here's hoping your shaves can be a reminder of home comforts and an brief escape from your vigilant work. Your service is appreciated beyond measure.

Incidentally, my mom was born in Rosemount. I'd never heard anything else about the place until reading that article. Small world!

Stay safe...

On a side note isn't it funny how people in the military don't find out anything via the chin of command and must rely on traditional news services to find out what is going on with their unit.

Makes me glad I'm not still in the corps

Might want to consider getting a couple pucks of a good triple milled soap as well. A good puck will last a lot longer than any tube or tub of cream. L'Occitane would be good. Other members will nominate their favorites too. And I suggest that you stock up on your favorite razor blade also. Don't know how long you'll in the sandbox but a 100 blade pack should hold you a while.

Thanks for all the awesome well wishing. I'm actually very excited and a little apprehensive. I think as I get closer to the date, I'm be very apprehensive and a little excited.

I'm in training now and will be up until the time I leave. I'll get about 10 days of winter exodus (x-mas break) and then get back to training. It is my first deployment, but I'm going with a great bunch of people who have been deployed before. I'll give you guys updates once I get over there. I'll probably need to buy a digital camera (my wife will keep the one we have now to take pictures of the kids to send me). But I'll try to send pictures.

It's not as bad as earlier in the war. But it will be hard to leave the family-- though I've been in Arizona for three months, I feel close to them geographically. Iraq just seems so far away!

Or you can send your address and I'm sure someone will be able to send a puck or two.

I remember while I was in that space was at a premium going over, but not so bad once there.

Stay safe. Come home fast.

Be safe and have a joyous homecoming!
My son tells me that the water is the absolute worst for shaving or for coffee.

Good luck and thanks for your service. My 3824 works awesome with my Tabac soap (just shaved with that combo, as a matter of fact), that's what I'd take into battle

That's exactly what I was thinking! I get go home for two weeks over winter exodus (I'm in training for a new MOS right now). I'm going to stock up on Tabac and bring that. I'll probably bring a few tubes of Poraso too, I think the cooling sensation will be awesome in the summer.

The mail works well these days-use it! Just take two pucks/bowls/whatever with you, and when the first is used up order a new one (that is, tell the wife it's time to send another care package). That way you can figure out over time if you prefer pucks or creams or tubes while there (I'd strongly consider a tube- the friggin dust gets in everything and your white soap/cream will turn brown if you're not careful). Plus, there are times you may not have water. A tube cream can still work pretty well whereas a puck may be trickier.

And I agree with whoever said the comment about space- it's a premium going over, and it can be a pain coming back too. I was stuck in Kuwait for a few days coming home, and they did all but strip search me and my stuff before getting on the Freedom Bird. The less you can carry the better. Almost anything can get mailed to you. But, you can mail a lot home for pretty cheap too...

Regardless- you're right. The family/kids separation is the hardest part.

Keep it in the trenches! :001_smile
