View Full Version : It's Here - The B&B LE 2008!

2008 B&B Limited Edition
Albeit late, it was well worth the wait!
They're here, in all of their remarkable glory. While it took much longer than expected, it was well worth the wait. I inspected a handful of these brushes and couldn't tell the difference between them - the quality control and consistency was unlike any other batch of brushes I have ever seen. This my friends, is the highest quality product to have carried the B&B name.... it's all the prototype was, and more.
NOTE: These brushes have been pre-ordered, so they are no longer available, and are a one time, limited run. Unfortunately, this means if this is the first time you're hearing of these brushes, unfortunately, you're too late to pick one up.
Now onto what you you care about most..... pictures!!

To finalize your order IF YOU ARE A BUYER IN THE US - send a $4 paypal to
[email protected] to cover the import fee. Once we receive all of the paypals, we'll open up the order process for those of you with gift certificates - and provide all of the details this weekend.
They should be in your hot little hands shortly!
Update: If you pre-ordered a brush, instructions to receive it can be found here (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?p=893997#post893997).

Thanks to Joel and the other hard working moderators who made this happen. First class all the way my friend.
Its been a long road, Welcome home LE08!
Thanks to the guys involved for all their hard work!:thumbup1:
It's been a while since I've gotten excited over a brush, but the fit and finish on these things, and the quality/characteristics of the knot are phenomenal. The hot stamping is also very clean and professional, as is to be expected. :thumbup1:

The problem with these tubes we call the internets is that those IT guys haven't figured out how to actually transport important objects straight to our computers. I want that brush NOW!!

I must say... When I first saw the prototype of this brush several months ago, I loved the knot, but was a bit skeptical of the handle. MAN! There's something about that Kent emblem that makes that handle positively stunning!
I think everyone needs to give Joel and mods a round of applause for creating, yet another, flawless product.
I'll admit to some thoughts of selling mine when it arrives as I had kind of lost interest. The pictures though are almost overwhelming and I highly doubt it will be going anywhere. Paypal sent, hope everyone pays up timely so we can get this going.

Outstanding job gentlemen! And I'm glad the duty thing worked itself out. An extra four bucks is a blip for the cost & value of this offer. Look at that brush, look at that case, look at the custom B&B logo - simply stunning. I predict my beloved Chubby and short loft Shavemac are both going to be taking a very long a rest soon.

Due to this outclassing my wildest expectation, and being the finest shaving brush that's ever touched my face (hands down) - Nick, John (he doesn't know he's on the hook yet) and I are going to start in on another B&B custom by Kent for 2009, different handle, but the same *knock your socks off* custom hair/knot.
Naturally - it'll likely take as long (or longer) than this one had, but once you fellas get your hands on these, I know you're going to want more... a lot more.
Note: This existing brush/design is a true "limited edition" in that it's a one shot deal. The 2009 version will look substantially different, which will make both brushes special, and completely unique. I am 100% certain this 08 will become an immediate collectors item.... as the 09 likely will to boot.

Thank you, Joel!!! :w00t: I look forward to that brush.

Ah, you knew I wouldn't be able to say no to another B&B brush project!

*These instructions are for people who pre-ordered a 2008 B&B LE. If you weren't able to pre-order, stay tuned, the 2009 B&B LE is in the works.*
Order Completion Instructions
OK guys, the process is pretty straightforward. The brush can be found here:
http://badgerandblade.com/shop/product.php?productid=16137
Remember those gift certificates you've been sitting on patiently for months? Simply add the number of brushes you pre-ordered to the cart, and complete the checkout process using the gift certificate as your payment. A couple things to note:
1. Make sure your shipping address is correct. Once submitted, there's no guarantee we'll be able to fix it in time if you have an "oh crap" moment immediately after hitting submit.
2. The comment section in the checkout process is fairly worthless if you fill it out, we might not see any special notes or requests. Please no special requests.
3. Domestic shipping will likely be FedEx Ground/Home Delivery, but your order may ship USPS (unlikely, just a heads up, some of y'all are out in the middle of nowhere and FedEx can get pricey). Tracking numbers are not available. Ground shipping takes 5-7 business days typically. It'll likely be quicker the closer you are to the SF Bay Area. Due to how many of these bad boys need to go out, your order may not ship the day you redeem your gift certificate, so if it takes more than a week from the time you placed your order, don't worry, it's likely on its way.
International Orders:
Please PM me with the following information:
Your name (and the name that's on the gift certificate if different)
Your paypal email address
The email address associated with the gift certificate.
What country your brush is being shipped to.
I'll PM you back with how much to paypal us for shipping, and once your payment is received, you'll be sent an additional gift certificate to cover the difference.
Thanks for your patience gentlemen, I have a feeling you'll find it was worth the wait.

Thanks again, Nick and Joel. The whole gift certificate/redemption process made me a little nervous, as a non-tech type of an old(er) guy, but it ended up being a breeze, even for me. (At least I think so; hope it doesn't end up in Antarctica.)
After months of thinking about it, my first use will have to be with a soap because this will be my first un-floppy brush. Probably C&E Sienna.

Update: I've been using this sucker for 3 days now - and it's only gotten better. Have VERY high - near unreasonable expectations for this bad mamma jamma... it'll exceed them nonetheless.
I won't go into grave detail - as I'm sure that's all everyone will be talking about for months, but to sum it up, it is the softest brush i've ever felt on my face, with absolutely zero flop. It's akin to a silk massage on your face - and due to the density of the knot, and the soft/splaying tips, it generates lather with reckless abandon.

I've received everyone's message. Unfortunately, from boxing and packaging, I didn't have enough time on Saturday to get to international orders. If you sent me a PM, don't worry, it isn't going anywhere. Worst case, if I can't get to this after work, I'll get to it some time this weekend. If you want to get a rough ballpark on shipping, go to USPS.com, and calculate Priority shipping from the US to your country for a box that's 9 or 10 ounces (with $150 insurance), then tack on another 3 percent or so and 30ish cents for Paypal and that'll give you a good idea.

Just got mine today via FedEx here in Phoenix. Whoa! It didn't occur to me how small the actual brush was compared to my AOS Finest. But it's a lot denser. So I showered, put Shave Secret on my face, loaded the B&B LE 2008 with Mamma Bear's Bay Rum. First thing I noticed was how easily the brush loaded the soap. Being smaller than my other brushes it fit beautifully on the soap in the container without extending beyond. Then I lathered in an OS mug and it produced a denser lather than my other brushes. Putting it to my face, I found it to softer. Being smaller and denser this brush worked better than my other brushes also. Better in every way. I'm very impressed with it. This is my new favorite and go to brush.:w00t:

The good news? IT'S HERE!
The bad news? It doesn't fit my brush holder!
I went to the Kent site to see what they had to offer in brush holders. I wasn't impressed. My preference is "Danish Modern". An old school way of saying what the future was suppose to be i.e. bent metal wires see attachment.
So excluding the bent plastic sheet at Kent's, what are the available holders for our 2008 Badger and Blade brush?
Now I have to eagerly await tomorrow's shave. It's smaller than I thought--but seems both very luxurious and precise--perfect. I look forward to my shave.

My B&B 2008 LE has completed it's long journey across the country and arrived safely in NYC... Woo-Hoo!
It is truly a beautiful little brush. Not many have mentioned the handle and I want to point out how great it feels in my hand. You can immediately tell that this is a brush of the highest production quality. With its short loft, dense knot, and soft tips, I believe it will prove to be perfect for face lathering the triple milled soaps I love so much.
I'm confident that all of you who were fortunate enough to order a B&B 2008 LE will be very happy!

My co-workers always kid me about my shaving supplies. It seems like every other day a box is dropped off in my office.
Today a box contained my B&B LE 08. It has landed in lower Manhattan. To all those that make this happen, thank you. As others have said it's not a large brush, but I didn't see anyone write how heavy it is for it's size. It looks and just feels right in the hand. This is my first luxury brush and can't be happier. I will be up all night thinking about tomorrow's shave set up. Oh what to do.
Sign me up for the B&E LE 2009, show me the dotting line and I will sign away.
I leave you with my most sincere and heartfelt wishes for a Happy, Healthy Holiday Season for you and your families…..and that it is followed by an equally happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

I had the same question: can anyone recommend a holder for this brush?

Order completed. Thanks again guys.
Any hints on how to prepare the brush for its first use?
Also what is everyone going to use as their first cream/soap for the new brush? I can't make up my mind.
My Soap choices:
MWF
AOS Lav
L'occitaine
Tabac
Speick
C&E Sandalwood
C&E Siena
Creams
AOS Lav
T&H 1805
Proraso
GT Coconut
TOBS St. James
TOBS Avacodo
C&E Sandalwood
C&E Siena
C&E Sweet Almond Oil
C&E Nomad
Speik
Happy Holidays!!!

After opening the Fedex box late yesterday in the office and unwrapping this jewel of a brush all I could think about was the morning shave and what was going to be my medium of choice. After much deliberation I decided to go with the Art of Shaving Lavender Soap. This was a sentimental choice because after adding so many other soaps and creams to my rotation, AOS Lavender was my first soap I bought a few years ago when I was still using M3.
All I can say is wow, the brush loaded soap very easily and smoothly. When I applied the soap to my beard it felt great and this is the odd part, the cream looked whiter and fluffier than I ever saw before.
Fellow B&B'ers who ordered this brush you will be thrilled. It's a great product and it will be used and used for many years to come. It will get some rest only after the the B&B LE 2009 is added to the collection.
Thanks again to all those who made this possible.
Dave
I had the same question: can anyone recommend a holder for this brush?
Ditto that. My cheap, $5 AoS holder is pinching the bristles a bit at the neck. Any alternate suggestions would be welcomed. I want to maintain this work of art properly!

Maybe give this stand (http://www.excaliburcutlery.com/brushes.php?m=product_detail&p=125) a try? It should fit any brush.

Hooray! Mine just arrived here in Iowa!
Could someone please be so kind as to instruct me on the proper preparation of this fine piece of art?
That is to say, what should one do with a brand new brush in order to properly break it in?
And again, thank you to all those who made this possible!
Many folks will tell you: just use it.....thatll do just fine.
Some like to give it a wash in shampoo, a dish soap (Dawn works well) or a borax dip.
If there is a "new" aroma that accompanied the brush then maybe one of these methods would be helpful; if not: load her up with your favorite stuff and whip up some lather !!

I haven't lost one yet (knock on wood) and I've worked it out vigorously on English Fern and Tabac soaps.
Mine has a slight new brush funk, nothing bad. I have noticed brown colored lather when I squeeze it out of the brush when I'm done shaving.
This has quickly become my go to brush, the handle is great!

I was surprised to find absolutely no smell to this beauty when I got it. Now that I've been using it for over a week, it seems to be getting better at making lather with soap and releasing that lather to the whiskers. Truly a fantastic specimen.

My thoughts exactly, however I have been dying to shelve and replace my 26mm knot Vulfix 2236 for six months as my one and only daily brush. My biggest and only real reason to replace this brush, and it is my mistake, it’s that the brush is too big. A medium size knot, all rounder is what is best for me. My previous brush was a small knot beginner brush that is now worn out after 30 years of daily service, had it since I was sixteen; Still use it, only as a comparison. I will write about that one day. Right now, I read the hype and pretend that these are :out: lunatic members that are too excited, too blinded and are over exaggerating with no real facts supporting there super high end, beautifully hand made, gorgeous Kent shaving brush. I feel like a real excited kid :out:waiting for my toy to be delivered. :badger:

My tracking info for my brush stated that it was to be delivered on 12-30-08, but I got it on the evening of 12-27-08. I was in the middle of cooking the coconut cream pudding for the coconut cream pie when my front door bell rang. I turned off the flame and went to the door to find a box a few feet away from my door. I found a "little one" inside that was crying out to be fed. I thought it might want some of my coconut cream pie but my Manly Instincts said it wanted my soap instead. I would have shaved right then, but I decided that the "little one" would be the dessert after the dessert.
My first brush was/is a 3122 Savile Row and it has been a great brush. I knew after the first use of it though, that I would have liked a brush with a 20 mm knot and one that had a shorter loft. When this LE 2008 became available, I knew that one was gonna-be-mine.
As many have mentioned, the LE 2008 does look small but it is also just right. My fingers fit on this handle as if the handle was custom made for me. I have big hands and this handle is smaller than the 3122, but it just feels so much better than my 3122. I really like the extra length of the handle as well.
This "little one" did eat up my soap really easily and made lots of lather. The brush felt fantastic lathering up my face. The density of this brush compared to my 3122 is amazing. In all ways, I like this brush. There was an animal stink that I smelled while I was using the brush, but that went away after I took a shower. (It's hard work making a coconut cream pie with a graham cracker crust.)

What I can tell you is that I got an email on 12-20-08, that stated that my order was completed, and on 12-22-08, I got an email that gave me the tracking information. I then received the brush on 12-27-08. Nick's name was on the tracking information as the giver of the info to FedEx. Wish I could be of more assistance with regard to your brush.

Hmm, to my knowledge, tracking information was stated as not being available for the 2008LE in the first post announcing the 2008LE's availability. However, there were a small amount of Series 2 B&B Essentials that got tracking info thanks to Nick trying a new way to enter the shipping info with FedEx.
I didn't get any tracking info for my 2008LE, but I did get tracking info for my B&B Essential. For the Essential, I got my "order completed" e-mail on 12-20-08, and my tracking info email on 12-22-08, just like Dan did. Since there's still like 59 2008LEs in the store, I suppose it's possible that the new shipping entry method could be used on the 2008LEs from the 20th on. So I guess the question is, which brush did you get, Dan?

I got my brush today!! Actually I have probably had my brush for a couple weeks and I didn't even know it! I live in a second floor apartment and today I went to take some boxes out to the storage unit next to the patio when I saw a box on the patio. It was the brush! I hadn't been out on my patio for a couple weeks, and I never would have thought to look on the patio for a package since the patio is not accessible from outside the apartment. I guess I wasn't home so the FedEx guy just chucked the package up on the patio instead of dropping it off at the office or leaving it on my front doorstep like they normally do. And he didn't leave a door tag to let me know to look on the patio. I have no idea how long it had been sitting just fifteen feet from my computer while I agonized over it's whereabouts.
At least I have it now and it looks and feels spectacular, I'm glad I skipped shaving this morning so I will be able to shave as soon as I get home from work.
EDIT: Just had my first shave with it, it is every bit as phenomenal as I hoped it would be. I have been having a bit of difficulty building lather with a new cake of TGQ Sandalwood with my C&E BBB, but the LE built a fantastic lather with such ease. It felt perfect on my face, and not a hint of new badger funk. Simply outstanding, and thanks again to everyone at B&B who brought this to us. I'm just bummed I probably missed out on two weeks worth of shaves with this from not knowing my brush was so close, yet so far away.

This is one of the biggest gripes I have with FedEx. Apparently the sender needs to specify signature required for delivery--and most senders don't do this. That's the only way a package would be dropped off at an apartment's office instead of just being dropped at the doorstep or similar. It's been a crapshoot as to whether I get a doortag or not.
UPS, on the other hand, always drops the package off at the office if I don't answer the door when they come by (I work nights, and they almost never wake me up).

Well I finally got 1 of the 3, 2008 B&B LE Kent brushes. When I opened the parcel and my first impressions? The Kent presentation packaging is first rate and very pleasing and then, Oh??? The Kent brush is smaller than I expected. First reaction, I am disappointed in its' size and it reminded me so much of the size of my first beginner brush that I bought when I was 16 years old, but only with a slightly bigger knot. I wanted something bigger; But then again, I rather have a brush that is smaller then something too big. Recently, I learned the hard way that I am not a fan of big brushes. I 'am assuming it's a 20mm - 21mm knot and whatever its size, it's acceptable to me.
When I quickly got over its size, I began to look at the shape, the materials and workmanship, more like serious craftsmanship. It is absolutely stunning, its' a real work of art. It is art! No BS, it is the most appealing eye candy shaving brush that I laid my eye on; and I have seen just about everything. It has a vintage, very high class, top notch, and old world quality and craftsmanship look and feel to it.
When I first pick up this brush, there is no subtleness about it. This brush has the most perfect and positive balance and feel. My fingers naturally position itself comfortably to the curves of the handle. I can use more than one positions, thus reducing fatigue and also setting, adjusting and reflecting to whatever mood and energy that I may be in. The balance can best describe as a 45/55 balance ratio, with the fulcrum point slightly ahead to where my fingers rest, located at the ball of the handle; thus giving the brush an almost neutral, but slightly a brush end heaviness, balance and feel. I really don't like brushes that are mostly balanced and weighted at the back of the handle. This brush is designed for full feel and control, and without any fatigue. It is right at home with my large hands and I can only personally describe it as most perfect. For years I have been looking for a high end, high quality replacement brush that had a similar feel of a long wooden classic handle of my first brush. By a milestone, this Kent brush, without any intimacy, has already surpassed that comfort zone. Except for my personal desire for about a 2mm larger knot, overall, there is something so right and so perfect about this brush.
Now the first big question, is it worth $140 US? Compare to other Kent Brushes, DEFINATELY!!! From my research, I can personally say that if this brush was a Kent regular run of the mill line, it can be fetched at retailed for about up to $200, maybe $220 tops. Is it worth $300 US? Not unless it has a much bigger knot size or someone explains to me in its' finer details as to why it should cost so much. Honestly, I am not qualified or knowledgeable enough to really judge or criticize as how high the quality this Kent silvertip brush is and its’ price point. I just know what I am willing to pay and how well a shaving brush works for me.
The other most obvious big question is, how is it to shave? Don't know yet, after all what I said, I haven't tried it. My first shave and real test won't be till tomorrow morning and my ugly beard will be finally be removed. It is a Canadian Hockey tradition for a lot of players and there supporting fans, whose team are in the playoff, not to shave. It supposes to give them superstitious luck. Personally, it was my excuse not to shave, well maybe? I will write and post the initial progress and final results, after and when this fine Kent shaving brush has been finally and completely broken in, and been used by my collections of soaps and creams. Yes! Yes! So far, I am very pleased with this purchase.
Happy New Year and best regards

I finally just used creams for the first time since receiving this. What I'm really astounded by is how this just sucks up all the cream out of the lathering bowl, but easily distributes it back on the face. Soaps are obviously very nice with this, and I don't use creams often, but this really shines with creams as well.
Penhaligons EF soap was finally delivered to my door this morning.

FYI for all non-USA resident pre-purchasers, I received an e-mail from Nick today with instructions for completing my purchase. My order is now confirmed and if USPS, Canada Post and Canada Customs are true to form I expect to have my brush by 23 January.
Funny, I STILL havent heard from anyone.
