I define choking as holding it from a part considerably closer to the blade. I find that this gives a much better control over the razor compared to holding it from the bottom like a dart.
I am using vision 2000 - recently moved from futur after using it for 2-3 weeks.
Thanks guys.
No it is not necessary. Hold the razor whatever way works best for you. I have a futur and I like to hold it mid shaft.

I use my slant by holding it mid-shaft too, I find it harder to control when holding it too near the top or bottom.
But to each their own.
Holding a razor from the end is often recommended as you will be less likely to apply pressure to the razor. Try different holds and grips and do whatever is most comfortable and gives the best results.

Must resist comment...must resist...oh hell I hold my progress at the base mostly, this allows the most finness as I carve my way around curves.

Personally, i hold the razor at the very end of the handle for the majority of my shave, but when i get to the buffing+touch up to get the stray hairs i hold the razor directly under the head.

I hold my razor at the end of the handle for the reasons posted above, but the scary thing is, on more than one occasion, I accidentally turn the knob and open the doors (making for a jiggly blade) in less than a second.
So "if you hold the tip, beware the turn." :thumbup1:
