I almost purchased that T&H sampler but I wasn't sure how the packaging worked (being a pouch instead of a bottle). Let us know if you think it was worth the price?

It's HERE!
Tabac Original Luxury Bath Soap (http://cgi.ebay.com/1-x-Tabac-Original-Luxury-Bath-Soap-100g-with-Shell_W0QQitemZ250314402230QQihZ015QQcategoryZ887Q QtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem) ... just 13 calendar days since I placed my order. (Thanks, dridiot ... and the various members that pointed me to him in my quest for this awesome smelling soap!)
I still don't understand why a soap made in Germany has to be ordered all the way from Singapore just so I can indulge myself here in New Jersey ... but so it goes.
I also don't understand what compelled me to pay $16.99 (includes shipping) for a 100g bar of soap. But, I'm not complaining.
Is this a crazy hobby we have, or what?

This is a new acquisition, and to my mind, it may be the ultimate SE razor. The Ever-Ready Streamline Set with razor, stropper and strop. All NIB.
The razor is very heavy the finish is chrome and the quality of the workmanship is just superb.
Here's a picture of the razor (I cribbed this from a post by bpope62) he called it an Ever-ready Jewell.

Here are a couple of pictures of my set:

WOW..that SE looks stunning, in my view it just beat the G-Bar and took the first place. Nice score.
BTW The handle looks similar to the Star DE razor.

Rodd - do you have a date for the Gem ad? I have that box and razor, but not the razor blade dispenser, and have always wondered what the date was for it.

I just went down and checked. I don't think there is a date on it, but the bottom right corner has a 49 on it, no idea if that might be the year or what it might be, but no copyright or anything on it. Sorry!
Thanks for checking, rodd. Much appreciatedd.

Here is my newest 1921 Gillette Big Fellow in Silver. It needs a good cleaning but it's a fine way to close out the year for collecting.

I've got some tabac that Im trying for the first time. I also order some ralph lauren safari shave soap. A new shavemac 585 silvertip from the retro line. And a mint Gillette black adjustable. Sorry I can't post any pics right now. Also I found a gillette travel razor with a short handle brand new never used with a pack of old gillette blades still in the palstic wrapping. The head of the razor still has the original price of 1.50 wrote on it.

Nice Ray, that case looks to be in better than most condition.
I just won a little stash on the bay.
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x300/Hoos1492/aa60_12.jpg
The Richwood(?) which looks in terrible shape is the rare and elusive "inverted Gillette logo" Richwood. Almost as rare as a tan-tip Superspeed!
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x300/Hoos1492/ad28_12.jpg
However, the Aristocrat and the Red/Black both look to be in excellent condition. As is the autostropper. Which I don't know what I'll do with.

Just a normal flare tip.... except it's made in Mexico!!!
The case bottom says "Estuche Hecho en EUA" and "Distribudo por Compania Interamericana Gillette SA Colon, Panama"
I could not get a picture of the case to be legible in pictures. I had a hard time with the razor.

Nice looking razor, I like the newer knurling pattern better than the older all-vertical design.
Let us know how it shaves, most seem to think they are pretty aggressive - at least the open comb models.

A few generous samples were also included - Cremo Cream, Col Conks Lime Shaving Soap, JM Frasers Shaving Cream, and Wesley & Scott Orange Aftershave Balm.

Thanks Ray. It does look like that same razor. If so, I think this would be my first Big Fellow.
I kind of figured the Gillette logo was a repair goof. Seeing what that box looks like, it was pretty much what I figured. But the resale/collectible value of the "rare inverted Gillette logo boxed razor" has got to be higher than "Big Fellow in a broken box".

Very cool Bill! Did you ever figure anything out for footrests? I haven't seen anything on that chair for a while. The chair actually came with a foot stool rather than something that was an extension of the chair. I will have to try to recreate one when I can spend some time on it. There are parts that are missing from underneath that were the hardware pieces allowing the chair to tilt back. For whatever reasons, the family members removed them long ago and put screws through the frame to keep it from functioning that way again. I am going to pull the worn leather skin off of the velvet, remove that as well and then have it reupholstered. I just don't know if I should do it in leather or burgundy velvet as was the original chair.

Very best of luck with this project, it looks like a really worthwhile one. Do post a picture of it when you've got it done. Actually, if it isn't too much trouble, post a couple of it while the project is in progress.
The picture by the way is just great.

Well, I just got my package from Shaving Essentials yesterday. Cracked it open and saw the bowl of Tabac sitting front and center with a Spiek shaving stick to one side of it and the Ogalla Bay Rum and Sandlewood on the other. Also included were samples of J.M. Fraser Shaving Cream, Wesley & Scott Lavendar ASB (wonderful stuff), and Booster Oriental Spice AS Splash.
So far I've tried everything but the shaving sticks (saving those for travel) and everything is awesome so far. Also, I've got to give props to John who runs Shavingessentials.net. He's really a stand up guy, he e-mailed me to make sure my order was correct and was very cordial the entire time, and then when I opened my package there was a hand-written thank you note thanking me for my order. Really a great purchasing experience, I will not hesitate to order from John again.
Beautiful chair Bill :w00t:

My grandfather's Gillette has come my way! Not particularly old, an F 2 Fatboy adjustable, but a great bit to get. I just got it this evening, and haven't attempted any cleanup yet, but pics are below.
I also got either my grandfather or great-grandfather's old straight razor, which has broken scales, but is a great item to have! It is an H. Boker, complete with case (well used), that says "King Cutter" on the box, and has "Our Leader" engraved on the blade.
Edit: Apparently I don't know how to put in URLs without the board truncating them. I will work on that later.

Does that say abercrombie and fitch? If so, just cut random chunks of hair out, melt the handle, and throw up and or get paint on it. If it is sells like their jeans do, it will increase the value by at least 200%

HA!
Yup - Abercrombie & Fitch - back when their clientele was well-off men (adventurers - quite like B&B'ers) - not teen-age girls.

Couple days ago, I picked up two bottles of Aqua Velva Ice Balm after reading the posts about it being discontinued.
Today I bought a Schick N-1 and a Allegro Model-E blade stropper at a local antique mall. Allegro came with the box and all instructions for $3.50. It'll look pretty cool in my budding (?) collection.

Hey guys, I posted this as it's own thread so it wouldn't get lost amidst the other hordes of scores for the week.
I acquired this at a local antique mall the other day. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify it. It's a Gillette adjustable date stamped F1. It's in near mint condition. Silo doors work perfectly and adjustment dial clicks & locks without a hitch (sometimes they can get a little sloppy/loose i've noticed).....
anywho, I paid $5 for it, figured not too bad for as good of condition as it was in. All i did was soak it in some scrubbing bubbles for like 3 min, rinsed, dried, and snapped a picture or two.
look forward to your feedback. thanks guys!
scottydoint

You got yourself a 1960, first quarter Fatboy. One in that condition is easily worth $40, so $5 was a steal.

Nate, That's a fine looking Fatboy you have there. The numbers look crisp and there is no signs of brassing at all. The head looks to be in very good condition as well. Just make sure the blade sits straight and square.
I think you've done fantastic. Great job.

Got my maternal great-grandfather's safety razor today. It is manufactured in Canada, and is more or less a three piece razor, although the handle is hollow and the caps on both ends of the handle come off. No serial number or date code.

the handle in the gem junior case is for a 1930s-1940s auto strop razor. also, the ever ready head appears to be a 1908, 1909. one of those gem handles MIGHT fit it, but im not 100%

Dave,
Actually, since you mentioned it, the knurled handle from the Gem Damaskeen, will fit the Ever Ready head. However the other ones will not. The thread is just a touch larger. Thanks for the info on the gold handle, I knew it wasn't right, just had no idea where it came from. Just pulled out the Auto Strop, that I have had for a bit. The handle would fit, but the threads on the handle are all boogered up. You must do this for a living. Any idea if that head is a single edge or wedge head? I tried a single in it, but it just doesn't feel secure in the head. It does not have a safety bar, and I don't see where it could attach. I would hate to try it and have it shift while using it.

Here is a brush that I scored off of eBay a few days ago. I was worried when it came in because the dark band has a predominant reddish color to it. Does badger sometimes come red? The second pic is next to a Rooney 3/1 for compairrison.

I obviously posted a serious question in a comedy and slapstick thread by accident. So I take it that no one has seen badger hair with a reddish tint?

i made a joke in that thread, but i will say ive owned an ever ready boar brush that was DEEP RED. i think mine was dyed to match the handle though.
in the end i smashed it in a vice grip with a hammer.

13/16 WEDGE Marked "Elmo" (presumed English) beneath a stylized sunburst with a model number? 1512/34. Scales are flamed maple with a burl veneer. BST transaction via Retro Grouch/Mike. If anyone has any info on this blade's manufacturer, I would be interested. Shaved with it Saturday and Sunday after its arrival!

I love the handles on those bulldogs. Nice haul!
No kidding. Thay are the most beautiful of the vintage Gillettes in my opinion. I like the TTOs with this type of handle as well.
I just won a little stash on the bay.

UPDATE: Received these today. The stropper - I don't care about. But I have one now. So, eh. Now the razors:
The razor in the wooden box: The box is in really bad shape (duct taped shut at one time). The razor is useless as is: it's a 3-piece and the cap is wrong - the screw portion isn't long enough to reach the handle. The handle and base are fine. Though they need some clean up. I may have an extra cap with the long screw that will fit. I'll see. But seeing one of the Gillette wooden boxes and the craftsmanship is nice. The box has been treated like crap, yet you can still get a feel for the craftsmanship that went into it and what a beauty it must have been when new.
The Red/Black: razor is in poor but shaveable shape. The box is OK.
The Aristocrat: I am now the proud and happy owner of a second '46/'47 Aristocrat. The razor is in good shape and definitely usable. It may be in great shape depending on how the handle cleans up - not sure if it's dirt or paint or really bad pitting. The box is in OK shape.
But, I've wanted another '46/'47 Aristocrat that's shaveworthy. Collectible would have been great, but I'm really very happy with the outcome. It's exactly what I was hoping for (the other two being in great shape would have been icing on the cake).
