My acquisitions this week:

Vanderhagen Deluxe Shave Soap - picked up in Seattle this weekend (ran the Seattle Half Marathon)

today in the mail - one puck of Mitchell's Wool Fat - no bowl - I have some nice dry cherry wood in my shop I will turn tonight.

*** MASSIVELY IMPRESSIVE service from Shaving Essentials - great packaging and samples: a sliver of pre de provence soap, a sample of Creamo and sample of WARS cream, and a lightly mentholated shave balm.

For such a small order, I am seriously impressed... plus the nice thank you note. A true pleasure to deal with John et al at SE.

Wow. Wow.

Nice hauls!
Is your #58 aluminum? I heard that there was an aluminum 58.
I hope you are going to use that #66. They are amazing.
Is that 4 piece Canadian or English? I am looking for one with that type of knurling. Nice work!

MTGrayling has one, and from the moment I saw a picture of his, I knew I had to have one. There are a few on ebay NOS now I think, but out of my budget, so I was happy to see one that slid under the radar. Kind of seems strange that Gillette dipped in to the Injector world, but I like it.

Picked up these at a little antique store the other day for ten bucks. They were pretty dirty, but they all cleaned up well after a hot soak and a little labor with the toothbrush. (And a MAAS polishing thanks to the ShaveWiki instructions)

The Blue-tip Superspeed is in very nice condition, as is the open comb. The other old Gillette has some brassing on the handle, though. Now I need to figure out what models these old ones are!

Nice Rodd. I call the next #58 case:biggrin: Is there any difference in the Rocket case and a SS case?

Thanks! I haven't looked really close at the cases and am away from home, do the SS cases have the dip for the flare? The only way I know for sure that it is for an English razor is that it says "made in England" on the bottom. I really was hoping it was in better condition, but at least it is something.

Scott, I can solve your problem with the caseless aluminum 58. Send it to me, I will put it in my case.

I've been wondering that myself. You could always try lip balm containers (the little plastic jars). Those seem to be the ideal size.

Didn't make any shave related purchases this week, but Saturday my free soap from Susie's weekly newbies giveaway arrived in the mail. Autumn Wreath scent and when I opened it I was reminded of the smell of the candles my Mom used to burn around Christmas when I was growing up, all evergreen and spicy.

Looking forward to using it soon, as I have read great things about Susie's soaps on the forums and in reviews.

Thanks again for taking the time to do this as a welcome to newbies here each week Sue!

The other day my pops "handed" down these two straights to me. They've been in the family, from what I understand, quite a while. They were his grandfather's who used them to make some extra cash after WWII in Germany. He passed away in 1950 so the story goes.

Nice scores, Echo! I especially like that honkin' W&B Wedge. I've been trying to find one like that for a long time to do a full restoration on, but they go for so much on the Bay...As for rescaling and such, you might ask over at SRP, there are some gentlemen who do excellent work over there.

Just bagged this:

It is supposedly a replica WWII german luftwaffe (airforce) shaving set.

The razor looks to be a Merkur 1904 - a nice little razor as far as I has been told.

The brush looks nice aswell, but the auction lacked any information regarding materials.

The big question is whether the razor automatically leaves a tiny little moustache on my upper lip :tongue_sm

Regards.

Other than a few marks on the blade it appears to have never used. Very easy to hone. I'll give it a spin tomorrow morning.

I was pleased (and surprised) to find two WWII GI razors today. These do not come with the Bakelite box. The razors are Bakelite handles, steel head/comb, and one Gillette blade wrapped in a thin, tissue-lie wrapping paper. (The Bakelite box would not have fit in these cardboard boxes - I compared the sizes.)

There are two different stock numbers and the printing on the box is in different colors (one in blue; the other in black), but I don't know what the differentiation is.

The guy threw in the pack of blades (because I laughed at their name - The Invalid Patent?? or is it "The Invalid"??) which are made of Sheffield steel.

Scottish Shaving Soap binge for me, one from the Highland Soap Company and one from the Shetland Soap Company.

How did you Scottish shaving soap binge turn out? I've been waiting for a couple reviews to help decide if I want to order some myself. I guess I should find out also if they'll ship across the pond.

Cheers,

Kevin
