View Full Version : Lucky Tiger Shaving Lotion

On impulse, while at a niche drug store, I saw a bottle of Lucky Tiger Shaving Lotion. (the only LT product they had on the shelf.) Thinking it was an a/s balm, I purchased it. I was disappointed this morning when I read the label and realized it was a shaving cream. The package label said it could be applied straight, or with a brush. I was ready to return it, but decided to give it a try.
I squirted a very small amount of the lotion into my mug, and began working it up with my super badger brush. ( I forget the brand, I've had it so long --over 25 years--all markings have worn off.) I have never seen such lather in my life! The quantity was astounding--as I worked the brush and pumped it up and down a few times, the lather kept pouring out of my mug. I simply couldn't believe what I was seeing. finally, I decided to put it on my face. Warm, wet, comfortable, with a mild citrus scent. My guess was that it would be a rather limp, entirely too wet product, but I was shocked when I realized that this lather has some of the best structure I've ever seen. It went on my face and stayed there. Two minutes later, it was still in place with no visible signs of breakdown. The squeeze test on the brush produced even more moist, well-structured lather.
Then the shave. first pass with the Merkur Slant. Incredibly smooth, slick, well lubricated. I had to work a bit to control the razor to ensure that it didn't go too fast. After the first pass, a quick rinse and an examination. Far less stubble than I ordinarily get. Applying more lather (plenty left on brush and in mug) and make second pass with Merkur Futur. The job was done and my face was as smooth as I've ever seen it.
While a few days will need to pass before I can assess the full moisturizing ability of this product, I can state without a moment's hesitation that this is the best lather I have ever produced-it worked up in no time at all, was as wet as I have ever imagined a lather to be, and had excellent structure. The shave, as noted above, was smooth and slick with absolutely no nicks.
Now as to where to find the product, that may be a bit more difficult. Lucky Tiger (http://getluckytiger.com/osproducts.html)'s own website doesn't list the product at all. Nordstrom (http://shop.nordstrom.com/SR?KeyWord=Lucky+Tiger&searchorigin=KeywordSearch)'s carries a decent range of Lucky Tiger products including something called Liquid Cream Shave and this may in fact be the same product under a different label althought they claim it is a Nordstrom exclusive.
Note: this is not the same as their brushless shave which is a cream that is applied straight just before shaving. This is a true shaving lather but unlike any I've ever seen before. You can find the same product at Zooscape (http://www.zooscape.com/cgi-bin/maitred/ZooRide?jornada=30423499&specie=US&visa=&partner=&disentangle=2&depth=8&fountainhead=&zooride=lucky+tiger&Find.x=0&Find.y=0).
All in all I would highly recommend this product for its excellent, wet and well structured lather. It provides excellent lubrication and a:thumbup1: n extremely smooth shave. See my ratings here (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?p=76829#post76829).

You can also pick up the full range of Lucky Tiger products at Whole Foods. I've seen them, & been curious, but never actually purchased any. After your review they made it to the must have list. Of course I have to finish off the Trumpers & Nancy Boy tubs, & then try about 4 other creams on the list first....Okay, this is just gettin' out of hand.

I stopped by Nordstrom today, and they had a little sample pack containing a small package of Lucky Tiger Liquid Cream Shave and a small package of Lucky Tiger Face Moisturizer.
Although the instructions on the back of the shave cream said to apply it directly to the face, I squeezed it into my bowl, added a bit of water, and had at it with my brush. Although it took a bit more work than normal, it generated a generous amount of lather. The lather had a slight, pleasant, citrus scent...more like orange than lime. I used my HD with a Wal-Mart Personna and did my usual four pass routine.
This stuff worked great! It was as comfortable a shave as I've yet gotten from any product I've tried. The lather was cushiony and provided good lubrication.
After my shave I rinsed, applied alum block, rinsed that off, applied some witch hazel, and then used the Lucky Tiger Face Moisturizer. When squeezed out of its package, it had the consistency of Neutrogena, but when I applied it to my face it instantly melted into a very wet, milky balm. It left my face silky smooth. I couldn't discern any particular scent to this stuff, although my wife said she thought it smelled like suntan lotion.
All in all, I'd say these two products are winners, but, as always, YMMV.

Lucky Tiger.
Just saw this stuff in the nordstrom today. They had some displays that you could test out. I tried the Lucky Tiger after shave and face tonic. It was more like using essential oil than after shave. Very moisturizing. It has no Alcohol and contains "organic" aloe vera, Calendula Chamomile, Vitamins A and E, and Borage Oil.
It seemd very moisturizing. I did not care to much for the Orange "cleaner" smell, but it seemed to go away rather quickly. Nordstroms was selling it for $19.00 and it appears that it would last quite a long time.
I did not purchase it as I went for the T&H 1805 cream and after shave, SWMBO was with me or I probably would have purchased it.

I have been using Lucky Tiger shaving lotion and the LT after shave for about a month now after some random guy at B&B recommended it to people with sensitive skin. I have senisitive skin and most creams I've tried have caused irritation. But not Lucky Tiger. I love everything about these products. The nice old school bottles, the citrus scent, no irritaion what so ever, the lather, the lather, the lather, it is so easy to get wonderful lather. Like ravkesef said "I have never seen such lather in my life!".
The after shave is also really nice, but perhaps not moisturizing enough in the cold winter months. I use this after shave togheter with a swedish after shave that is made out of rapeseed oil and finish up with a moisturizer also made out of rapseed oil, and my face looks so incredible babysmooth and healthy.
I really have nothing negative to say about Lucky Tiger.

I was just looking to see which one this is. Is it the Lucky Tiger Liquid Cream shave here:
Or this Lucky Tiger Molle Brushless Shave Cream here:

Or neither?

It's the first link. Buy it, you won't regreat it.
I got two samples from a member here as part of a brush buy, and finally tried one of the samples yesterday. It says on the package that you should use it brushless, but with people here posting about using it with a brush I went ahead and did that. I really got ridiculous amounts of lather, for someone who just lathers up twice I could have shaved several times over with what I got from one sample packet.
Definitely interesting stuff, I wasn't sure when I saw the liquid dripping out of the packet, but it really works like a charm, and the warm citrus scent is very pleasant as well.

Even though their proprietary stuff kind of sucks, Caswell Massey carries the full line of Lucky Tiger products and there isn't a horrible markup.
By the way, they also carry the Musgo Real line too.

ebarbershop.com has it for $8.50. Everyplace else I looked had it for 18.50.
I ordered some from them, we will see if the price is right or not!

I picked some of this up at Nordstrom over the weekend with the intent of using it brushless on those rare occasions (:biggrin1: ) when I happen to be running late in the morning.
Fortuitously enough, this morning was one of those days... with about 5 minutes to spare I decided to forgo the usual MWF/Superspeed combo and grabbed the Lucky Tiger and a Sensor (I know, I know) from my travel kit.
The stuff looks like moisturizer or hand lotion, but makes a nice slick brushless lather. Nice, inoffensive scent. Much, much slicker than, say, Musgo or Proraso when smeared on your face (according to the directions on the tube, mind you). End result? I had a nice close shave in about 2 minutes. Cool water rinse and splashed on some Lucky Tiger Aspen, to keep it in the family (from perusing the bottles, it doesn't appear that there's actually any relationship between the old-school Lucky Tiger stuff you get at barbershops and the nu-skool fancy stuff at Nordstrom).
So, yeah, it's great stuff. Well worth keeping around. I look forward to trying it with an injector next. A 3oz bottle for airplanes would be totally awesome.

I saw this stuff at Ulta this evening. (Have to keep the wife happy and shop with her from time to time.) I didn't buy any but judging by the posts I'm reading I'll have to pick some of this up the next time we're in there and give it a try. Here's a link to Lucky Tiger shave lotion on Ulta's website. $18.50 is a little high for 5 oz of cream but if a little goes a long way as claimed it may be a wash.

I picked up the Liquid Shave Cream at Caswell Massey, and I love it! I'll have to check Whole Foods or Nordstrom, because I would like to try their other products too.

I looked at those links. Do I understand correctly that the Liquid Cream Shave is a Casswell-Massey product, and that the Brushless Shave Cream is not? Any difference between the two, quality-wise? Somehow, I always thought that the Lucky Tiger stuff that is mentioned in many of the other threads in this forum belong to the second (Molle Brushless Shave Cream) family.

The Lucky Tiger I am familiar with is the Liquid Cream - this is the first I have seen the brushless, and I don't think they sell it at Caswell-Massey.
Just found the web sites. Here is the one sold at Nordstrom and others:
http://www.luckytiger.net/home.html
And here is the brushless:

Looks like two separate companies.

They are actually the same company. They call the line of aftershaves, creams and the brushless stuff the Classic line.
If you check the contact info on both websites, they are the same address.

Well, I broke down and picked up a bottle of this for $18.50 at Ulta. Shaved with it twice. It's just "Ok" for me. It's no Proraso. Shaves about like KMF for me. Not the Holy Grail but I'll keep it in my rotation.

I'm getting pretty interested in this shaving cream, having seen one downtown recently and of course, pretty positive reviews from users here.
Is this suppose to be an organic shaving cream? Does anyone has the ingredients list?
All i found from the web are they contains the following: Organic olive fruit oil, Organic calendula, Organic chamomile. Is that all?
Thanks to anybody who can help, in advance.

I was a little pressed for time this morning (who keeps hitting that snooze button??? ) so I grabbed a Sensor out of my travel kit and the bottle of Lucky Tiger. My verdict remains the same:
Guys, if you can use a Sensor/M3/etc. without being overcome by waves of guilt and shame for having abandoned (if only temporarily!) the sweet embraces of your DE, the Lucky Tiger/cartridge combo makes for a perfect quickie rig. Honestly, the whole shave took about 3 minutes (smear on lotion, shave, rinse, splash) and unless your co-workers are taken to rubbing your face and inspecting your jawline with a loupe, the results are great.

Randy: I have looked on the ebarbershop site and can't find any Lucky Tiger. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place, but can you please give a link to the Lucky Tiger site selling LT for $8.50? That's a much better price than other places where I have seen it for $18 or more.
I bought some at Nordstroms a couple months ago and was rather unimpressed.
The comments here have re-interested me enough to give it another shot. Thanks to each.

Personally, I've found it really shines with a good cartridge, but it's not so great with a DE. Fantastic for travel, though.

I just checked and it looks like ebarbershop has removed the Lucky Tiger cream from their site. I am glad I got one for $8.50

You can get it from the manufacturer, but I don't know what they charge for shipping:

I've bought several Lucky Tiger products (face wash, face scrub & face tonic) and I really like them. I buy them at Vitacost.com at a considerable discount. I have the shave cream but haven't tried it yet because I have so many others to go through. Sometime soon.

Health Superstore also carries Lucky Tiger at a significant discount; Link. (http://www.healthsuperstore.com/ds.htm?kw=lucky%20tiger&page=1&cx=013070871113428970993%3Ag6sibg5rsrw&cof=FORID%3A11&filter=1&q=lucky%20tiger&sa=GO#673)
I've become a big fan of Lucky Tiger, especially for the price. I've replaced my Kiehl's stuff with Lucky Tiger at a signifcantly lower price-point and have not missed a beat. I really like Lucky Tiger face wash and aftershave face tonic. I've also been using the facial moisturizer during the winter because it contains shea butter but plan on moving back to a Kiehl's facial fuel for the summer since its a lighter moisturizer. I bought a tin that contained all of these products, including the shave cream which I have not tried yet but plan on using it when I travel. I've been impressed with the quality of Lucky Tiger.
