I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a 1/1. But I'm having a little trouble deciding on the hair.

I want it to be firm and a little scrubby, but not abrasive. That is to say, that I can feel the soap being worked into my beard in a positive way.

I was looking at Classic Shavings "best badger," but am concerned it may be a little too rough.

Then I was looking at Vintage Blades' finest silvertip, but am concerned it may be too soft.

I'm leaning towards Vintage Blades' super silvertip; hoping it is soft, but (with the shorter loft) still firm.

I've never had a Rooney before, and would appreciate any input.

Thanks!

I can tell you the Finest is a firm scrubbing machine. It has a great deal of backbone and I LOVE IT. If you think it might be a bit to scritchy, I would go with super silvertip.

I've got a Rooney 1/1 in "Pure Badger". I found some info on a thread somewhere on here that it was the same quality as the "Best Badger" only that it hadn't been as carefully sorted by color. I love it. I don't find it scratchy at all. However, I use it with soaps. I haven't used many creams at all. It is a great brush.

This thread contains a photo of my Rooney 3/1 in Super Silvertip (2nd highest grade) and in pure badger (lowest grade).

The pure badger works great and is not scratchy at all.

You'll be happy with either one.
