I've always had a fascination with the shaving brush. I remember my dad used to have one when I was growing up, but he eventually switched to shaving gel. I followed suit by using shaving gel (for bad skin as a teen) and gradually worked my way up to Mach3 Turbo blades, never really getting a great shave, and always peeved about how much I was spending on replacements.

Almost exactly 1 year ago, I started researching shaving methods, and came across wetshaving. I thought, "I might just try the brush and soap, and see how that goes". In came the el cheapo brush and a tin of Pre de Provence Shea Butter shaving soap. FANTASTIC! But, I was still getting irritation.

One week later, I bought my DE razor. After a week or two of bloodletting and beard-growing, I started to get the hang of it. After 2 months, the shaving bumps disappeared, and no more raw skin. This was the answer, and made me look good in my wedding photos (March 4, 2006).

I've since tried selling the idea to some friends, and I have one who is getting married next year with the same type of beard as me who may be getting his own DE soon.

Mach3 - in the garbage
Edge Gel - in the garbage
Money - in my pocket
Smooth shave - on my face

Looks as though I'm in good company here. Thanks to Leisureguy reminding me of this site. I haven't been here (as a lurker) in almost a year.

Thanks for the greetings, everyone. And either "Whopper" or "Larry" is fine by me. I'll answer to both.

I want to thank all of you here for the great advice that you have given. My shaving has improved significantly in the short time that I have been on this forum.
