The striped one is platinum and rubber.

Personally, I would go with the plain silver and black. The design on the second (the checked pattern) is a little too busy; especially when considering the small space it's on. And, it reminds me of golf pants.

I like the top one better.

It looks like the bottom one may have a better tip but I think the top one looks more professional.

Both are nice, tough decision.
That is my dilemna: one is discreet, the top one, and no arguments, and one is modern, edgy, tactile, heavy and different, the bottom one. The bottom one is like $50 retail more than the top one.
I had thought of some Visconti's but another forumite mentioned the top one and it is growing on me. I actually got to hold a ballpoint in the top one and the tactile-feel of it was good.
Tough call.

I vote bottom since I have 2, one is the fine liner and a roller ball. I don't really care for ribbed look.

Cross - I just don't get why folks spend Montblanc prices on ballpoints.
(FYI, after a disastrous experience with one of their rollerballs (the thing basically fell apart and the company wouldn't do anything for me), I can't recommend any of their products).
On the Starwalker pens specifically, a friend had part of the pen break (through ordinary use) but they still made him pay about $100 for the replacement part - tough choice, spend 100$ or have a useless $300 pen...

Ewww neither! I don't mean to be rude, but you can do much better than either one of those.
PS Montblancs are horribly overrated!
I'd go for the top one. I prefer it's shape at the bottom toward the nib.

If it was me I'd get this one. It's the Herald from http://edisonpen.com. But get waht you like and like what you get. It is also available in a rolerball if you prefer that.

Here's another vote for neither. They look like several hundred dollar Pilot G2s or Bics, especially the bottom one.
I'd try to find something more fountain pen like: streamlined, without the funky grippy bulges.
If not, the top one, since it's a lot less goofy looking.

That's funny, I've never heard a grown man say "Ewww" before.
Montblancs are good pens, but very overpriced.

Very attractive, classic designs - but, I'd never spend a couple of hundred dollars on a steel-nibbed FP.

Not a problem, you can get one with a gold nib and gold trim. Several options on these pens.
I ended up with the top pen, and it might arrive today!!!!!!!

Which brings the price of one of these up to $300 - into Pelikan 800 territory.
Well, the pen arrived today and I like how it is not a light pen but it also is not heavy. It looks better in person than in pics, and it looks great when it is away from other pens. You dont end up comparing it with another. Sometimes, all black pens can be so dark and draconian and even utilitarian. The ribbing and the silver cap end up as a nice contrast.
Now I think I am selling my Visconti Maxi Van Gogh roller.

Sam...can you post a photo of the newly arrived pen? I know the photo is in the original post, but I'd like to see it in relation to the Visconti (or something else) to get a feel for the size, etc.
Sure.

Thanks. I listed the bottom one in the sales forum, the Visconti
