I thought it would be interesting to track hairs lost in our shave brushes. I know it concerns most people when a hair falls out of your brush (far after the brush is new).

I figure you can post the number, and the brush. So today I lost a single hair from my Kent BK4 (has been losing hairs for the past few months, usually 1 ever 2-3 shaves).

I lose about one hair a week with my Art of Shaving brush (the $50 one).

Note:
I also shave my whole head so it gets a little more use than someone who shaves just their face.

I've lost 30-40 out of my Rooney 3,1 so far that I got on October 1st. I combed it out last night like Classic Shaving recommended. If that doesn't fix the problem I'm sending it back.

My Kent Bk4 lost three or four when I first started using it, but hasn't lost one since and I've had it about a year. Same thing with my C&E Best.

None of my brushes are very old, the oldest was bought in early 2007 and the latest was bought last spring. But here's the tally:

Shavemac 429 - 1 hair
Rooney 3/1 - approx. 50 hairs over several weeks, then stopped completely.
Rooney 1/2 - 5 hairs
Rooney 2/1 - 3 hairs
Simpson Tulip (pre-Vulfix) - 0, zero, zip, nada!

I am sure this brush is up to something close to 40 by now.

Lost two hairs this morning as well! The odd part was one was from the inside of the knot (normal), while the other fell off the side?

9 hairs lost since thread started.

Switched over to my recently purchased C&E Super Badger. Lathered up with it 5 times so far. Not a single hair lost. Go EJ!

I've lost 5-10 hairs out of my Vulfix 2197 so far. Probably about 10 shaves on it so far.

1 - C&E Super

After shaving for about 2 weeks with my new C&E/EJ Super Badger in ebony/nickel, it shed its first hair. Not bad.

For some reason, my Duke 3 has turned into a shedder, dropping 4 or 5 every shave...

Omega "Peachy" Silvertip Brush, two weeks old, maybe a dozen shaves on it and lost about 2 or 3 hairs the first 2 or 3 times shaving and then nothing ever since.

Likewise. The C&E/EJ Superbadger I have been using has not shed a single hair so far.

OTOH, my Col Conk (made by Vulfix) Pure Badger sheds a hair or two every week.

If it's not too old and you bought it new, I'd contact your vendor. I did and I got mine replace. I had a Duke 1 that after a few weeks starting dropping hairs like crazy. Thankfully my replacement has been a tank (knock on wood)

It has been months (5 or so) since the last time any of my brushes lost a hair....
I have 2 C&E and a Muhle-Pinsel
Out of those, only 1 C&E lost hairs like crazy - 20 more or less. The others might have lost between 4 and 8. I probably have had the same brushes since at least last dec. If only I had the same luck... :frown2:

I did that very thing and got a response within the hour......most of the vendors catering to our little hobby are definitely on the job!

I wonder if Kent would do this to a brush that is second hand and about a year old? My poor BK4 is a shedder. On the other hand I sometimes worry the replacement's hair wouldn't be as soft.
