Won this on the 'bay today:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=260299858653#ebayphotohosting
Anyone know anything about it? I took a gamble as I didn't want to pay too much for a first straight (I have very sensitive skin so it probably won't agree with me, but I want to give it a shot all the same), but the thinking elsewhere is it might be a cheap Pakistani job.
Didn't look the same as any of the other Pakistani razors I've seen on there, but then I know nothing about straights.

How's the ShaveKing holding up? I've never heard of that make of razor, and given the price you'd probably be wise not to expect too much. Still, I bet the first of us to order a Wapi or a Double Arrow thought much the same thing, so who knows? Anyway, I'll bet you get your money's worth out of the strop.

Ahh, Graham - no word of a lie, the Shaveking is probably my favourite DE (thank you again). It's a toss-up between that and my 60s flaretip superspeed.
Guess I'll just have to wait and see. I thought the strop looked pretty good too, compared to those Zeepks, but even though it says leather, given the price, I am prepared for something that isn't.
I just thought there might be a possibility that it was actually a half decent razor - looking at the rest of the seller's items it's all very non-shaving related, and they spelt Solingen wrong, so I thought maybe, just maybe, the seller didn't realise what they had. Well, like I said it was a gamble from the off, so if it pays off great, if it doesn't then I won't be too disappointed.

The seller didn't take any good photos of the blade. The case says Solingen but for all we know, the case is from Germany and the razor and strop are from Pakistan. It was a fairly cheap buy so hopefully, there's something redeeming about either the razor or strop. Let us know.

I can confirm the razor is indeed terrible and almost certainly a Pakistani job. Can't really blame the seller as the description was accurate in that it looks nice and clearly has hardly been used and, going by the seller's other items, I'm not sure they really knew much about it. I figure I'm gonna use it to practice stropping and honing and then when I've got that down, PIF it to a newbie as a stropping/honing practice razor only.
The good news is the strop seems to be really good. The only mark on there is 'Rockwood' near the top, so I don't know if that's Pakistani or not, but it's genuine leather, hand stitched and has a tough swivel head on the top, so I reckon that alone is probably worth the money. My only complaint with the strop is it's probably a travel one cos it's quite narrow and short, but as a newbie I guess it would pay for me to learn to do a proper x-pattern strop.
The other good news is that I was given a Dovo Best Quality by a work colleague absolutely free (he was given it for his birthday, but as an electric shaver user he was never gonna use it.....don't think he realised how much it's worth either, but I bought him a couple of pints in return), and I scored another cheapo razor off the 'bay, this time a vintage 'Right-Away' (made in Germany) which is in darn good nick for nearly 100 years old and only needs a clean, a light hone and some stropping. And how much did I get it for? £3 plus post and packing.

Outstanding!
Have fun, and let us know how it goes.
