I know this subject has been touched on here before, but an archive search turned up nothing too in-depth, so let me hit it again.

This morning I woke up, um, not at home and grabbed my shave gear to get ready for a clean-faced day. The water quality was noticably different from what I shave in at home and I got a very, very unsatisfactory shave as a result- burn, bumps and remaindered stubble abounded. Nothing else was different from my usual technique or set-up- just the water. Today's shave: Gillette adjustible, Kiss my Face shave cream, Autruche brush. I'd even let conditioner sit in my beard for the duration of my 15-minute shower.

Some of you have talked about shaving with hard water before, and have mentioned shaving with bottled water as an alternative. How do you guys handle that? Do you pre-soak your beards with a bottled water-dipped towel, or just use it on the brush and for the rinse between passes?

Thanks in advance...

Just heat the bottled water and use it to soak your brush for making the lather. You should be able to soak and rinse your face using your regular water but the hard water makes it difficult in creating the desired lather.

Are you sure you weren't just, um, distracted?

Hard water makes a big difference particularly if you're not used to dealing with it. Bottled water, unless it is demineralised, tends to have even more solids in than hard tap water.

has anyone experimented with different bottled waters.....just curious if aquafina, ozarka, evian, or disani makes for better lather......

When you're not at home, you should, um, love the water you're with......

If you can't be with the water you love.

One teaspoon of Borax into half gallon of water = soft water
