Franklin, TN (http://www.historicfranklin.com/) is just 15 minutes south on I-65. A little historic town with nice shops and restaurants. There is a Civil War battle ground there and an estate (Carnton?) that was used as a makeshift hospital after the battle. There is a sizable graveyard there given that it was just a plantation. I'll actually be in Franklin the following weekend for Pumpkinfest.

Not long before the Franklin exit going south is Cool Springs area. A large mall with lots of other shopping plus a large selection of restaurants.

In Nashville there is Opry Mills, a huge mall with more than I can remember. There should be a plenty of live music whether you want a concert, or live music in a club. I would check out the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau (http://www.visitmusiccity.com/) to see what's happening and what there is to offer.

Short of the usual mall fare like Crabtree & Evelyn and Body Shop, I've never found much in the way of shaving related shopping there. Perhaps someone else will chime in.

Corky's isn't too bad either.

One place I would highly recommend is Bread & Company (http://www.breadandcompany.com/) for a sandwich or coffee and baked goods if it's breakfast/snack time. It's what the likes of Panara Bread aspire to. It strictly a local restaurant with four or so locations.

still in nashville.so far we have ate at some generic places and some local places: Jacks bbq -all was good except for the turkey.Cuisine of India--excellant curry and the lamb vindloo was not bad either.and the sleeper was---Sams Sushi,a hole in the wall one man operation with low prices and large portions(3 tables and 2 5 foot counters).sam, a middle aged japanese fellow served up sushi rolls as big around as some radiator hoses.i ordered a bowl of dumpling soup expecting a standard size bowl-nooo.sam brought out 2 empty bowls and a 2 quart pot 3/4 full straight from the stove, for a princely sum of $3.50.for my wife and i had 2 large sushi rolls ,2 mackeral hand rolls and the soup w/drinks was 12$.and Sam refused a 5$ tip.

I went to Vanderbilt 1975-1979, so I have a little different perspective (forever a student :001_smile).

IMO, a trip to Nashville isn't complete without visiting Elliston Place Soda Shop (good food and great ice cream stuff with that old diner/soda shop look) or Rotier's Restaurant (small bottle Cokes and great sandwich and dinner fare - family owned and operated since the earth was cooling). Both Nashville landmarks.

Google both for location. I have a prefernece for Rotier's as it was walking distance from Vandy - Elliston place is, too, but it's a longer walk. :001_smile

Belle Meade Plantation is supposed to be a nice touristy thing, but I've never been there. The Parthenon (full scale replica of what the original supposedly looked like, built for Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition) in Centennial Park is also nice for sightseeing. Houses a small art museum, and a full size statue of Athena.
