Cool! I picked this up over the weekend.

Sorry, I know that I already posted this in the Speakeasy...but what the hay!

Cool vac pot. I haven't had a chance to try the glass rods yet - I just use the cloth filters on my Yama. I'll have to add them on my list of things to try.

Scotto,
If you look on that popular auction site....they can be had for 6-8 bucks plus shipping. I do really like the coffee I brew better using the glass rods over the cloth filters.

John,
I'm not sure how fine a grind you are using with the cloth filters, but you may find that you need to go with a slightly coarser grind with the glass rods.

DJ, can you use the glass rod in a Yama or does it just fit in the Cory pots?

I have a memory that the "Green City Peak (http://half-dipper.blogspot.com/2008/05/2005-mengku-chengguan.html)" was pretty good. For some reason, I have three cakes of it, so I guess it must have been!

I noted mushrooms, apparently. Let us know how you get on! Maybe I'll crack into it tomorrow.

If you ever visit Hong Kong, be sure to go into the "Best Tea House Company" store on Peking Road in Kowloon. The company is fairly new (1980s) but the owner Mr. Chan really embraced the traditions of good tea. His commitment to quality made the brand very popular in the short time they've been around. They host a tea seminar when the Semester at Sea ship comes to Hong Kong, and that's spread their popularity world-wide. They now have a few stores including a branch in Canada. They even have a website now. The tea is incredible.

My personal favorite is their oolong variety called "Golden Bush" (I know I know ).

Edit to add link to their English website!

Indeed a nice pot. That one could serve many people gongfu-style. Since I am the only pu'er drinker in the house ("stinky tea", my wife and kids call it), I stick with about 100mL. That is enough to keep things nice and hot between infusions, and not be too wasteful of leaf.

Enjoy it!

I have a cute Taiwanese dragon egg shaped pot that's ~250ml. I used to think it was too small to use, but now I find it's twice as big as it should be.

I think I've become physically addicted to pu'er.

How do you plan to brew those?

All 3 are ground for my bodum french press, I am enjoying some of the El Salvador El Bourbollon right now. 1st time in my life I have not wanted sugar in my coffee. This place is dangerous, it makes you appreciate things you never thought you needed to appreciate before! And of course spend the cash to go along with it!

New roaster replacing my Precision. I'm digging the larger 1 cup batch size. Haven't played around with the custom temp curve option yet.

I was looking at the gene cafe. It looks like a neat machine and I like the controls but I was nervous about the chance of clogging up the chaff collector. I roast alot of chaff-heavy dry processed beans. Have you had any problems with this?

The chaff collector is massive, especially if you get the one which you can vent outside. No worries.

One of the cool things about pu'er is how darn big some of the leaves are, especially if you are careful about prying them off the cake:

The dragon egg is a faux yixing from Taiwan (very well made, though). Got it at Ten for $38 about seven years ago. It's ~250ml, so it makes one nice sized cup, although I've been leaning (pushed?) towards the smaller ones recently. I have a bunch of larger yixings, ~350-400ml. Don't use them much anymore.

I reduced the pic to 640x480 for the sake of bandwidth, so I'm not sure it captures the lovely tri-color look of the Hiromoto: polished edge, patina'd (not even going to guess how to spell that word) carbon core, and crappy stainless cladding. It's probably my favorite knife.

Right, I'm going kitchen knife shopping tomorrow, I have an ebay bid on a coffee grinder, 3 cakes from scott on the way and roasted beans coming out of my ears. This forum has a lot to answer for. I didn't know there was that much good stuff out there until I started sampling it all.

Nice knife and you do get a sense of the patina from the picture.

Korin has a nice sale going on the western-style hammered Togiharus - any thoughts on these babies?

I see the gyuto is the only one not on sale. Of the rest, the usuba seems the most appealing. The last time I was there, I saw some of them, and they looked pretty good. I'm not a big fan of the hand hammered look in general, but the Togis seem to have very good fit and finish.

My old drip coffee amker was on it's last legs so we were out today and my wife says"Take a look at this" It's a Cuisinart coffee maker with built in grinder, but the price can't be right. A hundred dollar maker for $29.99? Yup, it's righ, and SWMBO say she can tolerate in the kitchen! Yippee! It was even an extra 15% off if we used the Kohl's credit card. And is it ever sweet! The grinder will only be used when she's already awake, but I can sure live with that.
