So I tried a feather today. I had actually tried one once before, but I nicked the crap out of my face at the first stroke and gave up on it immediately. Today, figuring my technique had improved, I gave it another go.
I used MWF as usual, and I did end up getting the closest shave I've had since I started this gig, but...
It didn't feel right. There was more irritation than I've had before with MWF, and, welll...The blade didn't really seem to glide like they usually do. I was very, VERY careful about pressure and angle, as I fear and respect the feather, but it really seemed to negate the positive aspects of the Fat. Is this normal? Is this the "sharpness" that people are always going on about?

It felt more like I was scraping than shearing, of that sounds right, even with the angle as sharp as I could make it. Any similar experiences?

I might have some feathers up for trade if this keeps up...

YMMV of course, but when one gets it right with the feather, you usually feel that the razor has just glided down the skin without cutting, but the whiskers are gone and you have a very close, smooth shave. It nicks and cuts bumps, snagged or insufficiently stretched skin with the same efficiency it slices through whiskers. Angle (and only light pressure) is the key as always.

This is my biggest beef with Feathers. You get the glide feeling even if you don't get it right. There's effectively no feedback loop. If I get it right with an IP, I hear the satisfying 'skrrr' of the blade cutting hair; not so with a Feather.

In the Vision (or Futur) I guess you may get feedback.

The only sound when I tried IPs was my shrieking as they tried to pull whiskers out by the root :-)
