Shave:

EJ Best Badger
Roger & Gallet's shaving soap
Nivea Extra Mild AS balm
SOFRI Cool Concentrated Moisturizing balm
Tommy Hilfiger Freedom Eau De Toillette
An enjoyable shave but now I know for sure that my Derby's will only be used for 4 days. The 5th shave was pulling a bit. I then switched over to a new Sharp blade but the pulling remained. I will try the same blade tomorrow and if necessary another one, but I'm not really experiencing the smoothness the other shavers are experiencing. I'll report again tomorrow. :001_smile

It's been a long learning curve- all delightfull of course.
But this Morning's shave was surprise - when I rubbed on the Baxters ASB- a smooth face- everywhere - under the chin and along the jaw..I couldn't believe it.
Merkur Progress - finally figured out the settings.(crank it all the way then back off) with a Derby blade.
Coral skin food - before ech pass of the lather.
Mr.Taylors shave cream sampler from Scotto- great lather.
Silvertip Badger brush - travel type (I was at the gym)
QED DaVinci water.
Baxters ASB and
Pinau Clubman A/S - wow
I have'nt felt my face this smooth for 35 years..

I purchased the C&M after shave gel at a local shop, it was on sale so maybe it has been discontinued. I do like the ASG, it is nice and light, and not greasy at all.
Cheers, DJ.

Richard,
I've tried the pella blades as well, but have not been getting very good results with my injector shaves. This mornings was servicable, but I find that I get a lot more irritation with the injector than I do with a DE. My best results have been with the feather PG blades.

By a strange coincidence and without realizing it was Scotto's week to report on Sandalwood products, I used the following this morning:
Merkur HD
T&H Super Turnback brush
Trumpers Sandlewood cream
NB AS Gel
This was my first try using a Sandalwood product and I was very pleased with the comfort of the shave. I have no idea how representative Trumpers is of "typical" Sandalwood scents but I really liked it, I was also a bit surprised that a very faint bit of the scent lingered for an hour or more, very pleasant.
All in all a nice start to the week and I'll look forward to hearing more from Scotto, I'm a real fan of Salter creams so I may have to make another purchase!

SR-204 brush
Proraso green tube
Thayer's Lavender WH
Proraso pre/post
Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet EDT
Another great shave from the Derby, and it was actually my first use of Proraso green tube - I was used to the soap. The cream gave a nice, rich lather. I realized how much I missed that cooling eucalyptus
SOTD (Monday):
- Merkur Progress with Tesco blade
- Proraso Pre/Post (applied during the shower)*
- Proraso shave cream
- AOS alum block
- Proraso AS Splash
* This has been mentioned a bit here, so I thought that I would give it a try. The pre/post certainly feels nice and tingly while it sits for a long time, but I don't know if this is as effective as applying hair conditioner to the beard in the shower.

So Didnt feel like shaving on Sunday,Monday..so had some good challenge for the razor blade.
-Shower super Hot 8-10m.
-Fatboy/ Fresh Sharp blade
-Proraso pre (under shower used)
-Muhle SB pinsel
-Proraso Green tub. this lather just rocks I must use it more often.
-Thayers W/H LAvender
-PRoraso a/s milk this stuff rocks aswell next time im getting those big bottles
-Floris Sandalwood -sample.
Wow incredible I just get better shaves by atleast not shaving everyday well thats life I gotta accept it.
The Sharp had no difficulty at all the first pass it took so much off I would have even looked decent just having done 1 pass ! I couldnt believe my eyes but Im sure it had also to do with a very long proper prep.
1 tiny weeper thats all, 3 passes only and BBS no need for PSO which is a surprise by itself. ZERO burn not even a hint what I did was use the proraso lather quite alot on the face the last rinse..use it on the face while you rinse of your razor and clean everything up ! so it cools even further then the cold final RINSE   Antartica......
The floris smells like freshly baked Xmass bread.. like a bit of Rum in it ?
you know the Xmas bread with raisins and amandel inside.. well just as long nobody takes a bite out of me on the street I should be fine...

SR-204 brush
QED Tangerine & Spearmint soap
Thayer's Lavender WH
Baxter's ASB
Penhaligon's LP No.9 EDT
Super-quick shave for a super-late morning. One pass N-S, with some neck/jaw/chin touchup SE-NW. Not a bad shave for such speed - no nicks or irritation. Not terribly close, as you'd expect.
The Penhaligon's LP#9 is the strongest cologne I've tried yet from my Scotto brand sampler. It's not my favorite - somewhat feminine, a spicy herbacious scent that starts with a touch of citrus and hides a bit of wood under the surface. It sticks around for a long time.

Yeah, it's pretty good livin in this neck of the woods.
Oh, and that cream:tongue_sm they custom scent it with any combination of EO you want.
Cheers, DJ.

Here is the website www.escentialonline.com but I dont think the cream is on the site yet, they had just put it on the shelf when I walked in the door. As far as the smell goes, you can have them use any combo of EO that you can think of. I will do a post about these creams after I use them a couple more times. I had them mix up a tub of China Sandal, and a tub of Vetiver.
Cheers, DJ.

Have you used their Himalaya soap?
If so, is it any good?
I'm considering placing and order - sandalwood soap (did you use EO or PO to scent?) and possibly some sandalwood ASB (have you ever used theirs?).
Thanks for the info.

Yes I have used the Himalayan soap and it is very nice stuff, but I dont know about the ASB. They also have the Pre de Provence soap, which is one of my faves. Oh, the Himalaya soap has a nice warm and kind of woody scent.

Cool! Thanks!
I've actually been having a heck of a time with lighting this last week. Since it is getting darker earlier, I have less (or almost none, now) natural light coming in the window. The flash is becoming overly harsh.

I tried a mock four pass shave a la Ron this morning. The results were pretty good - smooth in most places with very little irritation (just a bit on the mustache area). It was difficult to accomplish, though, and I had to really contort my face to fit the pattern without cheating. It does offer some good ideas which I'll modify into my regular routine.

The KMF Cool Mint cream has a very nice minty smell however I found that the lather is not all that great. I know it is not the water/brush/technique because I can get very good lather from my other creams/soaps.
Either way I am gonna try the cream with different water ratios to see if that helps.

I've found the secret to Baxter's great aftershave balm. You need it after using their terrible shaving cream.
First of all, they recommend that you apply the cream with a badger brush, but it does not lather. At all. It's definitely a brushless cream. Once I figured that out, after wasting half of my sample, I applied a fair amount with my hands. It left a vague white goo that quickly disappeared. Then... the blade...
I've also found out why they call it the Super Close Shave formula - there's nothing between the blade and your skin. It didn't provide much of a barrier beyond pure water. It had a vaguely pleasing scent, but that's about all it did. I actually got a close shave, but it was solely due to very careful touchup with just water.
I'm glad it was part of a free sample  (Don't let this dissuade you from other Baxter's products - I've really enjoyed the facial scrub and ASB so far.)

My experiment in shave monogamy continues. Keeping the same kit for the week has helped to improve the repeatability of my shaves. I'll probably do another week with this same kit to see how my face reacts when adding a variable of some mild skin stretching. Hopefully I'll be able to improve the quality of my shaves without too much protest from my skin! :biggrin1:

It was Trumper's. (Note the "GFT Rose" in Jim's post.) The reference to Thayer's was for their Rose witch hazel.
Jim - what a great lather! I haven't tried Trumper's yet, but this makes me want to... How much cream did you use to get all that?

Thats a mix of Honey bee spa unscented and a pea size piece of GFT rose mixed together- don't bother with the Trumpers get one of the Shea butter soaps from the Sues and you will be happier. I am using them mixed so I don't have to throw the english creams away.
That photo illustrates why I cam not see using a bigger brush.
Thanks you all for all the kind comments and PMS about this photo.

Jim,I really like the nivea balm, perhaps not quite as much as proraso but
still it goes on well and is good value for money.
The main reason I bought it was a lot of other people on the forum seem to
use it as well. Good product.:thumbup1:

I use the Nivea Sensitive quite often, it's an excellent and cheap product but find it a little thick. I've taken to mixing it with a little Witch Hazel to thin it down.

This was my first shave with a Wilkinson blade, so I used old standards for the rest. Impressions - pretty good shave, fairly sharp and smooth. Almost as sharp as a Derby, maybe a bit less, and almost as smooth. It reminds me of a Merkur blade. (Actually, it's a lot like a Merkur - similar price, similar characteristics, both made in Germany...)
I would say it's a good blade if it's convenient for you, but otherwise, Derby's are a bit better and much cheaper.

Nice photos guys! Looks like I have competition! I haven't been happy with my photos this week. I can't figure out what is going on. I picked up my new camera the Rebel XTi last weekend (which is supposed to be better) and I use the same lens but I just can't get into my groove. I think lighting may be to blame as now it is dark in the weekday evenings when I take my pictures. There is no natural light so it is all flash. I'll get it sorted.

That's funny Richard because I thought your stills didn't have the same energy you were showing before. Lighting is photography for sure. BTW are you using a macro lens, or a lens with a macro setting?
Don't worry, you'll get your photo groove back. And, look at all the copycats you've spawned here using the close cropped, off-angle technique for product shots. You should be charging these guys for copyright infringement!
