Armagnac - Please Educate me

So the suggestion for Spirit of the Month thread has got me curious about Armagnac.

Being in Quebec, without a substantial drive, I only have access to what my liquor commission offers;

What would be a good moderately priced beginner's Armagnac, and how do I drink it?

I wouldn't go below VSOP and XO is better. I drink Armagnac straight without anything added; prefer it to Cognac. Probably any producer's products would be ok to try until you find one you prefer.
