Hi All,

I had a couple of really nice suits made in Singapore in 2005. Since then I have re-ordered a couple of times but I have since gained a bit of weight so the tailoring doesn't really fit any more :blushing:

Does anyone have any recommendations where to buy a new suit (for work) in London? I don't want tailored or bespoke as these can be quite expensive, rather just somewhere to get a hard wearing and smart wool suit. I used to go to Savoy Tailor's Guild near Liverpool Street Station but they don't seem to great these days. Marks & Spencer suits don't really suit my physique.

BTW if anyone goes to Singapoe or Hong Kong, either on business or holiday, then I can highly recommend getting suits and shirts made to measure.

Any suggestions?

Try the East End.

... so far East, in fact, you'd swear you are in Hong Kong.

Pay a good tailor to remeasure you and then have your suits made offshore.

Suits in London - even very average Lewin suits - are likely more expensive than a good offshore suit.

Just my $0.02 based on my trip to London last year.

Do you have any experience of this, or any particular place in mind? Obviously this is the route I took when in Singapore and I was very pleased with the results.

I could also do what the other poster suggested and get measured here and go back to my guy in Singapore with new measurements.

I don't know where you are coming from or where you live.

That said with the current value of the pound, very weak against the Euro, strong against the dollar, I would not advise coming to London to buy a coffee yet alone a suit.

As suggested in an earlier post, get your measurements to a trusted source then pay shipping.

Believe me a trip to London shopping will drop the contents of your wallet in line with the US/UK economy.

I live in Hertfordshire and commute and work in central London. I already have a trusted source in Singapore but have no idea where I would go to get accurate measurements to send.

You would have to go into one of the shops such as Gieves and Hawkes, ask them to measure you, then think of an excuse not to order there and then/at all. Of course you could always get a nice suit from there as per your original question but it won't be cheap. Quality rarely is.
