View Full Version : Who makes Gillette's cartridge blades?

My neck loves them. I don't. No slight irritation anywhere.:001_smile

Are the USA Gillette blades for the DE the same thing?

How come I don't get any barely noticeable pale pinkness when I used the cartridge razor (Sensor)?

Thanks for your help...

one of the main problems when going from cartrige to DE is that you keep handling the DE razor like you would use a cartrige razor,

the cartrige razor pivots, the DE dosnt,
the cartrige razor has 2 spings holding each blade that allow the blade to move backwards if too much pressure is applied,

plus, i consider gillette DE blades to be... junk, feathers, personnas (non us made), derbys and bics provide better shaves at their agresivity levels,

Aevum,

A lot of B&B'ers do. You are not alone in your opinion. I just have this perennial very pale pinkness all over my neck, and it is not that far off from the normal skin color on my neck.

It is for that reason, my theory is: it depends how tough your skin is. I can rub my hand on my neck, and it will turn red, after shaving with a DE. (back in the day, of shaving with a CR - I doubt it would have turned any color  .)

But I think the sharper the blade, (in my case,) the redder the skin will become. But by the same token, to get to BBS, it will take more effort. So it just may be 6 eggs/ 1/2 a dozen, as far as effort required to get bbs.

Do you think it's a question of finding the right blade for my skin, or technique?

Thanks...

exactly, it took me a while for me to find that 38c, red personna, shave every other day combo, and trumpers coconut is just the cherry on top,

Duggo --

I'm not sure of the country of origin for the Gillette cartridges, but suspect it to be US.

The Gillette DE blades are sourced out of Russia, from a Gillette plant in St. Petersburg/Leningrad ru. (They are terrible blades, IMO, and grossly overpriced.)

Mach3 blades are very sharp. I use them occasionally myself, though I prefer my straight razors or Super Speeds.

I recently bought some Mach3 blades. The distribution address was Proctor & Gamble in the UK, but they were clearly marked made in Germany.

Mach3 cartridges are Made in Berlin/Germany and Boston/USA. In the next years Gillette will build a big factory in Mexico and will made the Mach3 cartridges there and not longer in Boston.

Does Gillette use the same blades that they use in their cartridge razors, in making the Gillette branded DE blades that people here use? :001_unsur

No, that are different finishing processes.

Is it a coincidence that I have found that Gilette Swedes give me a comfortable shave? What do you think? (I mean, it is made by the same Co.)

Thanks.

My neck seems to be quite susceptible to my blade screw-ups. Awkward beard pattern in my neck, I guess. If they work for you, go for it, but I would think pinkness tends to be due more to bad technique than the blades. I think with practice, you can really get it down right.

the devil. the blades are forged on the river styx.

The Swedes really are quite calming to my skin, and so, it's just like using a cartridge, as it has the same effect - no redness.

I don't know, but maybe this is the blade they use in their CR's? The refills were expensive enough...makes ya wonder.

its a shame gillette has decided to move its production to mexico, i wonder what margin they get on those cartrige blades...

but then again, im suprised that they dont have someone like treet or sharp making them in asia for pennies each,

if treet made them theyd probably be better than they are IMO.
