I just happen to live in Micro Brew heaven, I can think of at least one Brew Pub that has close to 200 beers on tap! I guess it's time to head down there with my list of the top twenty five.:001_tt1: :a54:
Cheers, DJ.

Yeah...rub it in. I thought I had quite a few choices at the Bar my brother works at with 65. I have heard the Beer festival up there is a good time.

a beer drinker could really do no wrong buying anything from the new glarus brewery.

fat squirrel
naked
yokel
road slush
native ale

or....if you're lucky.....you get to sample some mama bear brew.

I'm in a sweet spot for beer as well.

#1) I brew my own beer and wine
#2) I live close to three microbreweries that have over 200 different taps (combined)
#3) I have 4 places close that sell the best beer on the planet (Dogfish Head and Avery are among my favorites).

Michigan is a GREAT beer state. Just don't ask us about our economy...:crying:

or 1554 for that matter...but this is so subjective. I mean Firestone's Walker Reserve is superior to the Pale Ale. I can't imagine having to compile this list...that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to give it a shot. :wink2:

One of my best friends owns a microbrewery, and if that wasn't enough my brother is a bartender there. My cousin is also a great brewer and is chasing investors on a new brewery in the same town. So why did I move away?

Ditto for me too Howard, except I live in Virginia!!

When we were in Pittsburgh over the weekend, we went to this neat looking place called Sharp Edge. A very cool European pub that had hundreds of beers from all over the world, both bottled and on tap. When I asked what they DON'T have, the bartender said, "Budwieser, Miller, Michelob, Coors...etc.." While there I tried Skull Splitter (on a recommendation from Joedy, a fellow Virginia on the boards) and McEwans Scotch Ale. Both were excellent.

I've been in southwest Michigan for the past two years and will be departing in a month for Thailand, and by far the two things I will miss the most are Bell's Winter White and Bell's Oberon. The Bell's Expedition stout is in the List Sue linked to, but IMHO, pales to the two I have come to love.

I was surprised too, because it is the 90 minute IPA that I absolutely adore. I don't think the 60 minute is quite as good.... but they listed the 60 minute and not the 90...

I don't think there is one amoung us who is going to lose any weight this weekend....

Sue, who is drinking her very own Blueberry Pale Ale...... :001_tt1:

Sue, what recipe did you use? I have about 3 lbs of fresh (frozen) blueberries that the kids picked that I want to make either or both a blueberry wine and a blueberry wheat beer. Wanna trade one of your BPA for one of my BWB?

I can't believe 1554 isn't there either. Speaking of which, I think I need to make a trip to my local beer shop to get some...

"Best Beers in America" is like saying "Sexiest Women in Armenia." They're all pretty nasty.

Apologies to any Armenian women on the board

LOL! Yes, I've actually tried quite a few... and some of them are admittedly quite good. I just thought I'd play the part of the foregin beer snob, since this thread was approaching 20 replies and still seemed to lack "that guy"

In my line of work I get to sometimes interview some very interesting people. Today I got to meet a very neat Lt.Col in the USAF who was stationed in Germany. Imagine my surprise when I asked her what she did for fun in her travels and she responds "I would make beer runs on the weekends throughout Germany and Belgium and visit microbreweries."
The jealousy was immense

I was just beginning to post about Anchor Steam. It's one of my absolute favorites despite being made in America! I would love to see how it tastes after it has just been brewed- like all of those microbrews.

If you come to San Francisco you can go on a tour of their Brewery...

Shiner Bock is fine for me.

I learned in college: There are two kinds of beer, beer and no beer.

"Best" is so subjective. The European folks on the board may have one up on us, but here I go anyway...American beers.

There are two microbreweries that I like. The Rockslide in Grand Junction, CO and the Blue Ridge Brewing Company in Greenville, SC. Rainbow Trout Pale Ale at the BR. Yum.

Other than that, Guinness Stout and Harp. Not American, I know, but I can get them here.

Cheers, DJ.

How on earth does a pub with 200 beers on tap keep them in good condition? Surely they can't be shifting 200 barrels a week?

Or are they gassed up kegs rather than proper, naturally conditioned beers?

Wouldn't do for me as it would take me half the evening deciding what to have next!

Cheers!

Well, I can't get any of the American micrbrew stuff where I'm at. Guess I'll just have to settle for the local German brews!

Seriously, though, I can't wait to try any and all of the American stuff (including everything of that list) that I've had to miss out on.

This is one of those lists almost anyone can dispute. I've tried several of the ones listed and can think of several that are better.

But, to each his own. Beer is meant to be enjoyed not debated.

I LOVE Bell's Expedition Stout during the cooler months! At 11%, it's got a nice kick, too!

I would really want to go to the Bell's brewery... One of these days...

Dogfish Head beers are my favorite, those IPA's can't be beat. For a porter, I'll always take Anchor Steam.

Stone is another great one, but sometimes I am just not in the mood for their products.

That said, I do have a 2003 and 2005 bottle of Old Guardian in the fridge :)

To throw in some Canadian micro's into the mix. Nothing beats St. Ambroise oatmeal stout, Wellington Iron Duke Ale, or Church Key Northumberland Ale in my books. I've tried some American micros in my day such as anchor, and find them to be lackluster compared to Canadian micro's. But that's just my opinion
