More Diamond Paste

Could someone please advise me when you should apply more diamond paste to a paddle strop. The strop is starting to look black in places and the razor is starting to drag a bit.How do I apply more paste do I clean off the metal /black marks first!!

A charge should last a very long time, like many years unless your a honemeister and use it really heavy duty. If you need to apply more you just apply more. I wouldn't worry about cleaning. Diamond doesn't load up like some hones do. I have a bench strop with .5 and .25 diamond I use on and off and I've been using it about 2 years now and it has no black marks on it and hasn't needed any additional paste. I don't know about really coarse stuff over 1 micron but make sure you don't use pressure as you hone. let the diamonds do the work by themselves.
