For the price, it was an unbeatable soap.

I just finished a puck of VDH Select soap. I know that isn't one that anybody is going to be envious of, but I consider it to be a good soap for the price. Sometimes the cheapest products aren't usable at all, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I'm in the 2012 sabbatical for now, but would certainly considering buying this product in the future.

One tub of Trumper's Coconut shaving cream. It's good stuff but I doubt I'll replace it. The scent was nice but for most shaves I couldn't even smell it. For the money it's not better than anything costing a fraction of the price. For my money, Speick and Proraso out-perform it. I did, however, find it vastly out-performed AOS Lavender, with which I was very disappointed.

04-26-2012, 05:49 PM
I hunkered down and made my first (non sampler) kill...a tube of EJ Sea Buckthorn. I like it, but found it was too moisturizing for me. It almost made my face sweat. The scent really started to grow on me, but there are better out there. This cream smells like a summer cream, but I think would make a better winter cream because of its moisturizing properties.

Wow, it's been a while since I posted here.

Items finished:

1 tub of Nancy Boy signature scent SC (not yet replaced)
1 tube of C. O. Bigelow SC (will not be replaced; sticking with new formula Proraso)
1 bottle of Aqua Velva Musk AS/Cologne (not yet replaced)
2 jars of Proraso pre-shave cream (replaced)
1 tub of Coates' Tee Tree SC (current formula) (will not be replaced)
1 tub of Salter's Sandalwood SC (will not be replaced)
1 puck of VDH Luxury SS (will not be replaced)

I've also had the knots come out of two brushes: my C&E BBB that I bought 4 years ago, and my B&B Essential (first batch). Both can be repaired, but the BaBE will be more difficult considering its construction.

I finally finished my Ogallala Bay Rum Limes & Peppercorns stick. I enjoy the soap, but I'll not replace it as I am consolidating. It's been a process; all that remains now is MWF, Palmolive stick and the Body Shop Maca Root SC. MWF is a keeper (unless the nature of our water changes drastically). The Maca Root is also a keeper. I'm on the fence with Palmolive, but I'm about to spend a lot of time getting to know it.

Cool and interesting thread! (Though most members seem to forget to state if they will replenish an item.)

Creams/Soft Soaps:
1 Proraso Green tube (replenished with tub)
1 Cella tub (replenished with brick)
1 TOBS Almond tub (replenished)
1 Erasmic tube (replenished, plus purchased soap)

Soaps:
1 MWF (replenished with container)
1 L'Occitane Cade (replenished)

Afters:
1 Proraso White ASB (replenished)
1 L'Occitane Cade ASB (replenished)
1 The Shave Den Iced SubZero ASM (replenished)

Pres & Post:
2 Proraso Pre Post (replenished) (also used for non-shaving)
1 Osma Alum Block (replenished)
2 Thayers WH Astrigent (replenished) (also used for non-shaving)

Fiscal:
1 bank account (working on replenishing)

All of the above were items I started with over 2 years ago - back in my one razor and one brush days. They were chosen after doing more than a little research on this magnificent site. The research seems to have paid off because those first thoroughly thought out purchases almost always led to additional purchases.

Now that I have actually joined this site and have more time to participate (in both the site and the world of traditional shaving) I have very recently acquired a ton (almost literally) of stuff - both software and hardware.

As a result of these new explorations and trigger-pulls, I seem to have now found that I am more of a (hard) soap and ASS man (actually I have been the latter since about 11 or 12 years of age, but I digress...). With that shift said, I still cherish my first-love soft soaps, creams, and balms in my rotation. Part of the delight, I have definitely found out, of my more advanced state of traditional shaving is having a vast and varied rotation of software and hardware.

Salter Lime cream-this took forever since I now use mostly soaps. Scent and performance were nice, but I like soaps better with straights.

One Tube Proraso Red ( sandalwood) - Immediately replenished. My favorite!
One Tube Proraso Green (C.O.Bigelow) - I wish it had more menthol, but will buy more.
C&E Sandalwood soap. - It smells wonderful, but I like the creams better. I have Sienna and Nomad tubes on the way to try.
Polmolive soap sample - I would buy this product if there weren't so many other options.
Mike's Natural Soap Lime - I was a noob and didn't have good results with the lather. Maybe I'll try again. Maybe not.
Mystic Waters - Take it or leave it. I'll leave it. My wife is temperamental enough, I don't need my soap to be too.
CVS after shave balm. - This is a Nivea knock off and it has a nice smell and works great on sensitive skin. I want to try Nivea to compare, but a worthy purchase for $3 cheaper.
Clubman Aftershave - The nostalgia brought on by the smell is wonderful, but it makes me break out. My brother in-law is enjoying it.
Taconic Bay Rum Cream - Nice product. I wish the scent was a little more intense.
That's it so far.

Today, I finally managed to finish the Godrej menthol mist shaving cream (blue tube) that I bought in the last week of July 2012. This was my first ever shaving cream that I purchased while getting into DE / wet shaving and it has taken over 2 months of regular and 2 months of intermittent usage to finish the tube.

Very easy to build good creamy lather with the Godrej menthol mist, fabulous menthol feeling on the face and a value for money shaving cream. However I won't be buying it again in the near future since I have quite a few other shaving creams / soaps to go through - Proraso, Nivea & Biotique shaving creams, Godrej shaving soaps and lot of sample creams / soaps that I received with my purchases. And they will last me a good couple of years!

Killed VDH Select 4-20-2012 Good soap for a very low cost. Would buy again.
Killed the end of a puck of Williams 5-11-2012 What hasn't been written about Williams? It's only an OK soap, but is the cheapest thing around. Can be troublesome to lather, especially in hard water.
Mama Bear Aged Spice finished on 11/11/12. This has been a great lathering soap that will be replaced. It's a great lathering soap and excellent bang for the buck. If I had been exclusive to this soap it still would have lasted 5 months. Excellent fragrance as well. The melt and pour soaps seem to get dissed around here, but I like the ease of which I can refit it to different containers.
Old Spice Mug - It slipped from the counter into the sink on 11/11/12. I was amazed this broke it, but it did. I'm down to half a dozen of these, so it will have to be replaced. I may superglue this one back together, but it will still get replaced.

Next up:
Parker Sandalwood & Colonel Conk bay rum I'm not going to be soap monogamous anymore now that I have paid attention and know how long a soap lasts, but I am going to limit my rotation to a two or three seasonal soaps. I expect these two soaps to last me until March or April of 2013.

Weekends at the house in the country I had been using some VDH Deluxe since 5/11, but added Arko to that rotation on 11/1. Together I expect them to last a couple of years with such infrequent use.

On the shelf:
Mama Bear Brut - I'm going to wait until spring 2013 for this one.
Omega - This is another one to wait until warmer weather
Colonel Conk Lime - Sorry, but I PIF'd this one. I'll get some more eventually.

I finished my second bottle of Speick ASL this morning. Since finding it a couple years ago, thanks to numerous recommendations of members here, it has become my favorite aftershave. While my favorite razor, soap, brush, blade and fragrance seems to vary from day to day, Speick stands head and shoulders above everything else I've tried. I have more than twenty other aftershave splashes and balms in my rotation, but Speick gets reached for more than any other. I already had another bottle of Speick in the cupboard, so I opened it today. In the time that brought me to bottle three of Speick, I doubt I've finished half a bottle of any of the others.

One empty tube of Kyna shave cream hit the bin this morning. The cream is decent but will not be replaced.

Gonna be a big week for the finishing product- this tube, a carton of BIC blades is down to one blade and a vintage puck of Williams should give me shaves for the rest of the week before giving up the ghost.

I use one of these guys to help get everything it can get out of tubes. That's really impressive though.

Ha ha! Just saw what was added under my screen name! Just to be accurate, that is a shot of a nearly empty tube of 444 ASB.

I have a tube key on my Musgo cream. Don't want to waste any!

Finished a bottle of Diesel Only the Brave AS splash today.

This AS features average skincare, along with a modern/aquatic/ozonic synthetic scent, which although pleasant sometimes, can be downright nauseating if overapplied.

Not one I'll replace, as I have much better aftershaves which cost far less.

My puck of Knize soap has been finished. I was unsure about replacing this one, but a couple of shaves with a Valobra stick have convinced me that the Knize was not as good as my top-shelf soaps and will, therefore, not be replaced.

Finished off my QCS Key Lime cream/soft soap today. I'm unusre if I'll be buying it again as the performance wasn't outstanding but it smelled fantastic. I'm not saying the performance was bad but it wasn't as good as others I've used.

I also decided to bin what was left of my Nivea Cool Kick. Not sure why it's taken me so long to do it as it was never something that agreed with my face for some reason.

This represents the last few months. The only thing not pictures is Razorock 888 aftershave. The bottle has already been repurposed for witch hazel.

888 aftershave
King Louis aftershave It took me a bit to get used to the spray application of these, but they are top notch performers. The
888 will definitely be replace, eventually, after I clean out another half dozen AS bottles.

Arlington -What can I say. Replaced.
4711- Will be replaced
TOBS Luxury- I only started with a partial bottle. Nice but not better than several others, so not likely replaced.

TOBS Mr. Taylor cream- Nice performer if you like cream. Nice "barbershop" scent, but I prefer soap, so not likely to be
replaced.

Floid Sandolor preshave gel- I have one more bottle remaining. Since they brought back Floid Blue, maybe there is hope for
this as well.

After a couple months regular use I finished off a tub of Shave Library soap. It had a nice cedarwood scent, if a bit overwhelming, but it's all gone now. This is the first time I've finished a genuine puck of soap, and it feels pretty good.

I finally tossed a bottle of MyChelle splash. I thought i was gonna finish it a week or so ago, but it kept going, i tired to use it up more quickly, but it always had what seemed like one more use. even when i tossed it, there was still one more use... it will not be replaced. it was nice, but the scent was a bit to clove-ish for me. I need a break from it.
