It comes in both cream and soap. The cream also comes in two flavors - the popular green tube and the less popular red tube (wheat germ based I believe). Proraso has a bit of eucalyptus in it that is cause for some nice, bracing and cooling effects, but I don't think I would say to is going to be harsh on someone with sensitivities. If you find the green tube too strong, you can always try the red. I have never used the soap, only the green tube cream. Don't forget to also try their Pre/Post and liquid aftersahve balm. All of them are quality, very reasonably priced products.

Proraso comes in both soap (in plastic tub) and creams (green is eucalyptus, red is wheat germ). They also have a pre-post shave cream and a liquid cream aftershave.

I personally like the soap or cream, and use the liquid cream A/S every day. I know some have mentioned the Proraso can be "too cool" in the winter, and I have only been serously wetshaving for a few months, so others will be able to comment more authoritatively from longer experience. But I like it, and it does not seem to irritate my skin at all. But as they say here, YourMileageMayVary.:wink2:

Ok I'm really wanting to get some of this Proraso to try out, but I'm a little confused. Above it's mentioned that it comes in a soap and a cream, but in the UK the only variants I can find are:

Cream (tub)
http://www.gentlemans-shop.com/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?PRODREF=319&NOLOGIN=1

Cream (tube)
http://www.gentlemans-shop.com/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?PRODREF=85&NOLOGIN=1

From my experiments so I far I much prefer cream from tubs, is the Proroso tub above actually a hard soap or a cream?

Thanks,

Iwan

Proraso in tub is like a firm cream - softer than glycerine soap, but harder/thicker than the stuff in the tube.

I really like the soap. It is a soft soap, which is kinda cool because you can use a knife and scoop out a very thin little sliver of soap, and mix it right in your bowl.

Why order it when you can run over to your local Target and pick some up.

I use the Pre-Post every day as a pre-shave. I also use the ASB and have found that it is the best ASB I have ever used. I like to switch around soaps and creams to explore other scents (can you say: TABAC?) but must say that their "soap" and green tube cream perform no less than the best of any other soaps/creams I have tried. You could not go wrong with an all-Proraso regimen.

As an added bonus: you save money and time (available at Target) getting it. However, shhhhh, I would use these products if they cost twice as much and feel exactly the same about them.

Well I would, but my local Target is about 4000 miles away.

Seriously it's annoying as I've checked every retailer I can find in the UK and so far I haven't found a bricks and mortar store selling Proraso close to me. Though the Gentlemans Shop which I linked above is only about 30 mins drive away from where I live, so I may take a trip there next weekend.

For my money, Proraso green in a tube can't be beat. Cheap, easy to get, easy to use, lasts a long time, and it works PERFECTLY.

Can you tell I'm a fan of Proraso?

And, yeah, a poster of that ad would look fantastic framed and hanging in my bathroom. Hmm...

Peace,

Pierre

Run don't walk to your nearest Proraso dealer whoever it may be. Get your self a couple of armfuls.

I've never used the Red Proraso, but its supposedly designed for sensitive skin.

Red Proraso description:

PRORASO Sapone Da Barba, "Wheat Germ" (Red) shaving cream contains wheat germ oil and is formulated to protect and lubricate the most sensitive skin. Permits a closer and smoother shave than ever before possible for those who need or want a gentler shave.

Green tube stuff is nice. Lathers well, fresh & clean scent, and quite bracing. Might not be good for sensitive skin, but its hard to predict.

Yes, Proraso is good stuff. However, the eucalyptus does not give it a "cooling effect", IMHO. On my face it BURNS LIKE H*LL and is barely tolerable.

But if I blend my Proraso lather with the cheapo Surrey glycerin soap, or the nearly scentless Palmolive cream, I get a great shave. I use this combo regularly.

Unless your local Target is perpetually out of the cream in the green tube! They have everything else (cream/soap in plastic tub, pre/post shave, liquid cream AS, and even a brush), but neither of the creams!:cursing:

I'll have to motor over to the next nearest one (about thirty miles away). But still a bargain!

I was at my local Target the other day and didn't see it... I looked all over the aisle with the M3s and gels and other mens shave stuff, and nothing. Am I looking in the wrong place, or do not all Targets carry the stuff?

Look for the Spa section, near cosmetics. Target apparently doesn't want shavers to find the stuff.

As I found out today, the Proraso items aren't in the regular shaving aisle at Target. If you go about one aisle down from the cosmetics you'll find a section called "Spa." That's where all this great stuff lives...

Edit: Beat me to it, mrs. chefchris. :)

Just got back from Target (yeah, I've got it bad). Picked up the aftershave (really loved the scent) and the preshave since everyone here seems to be using it (so it must be good! LOL).

I love the Proraso green line....my shave routine:

shower: wash my face with Sharps "rebellious skin" face wash (does an incredible job of cleaning my skin/softening hairs prior to shaving, and is non-irritating to boot)

pre-shave: proraso pre/post, then I wrap a hot towel around my face while making lather/stropping my blade
cream: proraso green
post-shave: splash of choice (usually old spice), followed with proraso balm.

This tends to leave my face feeling, and smelling great. I also get far less razor burn using their product line than I have with any other products so far (I'm still a wetshave newbie comepared to many folks here, so take that as you will).

The times I see this I think it humorous, I even have read some study that compared the distance people are willing to travel/think is a long trip. If someone in the US says that something is a 30-60 minute drive, they often think of it as bein close, some place you could go anytime you need to. This is largely because of how spread out the US is. Europeans on the other hand tend to avoid trips that are in the 30-60 minute range, according to that study, because they are percieved as being a long trip since Europe tends to be more compact population-wise.

Just an interesting tidbit IMO.
