For those of you who have used both, I have a question. How do the shaves compare? Do you have a preference, and why?

I used a couple of different Schick and Pal injectors for quite a while back in the '60's and then got away from them in favor of DE's. I've tried them again in recent times since I've gotten into collecting. Some of them are quite nice but I can't seem to really get the closest shaves from them.

I had used some models of single edge Gem's and Ever Readys from time to time but, again, I kept reverting back to DE's.

Recently, I've tried some of the older versions of SE's and I think I've been converted. :001_smile I can't seem to get a better shave from any razor than the ones I get from the Gems and Ever Readys with the 1912 patent date and even more so from a Gem Junior with a 1900 & 1901 patent. I also like the shaves I get from the Gem "G-bar".

Tom

I've never been able to master the G-Bar, but I've only used it a handful of times with CVS drugstore blades. I much prefer my J-Type injector....you can just about shave asleep with it.

Scott are you hoding that head flat against you face and letting it glide? I haven't shaved with a DE in months! I love the GEMS--even the much maligned Micromatic--and I can just about shave with my eyes closed with one. Of course when I do that I always miss a spot! <OH HAR HAR>

I think that the injector makes it much easier to get close-in under the nose at the nostrels, but find that the GEM gives an overall much closer shave. Having both and having used both, I favor the GEM.

I have not used the injector, but I do not see how they could give a better shave then a Gem. I have a micromatic that I absolutly LOVE.

I have an Injector and a Gem G-Bar in my rotation and feel both these razors give very good shaves, the Injector having a slight edge over the GEM () due to the smaller head which makes it easier to use under the nose.

I have a GEM Featherweight and an Eversharp-Schick type G injector. While I agree that the smaller head of the injector helps in getting under the nose I consistently get better shaves with the GEM.

Let me warn you off of generic blades for either. The Schick branded injector blades and the GEM coated stainless SE blades are head and shoulders above the CVS branded generics.

That's the part I haven't really mastered....I need to give my G-Bar another shot...

That's the same problem I encountered.....the bigger head on the G makes it harder to get around under my nose, which is a trouble spot for me.

I have said many times if you have trouble getting under nose and chin... grow a goatee... solves the problem, and the women seem to like it ...

for those of you having trouble getting under the nose with a GEM, try attacking it XTG.

I had the same "under the nose" problem but found that going "sideways" in this area was the answer.

+1 but you can do it ATG if you are very careful. The former is less daunting though.

Yup.

Like Tom says, 'sideways' with a GEM gives a clean shave at the mustache region.
