Wine & dinner in the garden (I garden, we've been over this) with my hot Peruvian wife (Peruvians are hot, didn't you know?).
Off the grill (mesquite or hardwood charcoal only please, briquettes need not apply): salt & pepper chicken, grilled asparagus, squash steamed halfway then grilled with a little brown sugar
Ungrilled side: rice with quinoa
Wine: 2005 Provenance Sauvignon Blanc from Rutherford in Napa Valley... 2007 is available these days but 2005 was the better year by far.
Dessert: Banana Heaven (if you've spent time in the Florida Keys you'll know Blue Heaven, where I snagged this recipe from), cooked, again, on the grill
Post-dessert: Romeo y Julieta No 2 -- the perfect cigar, paired with a 7 year aged dark rum from a country we're not supposed to be able to get rum from...

Marks go to Richey for being a slide guitarist. You can regain some man points!
A bowl of Hal O' The Wynd in my Peterson Red Fishtail pipe, a bottle of Peroni, and possibly a glass of Yamazaki 10 year old malt later if i can twist my own arm. Which i'm sure i can manage...
This has been my first Friday away from the pub in ages - horrible weather outside (which i had to work in all day), and i'm cosy in my apartment with a copy of Prospect and the 'net. Bliss.

Good choice on the peroni, and I didn't even notice any of my slides were in the pic, I had been playing some slowhand open tuning stuff earlier this evening but I thought I had put everything away.

Knob Creek Bourbon, while waiting for my lovely wife to arrive home with a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Tonight was grilled top sirloin marinated and, later on the grill, glazed with a mix of red and white vermouth (does that make it a "perfect" marinade?:001_smile) EVOO and butter, served on braised kale with boiled potatoes on the side. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale while grilling and a Bridgeport IPA with dinner.

Bountiful bunches of beautiful basil were at the farmer's market, so I made pesto for dinner. The basil, parmeggiano, toasted pine nuts, garlic and some good olive oil got to know each other better in the Cuisinart.
With nothing more than salt, pepper and a slice of good batard bread to go with the pesto linguine, the wife and I had an excellent late summer dinner (actually, it's the beginning of summer for the Bay Area).

Pre-Dinner drink was a fresh made vodka sour consisting of 2oz. Smirnoff vodka, 1.5oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice, 1.5oz. simple syrup, and a splash of club soda over ice. It was amazing, but apparently my stomach didn't like all that acidity. Talk about acid reflux later that night! Maybe next time I'll garnish it with a TUMS.
Dinner was grilled pork tenderloin. Mmm.

Drinks wise, another glass of last nights high tide, some Erdinger Wiessbier, Duvel, and a Chimay blue label.

All the tea talk lately had me craving Asian food. Since there are no decent Chinese restaurants in the area, one has to stick to good old home cookin'.

Rice pudding made with jasmine rice and coconut milk
Yum. Now I am ready to burst, drinking some good pu'er tea and typing this note.

Just a few moments ago I finished my first Perdomo Golf compliments of Bob O. What a great early afternoon cigar to go with a book and a cup of coffee! Thanks Bob!
First impressions of the cigar included a flawless, nut brown wrapper with minimal veins and a soft, nutty pre-light aroma. After clipping the head, toasting the foot, and lighting, the flavor was mild, nutty, and a bit peppery, but not too complex. As I got into the cigar more, it did gradually build in complexity, but stayed nutty and smooth throughout.
Overall impression, this was a great cigar! It boomed out thick, white smoke and burned razor sharp from beginning to end. I dropped the ash once at around two inches in and the remainder held on down to the 1.5 inch nub that I regrettfully had to set down after one very relaxing hour.
I'll also note that my humidor has been a bit on the high side lately, so last night I set the cigar out in an unhumidified cigar box and dryboxed it overnight. The results couldn't have been better.
The Perdomo La Tradicion Limited Edition Golf Robusto. Recommended!
When it comes to cooking Chinese food, I tend to go in spurts. (Don't even think of it.) When I trot out to the market, I usually get enough to keep myself busy for a week. Yesterday's dinner had no leftovers, so for today:
Fiery Beijing noodles with minced pork, hot bean paste, and XO sauce.
Baby bok choy with dried mushrooms.
Yard long beans with minced pork and black bean.
Kokuho Rose rice, red label.
'91 CNNP yellow label sheng puerh (meh).
Fresh lychees.
Almost forgot about breakfast- an obscenely good poke of Early's sausage. Number one on my "last meal" list.

You might want to pick up a bottle of Talisker 10. It isn't as peppery as it used to be, but it is still there. While I would say the $15 bump to the 18 is well worth it, it doesn't have the same rawness of the 10. I apologize in advance to Mrs. Lynchmeister.

Birthday celebration:
Started things off right with a wine tasting at a local apple orchard/winery, which resulted in buying a glass of wine, and shortly thereafter, a bottle.
Next stop was Oktoberfest at the Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter. Once there, the flowing of Paulaner Weißbier and apple schnapps ensued.
We opted out of eating at the Gasthaus because the place was absolutely slammed, so instead we went out for a steak dinner. Ceasar salad, heaping bread basket, 12oz. sirloin (borderline medium-rare to medium), fries, and a hot fudge sundae, accompanied by a few Sam Adams Oktoberfests on draft.

I agree with you. Broker's is another good under-the-radar gin, but it's not as good as the Boodles.

Bell's Best Brown Ale
I was extremely disappointed. Definitely won't recommend this one from a normally, stalwart line.
Greek salad, followed by an absolutely perfect plate of chicken parmigiana.
You know you have a problem when you drink tea with chicken parm.

Saint Luis Rey Serie G Maduro.
Mostly boring. Some slightly interesting flavors (I got an oddly milky finish). Smooth without being exciting. Stronger in punch than I thought it would be. I got a bit of a buzz which I normally don't get from cigars. Overall not worth the $7 I spent. At least not in my opinion. An opinion that happens to be humble. ;)

Perdomo Habano Connecticut Robust with a few Firestone California Pale Ales.

butterfly and pound chicken cutlets as thin as you can. Dredge in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs. Fry in neutral tasting oil until golden, ~1 1/2 to 2 min per side. Top with sauce (that's a whole nutha thread) and sliced mozzeralla and bake/broil to desired degree. Eat with garlic bread and/or side of pasta.
One of the simplest dishes- the key? Don't screw up at any point.

Black Maple Hill 21
An exquisite bourbon. One of the richest and most flavorful you can find. And at under $100, for a 21 year old spirit, really a terrific value.

A 1-0 tiebreaker win courtesy Mr. Jim Thome. And, I'll admit, one too many celebratory shots. :a46:

And tonight finishing off a bottle of Scotch and trying to decide if Absinthe or Cognac come next.:o16:

Germain-Robin Alambic Brandy
A wonderful unique product, a California Brandy done in a Cognac style, IMO much better than many Cognacs twice it's price. LetterK and Bob O. introduced me to this one. I very much appreciate it. :thumbup1:

That's really too bad. Sorry bud. But how to Cognac and Armagnac prices compare in Europe to the States? Are you saving any money being on the same side of the pond?

I emailed Germain-Robin just on a whim today to check this out. They wrote back they are distributed in the UK and their distributor is Love Drinks. I hope you can find it.

Thanks for the info,
It looks like they distribute a vodka brand that's part of a craft distillers group with Germain Robin, but unfortunately not the brandy

That's odd, because a representative from Germain-Robin told me that their brandies are sold in the UK.
