I like the look. $9.99 + shipping sounds more than reasonable.

First time I have heard of STAR.

Opinions please??

Attractive razor, I really like the knurling. For $9.99 I'd be all over it:biggrin:

Looks very nice. I don't know anything about it, but for 9.99, it is worth a try. The handle looks very similar to the Segal.

Excellent razor... performs much like the Gillette Tech. Nice low profile head! I'd scoop it up... :001_smile

This same model Star was my first safety razor, a PIF from Blackstangal. It has been AWESOME. It shaves similarly to a gillette tech, very mild, but I much prefer it over techs. I really love the grip on the handle, it's very secure. Much deeper 'knurling' than most razors.

Pick it up, without a doubt! I like mine so much, I'm looking for a NIB silver one. Then I'll PIF the one I have now to a newbie...

I was in the chemist picking something up today and I saw a clearance stand. As I approached I saw a farmiliar red cylindrical box. Contained within was a Kent BK2.

I did not need a new brush but alas at £5 sterling i could not pass it up!! Bargain of the century. Tomorrow I go back for £1 ingrams blue and green and the 50p erasmic soaps and sticks.

Completely unexpected but lovely find!

But I did not take the pictures until today, so close enough.

I found this in an antique shop yesterday. The blade looks to be in pretty good shape, the only nick I can find is on the spine, and the razor itself is still really sharp. I did find one like this on Ebay that a guy tried to sell, but the blade looked like it had been through a brush fire or something.

I don't get the connection between bamboo (actually they look to be bakelite or something similar) scales and George Washington.

I also saw, but did not buy, a "45K gold plated" unused DE razor, I think a Gillette. It was really nice, but the wife was glaring at me already.

A couple of recent Ebay wins to make you pea green (and orange) with envy. Ok two of the Hai Karate bottles have been featured before but I was fooling around with the camera today taking new photos for the website. The Skin Bracer was still in the original box. So were a couple of the Hai Karate bottles. The Hai Karate gift set is still in the original plastic.

Why Hai Karate you ask? Even though it predates my shaving period I recall it with a certain degree of fondness. Who can forget those commercials? One of the most successful ad campaigns ever.

Anyway here they are...

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b227/mjl1297/HaiKarategroupphoto.jpg

The Hai Karate actually smells pretty good. I was expecting something loud and mephitic or pungent--it's nothing of the sort. The Oriental Spice is actually a bit understated as is the aftershave, The Oriental Lime you would need to watch yourself dispensing that one but Jade East is the same way. Just wear with moderation. I bought them to keep though--doubt I'll be using them too much.

HAI-YA!!

My first safety razor was a Superspeed I found at an antique mall for $5 almost 2 months ago. It was pretty exciting to find a razor in the wild. Since then I had not had any luck finding anything else until Saturday, when I visited an antique mall kinda tucked away near where I work.

Even though it's in a major city I guess it had not been "mined" yet by any DE enthusiasts, meaning there were quite a few nice pieces there that probably would not have been passed up, some of which I still haven't picked up (yet) because I didn't really know what I was looking at.

I did buy two Fatboys with cases (E1 and G1). Both of the Fatboys are in excellent condition, one slightly better than the other, though both are a bit short of mint. The letters are all black however and the plating is nice and shiny. One of the cases is in pretty good shape, just a bit of crazing on the back edge of the lid, but has both the original flier and the original blue blade dispenser. The other case is a bit rough around the edges, has substantial crazing and the plastic is yellower, the "wings" (the black flaps covering the hinges) are both broken.

I also found an anodized black handle Superspeed (P1), with the anodization almost completely intact. Theres a tiny bit of thinning in one spot. May make this part of a newbie kit, or my original '54 Superspeed (Z3).

Edit: I think P1 is painted, not anodized. I can tell however that it is not one of the plastic coated ones.

Went to my parent's house for a Labor Day BBQ. A couple of weeks ago, I had mentioned to my Dad, that I had started wetshaving, and had shown him a gold tech that I had bought.

Today, Dad surprised me! Apparently, he still had a couple of razors that he use to use in the 60's and he passed them on to me.

He gave me a silver ball end tech G-1, a travel tech set that was given to him from our county commission (personalized with "compliments of Clark County, Nevada on the plastic case) and the best one, a Gillette injector... not a Schick, but a Gillette...I had to research it online, but apparently they made them for a couple of years (right about the time I was born..1969)...

What a great Dad!

I won an auction on eBay a couple weeks back for a nice Super Speed and a variety of what looked like Techs. I've only be using a DE for a little while and wanted a few more to try. The seller was slow shipping and the box arrived while we were out of town this weekend. I was very surprised when one of the Techs in the picture turned out to be a '55 Diplomat. A little rubbed on the doors but otherwise nice. Just needs a good cleaning.

Spent the weekend in Jefferson, TX and found two Shick Krona- one of which is in excellent condition, the other has some corrosion. Also found a Tech with no date code but with a bakelite handle, in a SS plastic case with an unopened box of blades. The entire score was under $15. Not too shabby.

I picked up a Barber Poll Slant at Cambridge Chemist E. 64th and Lexington Avenue in New York City, then went a few blocks south on Lexington Avenue and picked up my first bottle of Lime Skin Food and a pack of red personas. The gold razor I bought at a street fair but don’t know what it is. It is a three piece razor with a ball end. Any help on its identification?
Let me just say that the 39C is like no other razor I have ever used. It has replaced my Vision 2000 as my everyday razor; as many have said before me, make less lather because you won’t need it and you will just wash it down the drain. After just two passes I am BBS and area’s that I have never be able to master like the chin and jowl area are a breeze with the 39C. I have tried to master the angle of my HD and never got BBS in these areas. I have learned that it’s all about the angle to achieve a great shave; for me that has been very easy with the 39C. It felt so natural that I would recommend it to new D/E shavers with the same advice take it easy and no pressure, let the razor do the work.
As far as my new bottle of skin food, it smells great and just a drop, I mean just a drop will cover the entire face. However I don’t find it very moisturizing. I have heard that it makes a good pre-shave, has anyone used it for that purpose?

This is what I found in my mail today - Institut Karite - have been waiting for ages to get this soap and try it and thanks to the Johns at Shavingessentials, finally I was able to get one.

I would also like to mention that the customer service that I received when doing business with the Johns was top notch. They were pretty liberal with the samples too. The personalized note was a very nice touch :001_smile. The Johns definitely will be getting some more business from me very soon.

The date code on this piece indicates that this Single Ring Old Type Gillette was produced sometime later in the second half of 1906. Gillette started to prduce the Single Ring for the first time in the second half of the 06'. The year ended with the date codes around 770000.
It looks to be in excellent shape.

Very nice find for sure.

I haven't received it yet . . . Just got it off the bay last night. I've read on B&B that the newer thinner blades are, just that, thinner than the ones that were around 100 years ago. and that some folks shim them (and some don't). Hopefully it will give me a decent shave as I have every intention of using it!

Very nice Ram, I like.

I scored a gillette New in what I consider very good condition. Tried it out with a Derby, felt a little on the rough side but this is my first comb. It is the lightest razor I own now, it almost felt as light as a disposable. I am going to try the Derby one more time then switch blades till I find the winner. Sorry no pics, still need to learn how to do that. Thanks SirArthur.

Kind of a soap week. UPS brought a few items from tulumba, Arko shave sticks, commando shave cream, alum block, and a couple of bars of olive oil soap. I was lucky enough to get this as a gift from a fellow watch enthusiast from PMWF. He knew that I was transitioning from collecting watches to DE razors. This was passed down the family to him. He has no male children or close relatives to whom it could go. Rather than have it sit idle (and certainly not to sell it on ebay) he decided to give it to me. A very touching and appreciated gesture. Both the gift and the giver will remain special to me!

I don't know when it was produced but it reads: "PAT. JAN 13, 1920"

I plan to clean it very gently, keep the old patina, and give it a "spin" . . .
