I just read on the Mama Bear website a warning that lavender is a know irritant. Is this true? I always heard lavender is good for the skin. It might explain why my neck gets irritated sometimes.

Anyone use lime scent? I am thinking about buy that next. Anyone know if it's an irritant?

Thanks

My aunt swears by lavender for healing skin grazes and eczema patches etc. and I've always found it soothing and my skin is very sensitive..... perhaps it depends on the form it comes in, there are different grades, and lots of lavender oils are for scent only and shouldn't be used on the skin, any masseurs in? They usually know whats good and whats not. I also live most of the time about 1/2 a mile from where lot of the lavender Britain uses comes from (or so I'm told)......

Put it this way--lavender, particularly in its strongest form as an oil, is known to irritate the skin of some people.

Lavender as an ingredient in bath products, shaving cream etc. will not bother some people at all and will bother some people very much.

But I wouldn't say it's good for the skin or bad for the skin per se.

If it can help... my skin is a real pussy, and I had no problem at all either with T&H slightly lavendered cream/balm or TGQ Provence Lavender soap.

I heard it makes you grow boobs? Ahhhh....you knew it would have to come up sooner or later! On a serious note....Certain ASB's(lavender) do irritate my skin minimally but not too bad. Castle Forbes is very strongly scented(awesome stuff!!!!) and leaves a quick sting but dissipates quick(the burn that is)

About the growing boobs part, there is some truth to this. It's also the reason why I try to avoid lavender, especially anything with lavender EO, in general. There have been quite a few studies showing that Tea Tree Oil and Lavender Oil mimics Estrogen in the body, which as many of you know is the female hormone. When these oils are used in products such as shampoo, shaving cream, shaving soap, etc a significant enough amount is absorbed through the skin. There have been cases of prepubescent boys growing breasts after exposure to these oils, such as shampooing with a product that contains them, over a period as short as a month. Of course all effects wore off after the use was discontinued. Men have high enough testosterone in their bodies after puberty that the effects wont be as drastic, but if you're over 45 the effects can be. Testosterone levels gradually drop as we age and there is a point when these oils will again have such effects. Just a friendly warning .

This lavender stuff freaked me out too. The main study on young boys using lavender products made it into the new england journal of medicine.

Thats pretty scary since I like lavender products.

Well, lavender EO has many uses.. unless i'm forgetting, it's a mild local anaesthetic too (or at least the lavender based liquor i've had made my whole mouth numb)
