I just wanted to say hi, and let everybody know that this is a great site (like you didn't know that already). I am anticipating that my first shave with a DE razor will be this weekend; I'm waiting for the rest of the stuff I bought to come in. I've gone through most of the tutorials, and I'm only mildly nervous!

Anyway, I'll be lurking about, and I'm sure asking a lot of questions once I get started. One thing though, I need a secret decoding ring for some of the acronyms used around here. CONUS? YMMV? Maybe somebody can develop a tutorial on reading B&B posts! :w00t:

Welcome to B&B! What setup are you going to use for your first DE shave?

First, thank you for the link for the abbreviations.

I got a what looks to be a pretty decent Gillette Super Speed DE razor off of Ebay. No idea how old, but it looks clean. I also got a Vulfix pure badger brush (wow, badgers smell really bad), and some Mama Bear Dragon Tears soap. I have a blade sampler on order, and I've already been using Nivea's after shave balm. Oh, and a brand new septic pencil. :tongue_sm

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Welcome to B&B,

you got some nice gear to start with, don't worry the badger smell goes away pretty quick

Welcome Aki!

The smell of your brush will quickly mellow with use. If you want to get a head start on that before your first shave do one of thr following:

* Give your brush a soak in a solution of borax and warm water
* Give your brush a gentle shampoo with, yes you guessed it, shampoo

Obese Add Single-unit (big plus one)

I shampoo my brush like I would make lather, others probably do as well, I just skip the "repeat" step, though :tongue_sm
