I'd like to get a video recorder to take home movies and the like ... never owned one before, and want to get the right one first time!

Suggestions & questions welcomed! I'm thinking of going higher-end, but not so high-end that the return for additional expenditure starts dwindling. :001_rolle

Make sure you go three-chip. The quality of any 3CCD camera over a single chip is just incredible.

JVC and Panasonic make some good Hi-def 3CCD cameras. You can get a decent camera with 1080i/720p support for under a g-note these days.

If you want to go prosumer - Canon is the way to go, Sony a close second.

If you're into still photography as well, Nikon just released a new advanced amateur Digital SLR, the D90, which features movie recording at 720p HD resolution at industry standard 24 fps.

Top it off with manual control and the entire range of nikon lenses, and I'm thinking of selling my D200 to buy one.

good luck with your decision!
