So, I haven't posted much on here, lately. I started out with a lot of confidence in my DE shaves. The past two days, I've suffered quite a a few small nicks (no cuts yet!) and as a result haven't been too happy with myself in shaving. Today, I changed out my blade and gave it another go. I really took my time today. I took a great deal of time getting the lather just right, then I started making slow short passes. Well, I realized that I had missed a lot, but I wasn't irritated, so I started lathering up small patches that needed work and cleaned up a little at a time. I was enjoying it so much that time just flew by. Well, I received a text message and realized that I was running late for work, so I just rinsed and headed straight for work. I made it only a minute late, but my face has random tiny spots that aren't all too smooth since I didn't have time to finish my touch-up phase. Well, in either case, I am happy I found that Zen everyone has been talking about. I'll have to get up much earlier tomorrow.

Better to be happy with a not-perfect shave than to go for a 'BBS' and be frustrated when it doesn't happen. Don't forget: half the fun is trying out new things (blades, razors, soaps, creams, oh my!).
Glad you found your happy place! Visit it often!

If I read your post right (which I might not be) you are blade buffing on your first pass. That doesn't work well for me. It pulls and hurts. The first pass consists of long, slow strokes WTG to mow them down. Then long, slow strokes XTG. Finally when I get to the ATG pass I start blade buffing. By that time everything is cut down to a manageable level and everything is nice and slippery. No muss, no fuss, no irritation. You might give that a try and see if it helps. Good luck and congrats on beginning the journey.

Yeah, I definitely didn't explain that well. My first pass wasn't quite short strokes, but mostly slow and focusing on one section at a time [keeping cheeks separate from side burns and jawline, etc]. Precision and time were definitely a big part of the mix and I think that if I had more time to kill, I would have had an amazing shave.

Hang in there. You're doing precisely the right thing by taking your time. before long, it'll be BBS city!

It's really incredible how much your shaves will improve with time. You'll get to know your individual razors, creams, soaps, brushes, blades and technique ver well.
It can be a lot of fun knowing how to mix it up and tailor your equipment to your current needs.

I'm 'HAPPY WITH A CRAPPY' every morning. Bran flakes were the second best thing I discovered after DE shaving. Congrats and keep up the good progress.

Right now, I'm sticking with one razor, one type of blade, one cream and one brush so that I can perfect my technique with that alone. After, I'll switch some variables around to discover what products work better for me.

As I like to say, "A bad day with a brush and Safety razor is better then ANY day with can goo and that other stuff"
