Hi all,

Last Saturday:
After SWMBO gave the ok (she wanted me to wait till my B-day) I ordered the Merkur HD and 20 blades. I'm all set I just have to wait till Wednesday (Monday being a holiday), it's ok I'll just look at more razor porn till then I can make it.

Sunday:
Buy last excel 5 cartridges as I 'm out MACH3 blade and I'm NOT buying more.

Monday, Tuesday:
Still not Wednesday visit E-bay and look at more razors.

Wednesday:
As planned the HD shows up, and holy smokes is this heavy. I put the blade that came with it in just to play with razor. (read shave patches on arm and leg)

Thursday:
Finally it's go time, change the blade and put a brand new merkur, and fill the sink and bowl and send my brush for a swim (Wilkinson $5.00 at Wal-Mart, I have no other reference but it works). Do the shower thing and get my face good and wet.

Next comes the lather for the last 2 weeks I've been using Poraso and will continue to due so till it's to cold outside. Anyway lather up let it sit for a minute or two.

Moment of truth, start with a N-S pass first, a little pulling but it is shaving. I continue on with a E-W then W-E. On the N-S pass I had to stop on my neck because it was pulling too much, but I was able to finish my face. Rinsed my face off with hot water then a good splash of cold and finished off with Life brand AS balm (has a spearmint scent)

Afterwards a little burning but nothing major, and a very nice shave.

Friday:
Shave 2 the only thing I changed was the N-S pass on my neck became a NW- SE pass, much better less burn
 .

Anyway that was this weeks adventures and I'm thinking this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I'm in the same boat as you. I just started using a DE razor this week and I must say that it is great. I agree this might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship between me and well shaving. :badger:

By all means order the blade sampler from LetterK. The Merkur blade pulls for me, too, and I think it's because it's just not sharp enough for some beards.

WElcome to B&B- great results!

However, how do you expect to develop any of the ***AD's and satisfy them if SWMBO will be in control of them?

I've been thinking about that long and hard, and I'm still working on it. But business trips do happen and most silver razors do look alike.

alot of mens beard changes direction on the bottom of their neck many mens growth changes to s-n growth (mine grows inward w-e, e-w) check to see wich way yours grows and make sure you shave it with the grain

like i always tell ne DE shavers the best advice i can give is dont worry about getting a close shave. just focus on getting the most comfortable shave you can and the close will come on its own (i would probably exchange the across the grain passes for another with the grain pass for about a week of shaves or so. and stay away from against the grain for several week IMHO)

welcome to B&B

yeah i have that problem with a nickle sized patch of hair next to my addams apple. have not yet found the perfect way to deal with it. i just tried passes in a different direction each day until i found the one that seemed to catch the least. im sure one of the pros will have a suggestion.
