With regards to your recent purchase, can you state which stones these are and do you shave directly off of them or do you use some pastes.
Also, before you bought these stones what were you doing to get your straights shave ready.

Regards.

Before I was using other japanese waterstones, kings, shaptons etc... finishing on either a coticule or the chinese 12k, and in some cases a naniwa 10k then stropping no pastes. With the spydercos I also only strop. The stones are all three that are available the medium, fine and ultra fine. Took all my razors through each stone based on the sound it makes, once you get about as fine an edge on each stone the sound pretty much doesn't change, its a strange way to do it but it works for me, usually I can tell the difference because it sounds way more harsh when just starting to hone the the noise kinda mellows out. Needless to say, after the ultrafine all I do is strop and shave, best shaves I ever had, and the HHT is now more easily achieved and also evenly distributed across the blade. I swear this stones are the easiest ones to use I have ever used.

I only have a Spyderco Uf, and I have to admit that I have not used it enough because of all of the other hones I have, but you have inspired me to play it more!

Woodcraft lists the ultra fine as a 2000 grit. Is that right? I thought the ultra fine was a higher grit than that. Also, will only a 2000 grit be good enough to finish on? I am confused.

You are correct, sir, but it's spelled shiznit.

From the Guide (http://www.badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=346571&postcount=1):

Medium is approx 3-4K
Fine is approx 8K
Extra Fine is approx 13-14K

All three stones together cost $101 before shipping here (http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=spyderco&x=10&y=15).
