Just wanted to add my two cents now that I've actually been doing this for about a week. So far so good. I'm finally getting the right ratios for building a lather with creams, but the soaps are still giving me a problem. I'm just going to keep working on it. As for my shaves, I can see my technique must be improving, as my shaves are getting closer and closer to BBS. So far I've been using the Merkur HD with a Merkur blade, but over the next several weeks I'll be working my way through the blade sampler, and figuring out which blade is right for me. So far it's been a terrific experience. It's feels great to be able to pamper myself a bit. In fact, this has triggered a lot of other desires for pampering myself (colognes, soaps, etc) Hopefully I'll be able to afford it! :wink2:
I'm still reading more than I'm posting, because there is just so much good information, and I don't really have anything useful to contribute yet. But I'm glad I found this community, and I look forward to contributing more in the future.

Congrats Keith. :biggrin1:
I'm in my 4th week now, weeks 2 and 3 were actually worse than week 1 because I was frustrated and was trying too hard to get BBS. Sometimes taking about 7 passes to get every last hair i could feel. Yes I was smooth but I had the mother of all razor burn most days.
So The last week, I just relaxed and stuck to 3 gentle passes (with/across/against) with no pressure - then STOP. I found I almost get BBS most days now and virtually no razor burn, which is nice!
I think I'm going to have to go back through the sampler pack again, as I was trying different blades during weeks 2 and 3 when it was my technique which was at fault - not the quality/sharpness of the blade. Oh well, it's all part of the fun!
I find i'm enjoying it more and more now, hope you are too.

glad to hear you are enjoying yourself. i alway feel bad for all the men around me i see the day in day out with stubble, razor burn, or bumps. however every one i know thinks i am crazy and swears they will cut their face off with those "old fashioned" razors.[sigh]
hope many great shaves are ahead of you

Yup, just seeing the succes on the horizon is a positive thing.
Like all of us, the learning curve has to be tackled, and the wierd science of lather is one that will keep you mystified for a long time to come.
Still, great news, and stick with.
Peace,
Pierre
