Whatever it was, tonight I had probably the most enjoyable shave both in terms of results and ease of process since I took up the brush and DE blade method all of 3 months back.
My usual routine is to wet my face in the shower, rub in some face scrub (never thought I'd ever say "I need to buy some more face scrub" !), rinse off the residue before picking up the razor and commencing battle, I mean, shaving. Three passes : WTG twice, ATG once, which misses out my upper lip, then cold rinse and apply post shave moisturiser, pat dry then a little aftershave.
In total it usually takes about 20 minutes. Which is why this morning, waking up 10 minutes before my bus to work, it and my shower got sacrificed.
So this evening I decided to pamper myself a little and lay dozing in a nice hot sudsy bath for a good half an hour before picking up my 38C (I'm a once a day at least guy, heavy dark growth that really shows).
I didn't take any longer than I usually do but it felt so much better and this was with a Derby blade on its 3rd (for me, last) day. Cheeks, chin nice and smooth. No stray whiskers around the corners of my mouth. And even my neck was pleasantly bristle free if not perfectly smooth, but most importantly - no burn, or nicks.
My theory is the lazing in the steamy bathroom for half an hour beforehand did a far better job of softening and raising my whiskers than my usual hot water prep. It's just a pity I can't really spare the time to run then lie in the bath for half an hour every morning!
