View Full Version : Brush recommendation
I'm trying to decide from the following three brushes -
Savile Row 3824
Kent BLK4
Rooney 3/1
I'm currently using a brush from C&E, and looking to upgrade. I use both soaps and creams, usually C&E soaps and Proraso Cream. Any advice on how these three compare directly would be greatly appreciated. Any other recommendations would be great as well.

First, a question:
What aspects of your C&E do you like, and which aspects are you looking to change?
Those are 3 very different brushes. Regards.

Basically, I'm looking for something simple and durable, that is a bit softer than my C&E, but isn't floppy.
To be honest I'm not too picky. I really like the look of the Kent brush, and I want a brush that isn't too expensive, but I will pay for quality as it will be my only brush.
I lather on my face in a circular motion, if that matters.
I'm completely new to this stuff. I've used a shave brush for years mind you, but I had no idea the variety...

I think the kent will be a bit more flexible than it sounds like you want. If you want something a bit softer in the tips, but with good density, I think the next round of B&B Essential brushes may be your best bet.

Thanks man, I might just wait for the next run of B&B brushes.

And I really hate to say that, since I'm personally one who hates to wait. But from your statement above, I really do think so.
Best of luck with the wait!

I can only comment on the Rooney 3/1. It is a great soap brush and have been told it is excellent for creams as well. It's firm enough to hold form while lathering, but feels nice and soft on the face with just a hint of scatchiness for exfoliation. I truly love this brush. Cost about $80. If you find you cannot wait this might be the brush for you.

If you decide not to wait for the Essential, then I suggest the Rooney 3/1.

I can comment on the Kent BLK4 and the 3824, as I've had both, and just had my first shave with a new 3824. The Kent is a better looking brush, but that means nothing as far as shaving goes. The 3824 wins hands down. To me, the kent was just too, and I hate to use this word, floppy. While some get good results using it on soap, it was a little too floppy for my tastes.
The 3824 rocked the tabac tonight, and I'm betting it'll be an awesome brush on my TOBS Rose. I was looking for a good all around brush, one that would be equally adept at soaps and creams, I think the 3824 fits that bill perfectly.
I've never used the particular Rooney you are asking about, but I love my Rooney Heritage Stubby 2. Strictly a soap kind of brush though. I Don't think you can beat the quality of a Rooney. Good luck.
