Greetings all, I’ve been looking and lurking for a few days and have learned a lot. B&B is a terrific resource.

I’m old enough to remember my dad excitedly buying the first stainless Wilkinson Sword blades in the mid 1950s. He would brag about getting a week’s shaves with one blade. I was in my early teens at the time and was naturally introduced to wet shaving. DE and canned foam. The old man switched to electric (I think it was a rechargeable Remington) and I did likewise. Ten or so years ago my Norelco bit the dust and I purchased whatever multi-bladed POS Gillette was hyping at the time. Of late I’ve been using a M3. I even got suckered into purchasing the battery powered version… The battery actually out-lasted the razor!

Anyway a few weeks ago, realizing I was racking my last M3 cartridge, I took the plunge and purchased a Merkur Futur set that included the Merkur brush and stand, some Feather blades and some Classic Shaving branded soap. Today was my second using the new gear and I’m pretty happy! NO BLOOD as of yet and I’m already getting a superior shave than the M3 and canned gunk provided.

I’m a head shaver so I also purchased a Dovo head / leg razor. I have managed to draw a little blood with that.. Go figure.. Damn cartridge razors!!

I’ve got a lot to learn but I’m sure this is the place to get expert advice when I need it.

Curious, what cartridge are you using in the DOVO? I use the headblade myself and at first with the Atra II Plus cartridges it came with my head was a big lump of sausage.. :lol: Constantly nicking, irritating, etc... I was about ready to call it quits on the headblade and throw it away. Then I switched to the Sensor adaptor (I think the DOVO uses the same Merkur adaptors as the headblade). Once I chucked up a SensorExcel blade in it I was loving life. Not a single nick, it's smooth as can be, I can shave in 1/3rd the time it was taking me with the Atra style blade, irritation is nil, etc... The ONLY bad thing about the Sensor blades is that right around the crown of my head the blade doesn't have QUITE enough pivot to make the curve, so I have to lift the back "support" off my scalp a bit. With the Atra blades this would have been a nightmare resulting in a large slab of flesh immediately falling to the floor. :blink: but with the Sensor blades it's no problem at all. In fact, up around my ears I often hold it in a pinch grip and trim around them (ears) without ever letting the base touch anything. :thumbup1:

I'm kind of disenchanted with the Dovo! I'm using the Merkur cartridges which I believe are an Atra look alike. I find I have to be very careful not to nick myself. It's also impossible to get close enough to my ears not to require a touch-up with another tool. I'm having great success using a Gillette adjustable set on 3 with a Feather blade. NO nicks, cuts and a much better shave than I was getting with my M3. I used the M3 in the shower, the Gillette I'm using at the sink using whatever soap/cream I'm using on my face. If my head were given a choice it would Proraso (green tube) every day! Good luck!
