Back in my drinking days I used to brew my own beer, (half barrel sized batches). Anyway, among homebrewing circles there is a mantra of sorts that goes like this, "Relax...Don't worry...Have a homebrew." Or if a batch didn't turn out right someone might add, "It's just beer. Make another batch."
So anyway, I see most of the guys who have been around a while have this kind of attitude about shaving. This is probably the most important part for newbies. Relax...Take it easy...Enjoy the lather. Until you develop your technique, allow plenty of time to get the job done without getting uptight. And if it doesn't turn out just right, relax...it's just shaving, you'll grow more whiskers tomorrow.
Over the years when I have been extremely tapped for time and completely exhausted I would use an electric rotary shaver. It was never relaxing, especially when driving.
This is why I usually shave at night, it is sooo relaxing. In fact as soon as I log off I will try to get upstairs before MBW gets home and spend some time enjoying the lather. It's cheaper than a massage and healthier than drinking.
