View Full Version : Use AV, Nix to Cologne?

I like my Aqua Velva and Clubman, but I also like my Penhaligons and Creed. So question: does AV and other aftershaves "clash" against the colognes I enjoy so much? I've been using scentless witch hazel and others that are mild instead of the AV I love so much out of concern. I miss the AV cooling and moisturizing feel, but don't want to step on my cologne.

i think it depends on the aftershave. If I use Musgo real aftershave I wouldn't use a cologne (at least not one that hasn't been carefully chosen to compliment the musgo scent). I might not use one with clubman, either, as I find that one stays around a bit.
Speick, on the other hand, fades quickly and doesn't clah...so I use em both (if I'm using cologne at all that day).

If you use the AV early enough to give it time to fade away, it shouldn't clash with your cologne/edt.
There's a decent discussion of this topic underway in the Colognes forum ...
Ooops, you know that.:blushing:

It depends on your body chemistry and on the products in question.
I find that Aqua Velva fades on me after a little while, so if I were to wear a cologne it would probably not clash with it.
I do sometimes wear colognes because I have a bunch of them sitting around. But my new philosophy is to not buy them or use them. Instead, I purchase aftershave versions of my favorite scents and wear them instead. I find that you can sort of "justify" wearing an aftershave. But wearing cologne is just because you want to smell a certain way. And with scents being frowned upon in so many workplaces... this is a problem!
So I just wear aftershaves. C'mon! They can't tell you not to wear an aftershave!
I have Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet in an alcohol based aftershave and I love it. I also have aftershave versions of Knize Ten and Clannel Pour Mousiuer. I love them all. And of course I have Aqua Velva, which is sometimes the only scent that I wear other than deoderant.
