I love the scent and the lather from the Dragon's Blood. It smells like incense and the Adidas a/s line is IMHO, one of the best kept secrets of shaving.

Nice shave. really enjoy using the Super Speed.
I tried the Trumper's Skin Food as a "preshave" for the 1st time today.
I think it may have helped a bit with the 1st pass but I don't know if I'll use it again.
Purchased the Tommy Bahama at Marshalls over the weekend....not too bad but probably better in colder weather...anyone else use this fragrance?

Have a good Monday.

SR-204 brush
Nancy Boy SC + QED Tangerine & Spearmint soap
Thayer's Lavender WH
Proraso pre/post

Another failed experiment at lather, but a pretty good experiment at scent combinations. When I couldn't get the Nancy Boy to lather, I just swirled in some QED soap and got pretty good results. I could tell that it was dragging the QED down a bit, but the scent was still original and fairly pleasant.

As for the lather - I swear, I'm starting to think it's my brush. I bought my Savile Row SR-204 a bit under a year ago, and I didn't start using it heavily until a few months ago when I started wetshaving daily. It's lost a lot of bristles over this time. A brush shouldn't lose this much hair, should it? Rogaine for Badgers, anyone?

I've tried different temperatures of water, different lathering dishes/bowls/scuttles, different swirling techniques, every possible ratio of cream to water (drop by drop), and eight different creams (from NB, Taylor's, Musgo, T&H, and AOS). Nothing gets a good lather like I see in all the pictures and videos here. Soap just works for me. Granted, it's QED, so it's good stuff, but it still feels like I'm missing the "shaving cream wagon."

Suzuki
08-30-2006, 12:29 PM
No - your brush shouldn't lose many hairs after the first few uses.

I would speak to Charles at QED about this.

Joe, isn't Olivia's stuff great? Don't those soaps and creams treat the skin like gold? I swear, when you use them, your skin feels like it has a new lease on life!

Jeff

Its incredible! My skin has been very clear lately (using ARKO, QED soaps), and I must say the Olivia is a very high quality product as well and yes very high scores in the skin treatment column.

btw - thanks for the welcome!

How old is that tub of Violet? Maybe it is the lighting, but the lettering on your tub appears a lot more blue than the tub that I have.

My tub is about 2 years old. It still has over 50% left. My rotation of creams and soaps moves slowly.

How are you getting on with the Wilkinson Sword razor? I am discovering that it is picky about the blades you use.

I saw your thread on SMF the Wilkinson blade doesn't work well in the Wilkinson razor, how ironic. Until I saw that thread I was going to order one of the pillar placks of Wilkinson blades, so thanks for taking the time to test them out.
At the moment I am getting on very well with the Sticky, the Feather blade seems to be a good choice for me in this particular razor. The angle and the exposure demand that you pay careful attention when using a Feather, but that only encourages you to really focus on your technique which is a good thing

A shave for the record book, closer and more comfortable than I ever though possible. After doing some facial re-thinking yesterday, I altered my direction for the 1st and 2nd reduction passes (realized that shaving north/south is really like an oblique pass on my face. So I shaved east/west west/east instead, and saved north/south for the second pass. Against the grain pass went west/east east/west rather than south/north as usual. By that time I got to the against the grain pass, it was like satin (rather than gravel, as usual). Wow!

Orest, it's without any exaggeration, one of the nicest-smelling, richest, creamiest-lathering soaps I ever used. It's so soothing to sensitive skin, and provides excellent moisturization. I have a brutal beard, but when I shave with Gold-Dachs, even a one pass shave like I did this morning is more than sufficient to clean me up real good. I could feel my stubble just starting to grow back, and I shaved at 7:00 this morning. The problem is, it's not a cheap brand, and it's becoming very rare, so it's a soap that I use just occasionally, when I want to give myself a treat.

Great pic Richard :thumbup1:

Question...do you take the blade out of Feather after every use?

Thanks for the encouragement.

No, I use an Injector blade which is shorter than a standard Feather AC blade. I had a Feather AC RG a while ago and I tried it with the ProGuard blades and decided it wasn't for me. Then Andy came along on SMF and announced how he has been getting great shaves using an Injector blade in the Feather AC. Sharp but very forgiving unlike Pro and SuperPro blades. This sounded like just the ticket, so I reinvested in a Feather AC DX (I sold my original RG to Art!). I love this combo, very smooth, easy to learn, and you have to do something really goofy to cut yourself. Within 3 shaves I was going against the grain and getting BBS shaves. I get a nick here and there from time to time, but nothing bad. The only "problem" is that the Injector blade is shorter and you have to centre it in the Feather's grip because it is semi-circle on the inside. This leaves the blade about 4mm from the end, but it doesn't really matter that much.

AACJ

Richard,

Since you've had both the RG and the DX, did you notice any discernable difference in the shave quality of these razors? What blades are you using now other than the Injector blades?

My RG is on loan to a guy at work who wanted to try straights after I got him to switch to a DE, brush and nice shave cream. But I can't wait till I get it back!!

First day of the weekend I wanted to give myself a big treat. Took a long hot shower during which my shaving bowl, brush soak can (with brush in it) and a hot towel were heated up in my sink full of very hot water. Geo F. Trumper's Violet lathers great and its scent is fabulous! Did a quick towel technique for only half a minute seen the fact that my face was still hot and wet from the shower.

Trumper's Violet cream has great lubrication and my 3 pass shave gave me a very enjoyable result! Not perfectly BBS but a very light amount of stubble. Still working on the perfect technique so I'm not overdoing it.

Tell you the truth, no, not really. Although I never got up close and personal as much with the RG as I do now with my DX. The stainless steel has a different feel and sometimes I grip the blade where it says Artist Club (sorry, I don't know the proper name of that area) and I suppose the fine lettering does offer more grip. I think the DX offers more of that "cold steel" feel on your face.

As far as looks, no contest, the stainless steel DX is a beauty. That alone give you a better shave, no? I was either going to get the Teak handled RG or the poly handled DX. I'm glad I made the choice I did to spend the extra $50. I plan to keep this one for a long time :) and the poly handle can take it. I couldn't afford to spring for the Teak DX.

Sell that RG to your friend, and get the DX. If you love the Feather that much, treat yourself. Christmas is around the corner, you know...

I have only used the Injector blades so far. I did buy a pack of Pro blades with the razor but I haven't used any. Tell you the truth, I am a little afraid. I'm still perfecting my technique, and honestly, the Injector blades are giving me a perfect shave at the moment. If it ain't broke don't fix it right? Nothing gets as close as the Feather going against the grain. If I shave later in the day (as I usually do), I wake up the next morning still smooth.

Richard, thanks for the info...this is quite interesting. I just got a Feather RG with all the different blades to try out. I am looking forward to my first shave with a straight, but I decided not to give a "go" today as I am going to a bar to watch NotreDame game tonight. Sticking with the Feather DE for one more day, as a safe bet.

I am wondering, however, if instead of starting with feather pro blades in my RG, if I should use one of my Shick Injectors? It seems like that'll give me a chance to get acquainted with the RG before using a more aggressive blade.

Anyhow, today's shave:

SR 3124 Silvertip
Feather Safety Razor
Feather Blade
ARKO Berber Tras Sabunu (soap stick)
ITALIAN FLOID AS Splash (thank you Tom :badger: )

Starting with the Injector blade is good advice.

Brian

That is actually bath soap. But Mitchells do make Kent's shave soap. I was told the bath soap smells the same as Mitchells' shave soap, but unfortunately does not smell the same as Kent. I love Kent shave soap BTW and the way it is scented, it is a wonderful delicate scent.

Nancy Boy ASB :frown:

(Just imagine a wonderful picture here, like the above posts...)

I was quite impressed with the Honeybee products I just received. The shaving soap was quite effective - good lather and great protection. I'm not sure I'd get the CoolWater scent again, but it is pleasant, subdued. The bar soap was quite nice - the scent was also subdued, but luscious, and the soap was smooth and moisturizing.

The shampoo and conditioner deserve their own paragraph. If you like fruity, creamy scents, these are to die for. The scents lasted longer than other shampoos and conditioners I've used. They're both very effective, as well - my hair was very soft and clean afterwards. From an efficacy standpoint, after my first use, I think they worked just as well as Nancy Boy products.

I gave the Nancy Boy ASB a :frown: because I've used it a handful of times now and just don't understand it. It's called "Cooling Aftershave Gel," but it doesn't cool and doesn't do much after a shave. It doesn't leave me feeling moisturized or refreshed like an ASB should.

Had a late shave today because SWMBO and I were meeting friends for dinner. Maybe it was luck, maybe the stars were in alignment, or maybe it was my more diligent whipping of the lather in the bowl before applying - but I got a FANTASTIC shave. No irritation what so ever. Just BBS cheeks and neck. Even the hollows of my neck on either side of my adams apple that are so tricky to get smooth came clean.

Don't you just love it when it all comes together!
