Ok..........this is getting out of hand, but not that I am complaining about it, and NO, I a dont work for Ogellala. BUT, I have been wearing this stuff quite a lot lately and everywhere I go I get lots of ladies to blush and tell me how good I smell. Theres this one gal who works at the BP where I get fuel and every other day I go in there to pay and shes beet red and always has to tell me that I smell SO good, (Nice looking girl, not my type, but nice looking nontheless). Even my bud came over, used my bathroom and came out and told me that my bathroom smelled good and asked what it was (I must have just applied some before the company came over). Then this girl I met out last weekend told me I smelled so good, almost like cloves, and continued to say that "if I was a ham, she'd eat me up"! There have been too many more to list, but if you have a chance, order some of this Bay Rum from Ogellala. Being recently divorced, this is a Godscend for me!!! Ogellala BAY RUM is liquid love!!!!

Hey - I gotta agree on this. Its the only fragrance I regularly get comments on! Took a while for me to like the scent but now I am hooked. Sandalwood and Lime-Peppercorn are great.

Also a plug for John at Ogalalla, who is fantastic! I wish that everyone gave customer service using his example! Even to us Brits!!

Got my 5x50ml 'samples' today (via ebay) so next week is going to be Bay Rum week for me, I think.

I've got the Bay Rum Aftershave and Cologne on now and they smell great.

How is the Special Reserve different from the regular Bay Rum? I placed an order with Ogallala and requested some Special Reserve as a sample but am not quite sure what to expect. I'll also be receiving samples of the Limes & Peppercorn and Sandalwood. Can't wait!

New, unopened. 8 fl. oz cobalt blue bottle of Genuine Ogallala Bay Rum Cologne. THIS IS THE DOUBLE STRENGTH "SPECIAL RESERVE" FORMULA! Old-time looking bottle and label. The bottle itself would make a great bathroom decoration...but you'll definately want to use the product too! Genuine Ogallala Bay Rum products have a bold, refreshing fragrance...like you remember from years ago in the barber shop! Quite simply, this stuff smells great! It has much more fragrance than most...it smells like Bay Rum used to. The cologne is our premium product AND THIS IS THE DOUBLE STRENGTH VERSION - "SPECIAL RESERVE".

I ordered a bottle of the bay rum after shave and cologne, total price $42 for both, free shipping from www.goodatbeingagirl.com They have a full range of Ogallalla products, including their shaving soap, but I'm already overstocked on soaps. OK--so I'm overstocked on everything else too, but I just had to have some of this stuff! :001_rolle

You can get a 2 ounce sample of Ogallala Bay Rum for $5.00 (includes shipping) here:

I just got some. It smells great, but it also smells potent, and I've not yet tried it. I work in a cubicle, so I need to make sure I don't over do it on colognes.

just got a bit of an education. Went right to Ogallala's site, and discovered that their produc ts are less than half the price of the items offered at goodat beingagirl.com. In addition, they offer a number of unbeatable specials, including an order of their bay rum for only one cent. Yes--they're not kidding. that's the price. Then went back to the other site--guess what--they don't do cancellations. Oh well, I went ahead and placed an order with ogallala anyway, and so now I'll have a few extra things coming in. my advice: avoid good at being a girl.com--they are overpriced by a long shot!

2 oz for a sample? You see 1.7 oz EDT bottles in stores for $40.00 all the time... That's a very generous sample... I just purchased my $.01/$5.00 "sample". Never tried a bay rum cologne or aftershave before, so it will be a new experience.

OK, and today I got my response. It went like this: "We order from... it's drop shipped, and we have our expenses." (like hell they do! They don't even do the packaging.) It's fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on you. My advice, these guys (gals, actually,) are ripoff artists, definitely to be avoided, charging more than twice the price you would pay if you bought it directly from the source.
Ah yes, the source. So I spent a bit of time today talking with John Marquis, the owner, inventor and producer of Ogallala Bay Rum and many other fine products. Not to put too fine a point on it, but John is simply one of the most decent fine and ethical people I've ever had the pleasure of speaking to. He liked the idea of Bay Rum, but couldn't find one that had that special zing that he felt bay rum should have, so he went through many, many versions of his witches brew before he finally came up with Ogallala Bay Rum. He markets it at a reasonable price, deals fair and square, and his product will appear in the next Duluth Trading Company catalog, giving it the national exposure it deserves.
John makes several fine products in various scents, and while scents are so individual, based upon body chemistry, personal preferences, etc., there's bound to be one or more in the Ogallala line that you will enjoy.
My advice: go to John's site: www.ogallalabayrum.com He's got some great specials for first time buyers, and what's more, you will be buying a quality product from an honest businessman who's just one heck of a nice guy.
my 2c worth.

hmm..... Completely different responses for me. I have never been told I smelled like a ham, just the clove scent that is used to season the ham as the clove is very noticable in Ogallala Bay Rum.

I just today ordered another "Special Reserve" bottle of their Bay Rum and Im only half way through the one I have. Ive gotten too many great responses while wearing it to not have an extra bottle on hand! And this Bay Rum lasts a long time!

Having never used Bay Rum, is the Ogalla brand typical of this fragrance or is it different from say, Pinaud?

I just rec'd my sample bottle and WOW--this is some potent stuff. Just wondering if I should do a "shoot-out" between different brands or if they are relatively the same.

Just received my sample pack! John is a very generous man, I received all 5 shaving soap samples (Bay Rum, Sandalwood, Limes & Peppercorn, Lemongrass, Sage & Cedar), the 2oz bottle of $0.01 Bay Rum Cologne, as well as 1oz samples of Bay Rum & Sandalwood and Limes & Peppercorn.

Quite honestly, I am still undecided on the classic Bay Rum. Despite what some members have mentioned my nose smells it as VERY clovey, it's definitely the dominant note. I'll have to give it some more time. However, both the Sandalwood and Limes/Peppercorn are fantastic! The Sandalwood is a favorite, much sweeter than you'd expect from a more "natural" smelling sandalwood but it is terrific nonetheless. I hardly even detect Bay Rum in the Limes & Peppercorn, it's VERY limey with a hint of spice from the pepper.

ALL of the soaps smell outstanding. The Bay Rum one is more subdued and is much more acceptable to my nose. Bay Rum & Sandalwood, as with the cologne, a favorite. Lemongrass is awesome, along with the Limes & Peppercorn. The Sage & Cedar may become a favorite as well, Christmas in July! Very woody and balsamic, wonderful!

If you're reading this John thank you very much! I may not be rebuying the original Bay Rum but you've got me hooked on the Sandalwood, along with the Limes & Peppercorn! I'll be sure to review them as I use them and send others your way. I am continually amazed every time I order something from a B&B recommended vendor. Gives me more faith in humanity

Got my Ogallala order today, and even though it's not Saturday night, I splashed on some of the Bay Rum Cologne. Yes, the clove is very noticeable, but overall I'd say it's fantastic. Far and away the best Bay Rum I've ever tried.
I'll be doing tests on all his scents and I'll let you know how it plays out.

Ive sprayed it but prefer to splash this one! Spray it many times, on chest, back, neck etc........ Shake it up REAL good! Like for atleast 20 seconds. You'll think it has worn off but others will still pick up the scent. Did you get the Special Reserve? I always get SO many great responses when wearing it!

I got the Ogallala Bay Rum bath soap, shaving soap, aftershave, and cologne. My bathroom smells so good (from just the bath soap being exposed init). Ladies, and my male friends always comment on how good my bathroom smells!

I have samples of both, but I'm using the regular one. I'm not so sure it hasn't worn off. I applied some to my chest, and when I was in a restroom I stuck my nose in my shirt and took a good whiff. I didn't smell anything.

Where it says 'apply generously' they aren't kidding. It seems like you don't need much because it is so dang strong right out of the bottle, but a couple little sprinkles won't do it for long - go ahead and fill your palm up as if it were aftershave splash and rub a bunch of it into your chest and neck, then put your shirt on right away to 'trap it'. And as someone else said, SHAKE WELL. The oils seperate very easily in this stuff. I put mine in a clear pump bottle and you can see the oil at the bottom of the bottle.

When I was researching how to make perfumes, it said to add glycerin to help retain aroma longer. I don't know how well it works, but I added it to my one cologne (or toilet water... not sure of the percentage I used), and it lasted from 7:30am yesterday to when I went to bad around 11:00. Wasn't overpowering, either. Now, I didn't try it without the glycerin (or maybe I did, and it didn't last long, I forget....), so I'm not sure how much a part the glycerin played.

But it might be worth trying: Add some glycerin to your Ogallala Special Reserve, and see if it helps.

I ordered a 1 cent sample the other week. I was just wondering whether any Canadians have ordered from here. After placing my order I read a few things elsewhere about difficulty getting aftershaves into Canada due to Customs restrictions. I had mentioned to John at Ogallala that I was in Canada and it didn't seem to raise any eyebrows.

Anyway, it's only $5.00 but now I'm worried i might not get it. I was excited to try it out.

Well, I got my sample yesterday so clearly there is no issue with shipping to Canada. This is some strong stuff and I am kind of torn on it right now. I like the smell of cloves but my wife is not keen. As some have said this stuff is extremely strong smelling out of the bottle. The mrs did not like it so I didn't wear it this morning for our car ride in. I brought the bottle and put some on when I got to work! i think I like it but we'll see if the quality controller comes around. The strength definitely fades once it's on.

I'd really like to try the limes and sandalwood varieties. Do they temper the overall scent or is it the same just with a hint of lime/sandalwood?

Also wanted to note that John is very quick at responding to emails and seems to value his customers...even when they're only paying 1cent!

The lime overpowers the bay rum as does the sandlewood. The limes and peppercorns does not last on me but the sandlewood lasts pretty long. YMMV

I still consider the "Special Reserve" bay rum the best. It may seem quite clovey out of the bottle and for about 5-10 mins after applying it....but it does tone down to a clean fresh bay rum scent, so I have been told by others!

Yeah, that's the only shipping method they offer. It's 7.95 regardless of what you order(with the exception of only ordering the .01 cologne) It's priority mail, and a lot of places charge $10..

Last month I mailed a 2.5 lbs package from here to Chicago, and it was $10 and some change for the actual cost of priority mail.
