View Full Version : Come on, admit it, do you use a brush-less cream once in a while?

Well I'm going to give these brush-less creams a try. It seems all brush-less creams and soaps are out of favor here at B&B, but I'll try anything new. I've already used the Aveeno and must admit its pretty darn good for a cream out of a can. It goes on a bit heavy, but with a small amount water I can get it just right, smells nice too. The soy in it provides good mosterization and if I use CAR's A/S balm afterwards my face seems too greasy, not a good combo so far. I'm not great at reviews but I think in a few weeks I can give one on the King Of Shaves products. Keep in mind I'm not a DE or Injector user so you may not find any benefit from it.

I have not used anything but creams that come in a tub (either T&H or Taylors) since I got into the whole DE thing.
I might try soaps in the future.
I don't rule out brushless creams, as they might be just the thing to take traveling. I'm sure there are a few good ones out there.

I'll admit it. I use Tom's of Maine which is brushless, but then I whip it up with a brush. So it is no longer really brushless.

Anyone here ever used Dr. Sheffields? I used to use it before getting some good creams. I always liked it because of the lanolin in it. It feels really, really confortable. I still have it and, like I said earlier, will probably use it when traveling. It comes in a tube and is meant to be used brushless.

I occasionally use a brushless cream (like KMF) but I always use a brush. I have used a DE for about 25 years but until I ran across the shaving forums I got crappy shaves the whole time. IMO a shaving brush has made all the difference and I refuse to give it up - even once.
My dad still uses the canned stuff when he's "in a hurry". I've never been in such a hurry that I'd go back to it. What could be so important in those extra few minutes that I've come to enjoy?
Anyway... there you have it. My two cents.
nope. noy any more. I used KOS once for several days. For me--it compares favorable to snot but that's about the best I can say about it.

No brushless creams here, no plans on any either. Without the brush I'd be missing out on a big part of what makes this worthwhile.

I admit using brushless canned gels regularly ; I get excellent shaves ; of course, YMMV

Ok, I admit, I do. It seems very unpopular, and clearly makes me not one of the cool kids, but I do now and then. Yes, the brush is part of the fun. Yes, this new way of shaving is really made by the brush. But, well, I don't have the luxury of never having to shave in a relative hurry. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
So, when this does happen, I always use Cremo-Cream. Honestly, it shaves about as well brushless as with a brush, which is better than a number of products I've tried, and no worse than the rest. Good stuff, and a good brushless shave. Only issue is you have to use a full shaves worth for each pass brushless.
I have Musgo as well, which is said to shave very well brushless, but I have not tried it yet.
Btw, I never tried Aveeno, but for canned gel, I found Nivea Sensitive to be very good. Heck, it was almost as good a shave as a fair brushed product.

I have the Palmolive brushless(green tube) and I was using it- but whipping it in the mug. Once I realized what was going on, I went to the red tube. i have not used the brushless since.

Yup, Nivea Sens. and Mild are really nice goos
I've got all that are shown in the pic above and I've always had really good results from the KoS stuff. Sometimes it's a nice change of pace to use a brushless.

Sure, I've used brushless creams. Prep is pretty good when used brushless, and so is Musgo Real (although I prefer to lather that one). My favorite cream actually intended for brushless use is Palmolive brushless (in U.S. green and white tube, vice the lather version in red and white...). Just smear a thin layer on your beard (after washing your face, etc.) and start shaving. I've always had good results with it. Blows Edge, KOS, etc. out of the water IMHO....
BTW, I've never considered Toms of Maine or KissMyFace creams to be "brushless" so much as their lathering instructions assume one does not possess a brush and are geared as such....they lather quite well, and match some of the best creams out there IMHO.

Brushless cream? How about a gel? Appearances for Men Cleanse 'N Shave gel. (http://www.appearancesformen.com/) The slickest stuff you will ever find! Look under "Face Tools".

I have used Proraso brushless with good results, the Proraso foam in a can is also better than other foams I've tried (still not great with a DE) and the Neutrogena.
I lied a bit. It's been several months since I used brushless but I do keep in my cabinet J/A/S/O/N shaving lotion--it's not bad and if I were to return of desire a brushless this would be my choice.

These seldom get used, but are fun occassionally.

Every once in a while, I use the last Nivea foam I bought before switching to straight shaving, only to conclude that I do prefer my Taylor cream. But I’m currently trying different brushless creams for use when travelling.

Ditto.
I've tried a lot of the canned stuff, but my favorite for about a year before I got addicted to the brush was Aveeno. They (actually it is Johnson & Johnson) make some really gentle products and I had my shave-irritation problem pretty much solved with their canned gel. Before that, I have used Nivea, Barbasol, Gillette, Edge, and one other I am not remembering. But I liked Aveeno the best.
I've used Aveeno brushless, but don't anymore. Same with Body Shop, KOS and a few others--better than canned goo, but that's about it.
I've also used NancyBoy, Toms of Maine and a few others that are not strictly brush products--but, IMO, work much better when used with a brush.

I haven't used a brushless cream in about a year, which coincides with the time I started using a DE. Brushless creams take away alot of the fun!

I stay away with anything containing soy...that has been manipulated like Soy beans are ok, but soy milk id not use it has some sort of female hormones which makes men grow breasts.
if you start seeing that you start to develop breasts stop using the soy in a can cream. :001_tt2:
free tip from a concerned spartan.
I have a can of NIVEA Shave foam. standing as NEW in the corner since I started DE wetshaving.

However, I do have NB and Musgo Real... both of which CAN be used brushless if you so choose.

If travelling means you want to carry less shave gear around, I have found Somersets Shaving Oil to be very effective, as well as quick and easy to use. It also comes in a tiny little bottle which lasts for yonks and has a nice mild cinnamon scent.

I can honestly say I haven't gone back to brushless in quite a while; if nothing else, it just doesn't protect my skin as well from razor burn.

Honestly, I haven't use a brushless cream in probably.......a decade. Don't miss it in the least. It only takes about 30 seconds to whip up a good brush lather with decent soap or cream. If I'm ever so late that 30 seconds makes the difference, I'd rather just skip the shave.

I used to swear by the Edge unscented, it is the only one with sunflower oil in it, if that was it or not I don't know, but man that is some slick stuff. Not that I would ever use or anything. I wanna try the Prorasso in a can someday.

If you must use brushless cream, use something like Kiss my Face cool mint or Key Lime. I haven't used that stuff since the old (i.e. M3) days, but I used to get a lot of pleasure out of it. Now, I get pleasure out of using brushes, so this stuff out out.

You know you can use the KMF stuff with a brush, right? It whips up fantastically is very slick. I like to mix it as well with Tom's of Maine for extra minty-ness. :w00t:

Really! Why did I never think of that. Perhaps because, when I applied it with my hand, it seemed like the anti-lather. But these are slick and lovely smelling creams, perhaps I'll pick some up next time I see it! You see, I'm going through a tube phase now...

Hey everyone....first post..
I've actually used the Edge 'Active Care' Non-foaming 'cream' on and off for the past few months (not since I started doing things the right way a few weeks ago). I am really rather impressed by the stuff. Sacreligious, I know. But it actually does a pretty good job of protecting the skin...though mostly because the stuff clogs the razor (mine's a multiblade, for now) so much that it can't really get to the skin well enough to cause irritation...
Since then, it's been Proraso all the way. Never going back....

Actually, even the Scented Edge gels have sunflower oil
KMF sucks brushless, but is great with a brush
The Edge cream in a tube is nice too

I used the Nivea gel before I tried the DE thing but I have not bought a can since. I won the Maleface cream in the B&B give away contest. I threw it in the cabinet and thought I would not use it. However, I got called in to work early two times this week and was in a rush to get out the door. I grabbed the Maleface and M3 (didn't have time for anything else) and was suprised. Worked very well for me. It will have a place when I dont have time for a proper shave.

I use the NB brushless. It works pretty well. I have also tried Lush Razorantium (which absolutely sucks), edge, neutrogena, clearasil, and barbasol. NB is the clear favorite when it comes to brushless shaving. The rest foam or otherwise were pretty bad.

Hi,
I use Lush cream (Razorantum) from time to time and I must say that's a really good product (except for the price)
I read some really bad comments on it but It's because some people used it with a brush which is not the good way at all!
If you want to have a really quick shave that's for you guys!
I didn't tried the prince one (the girl in the shop told me it's pretty similar)
The only bad thing about this cream is that you have to rinse the blade all the time cause It's a really sticky cream.

Nope, I don't even own any at the moment. I'll admit to not using a brush all the time. The Body Shop Shave Cream works well with just a finger-tip application.
What I will admit to is using a M3 or Sensor when I'm in a rush, and don't have time for a proper prep. I find in near impossible to cut yourself with an M3, and when I'm in a rush, that's what counts most to me.

I use a brushless cream everyday actually. After I get out of the shower I put on Arbonne's shave cream (which doesn't lather) and I let it sit while I get hot water and lather up the cream/soap of the day. Then I just brush over it. It's given me awesome protection/moisture and still get the glide similar to an oil.
I love it!

When in the mood for a heady dose of juniper, I use a pre-shave oil, followed by a layer of L'Occitane CADE Shaving Cream on top. I get great results with that combination. I have no luck producing a lather with L'Occitane, so I consider it a brushless cream.

In addition to my brush creams, I really enjoy a couple of brushless ones: Nancy Boy and Zirh. As far as gels go, I prefer Sharps gels (both the "real" Sharps and the clear minty Target one) over KoS.
I've gotta try Tom's of Maine's cream since so many of you guys like it. I like their deoderants and toothpastes quite a bit.
